Ok well, They ARE going to come out in 2011, theres no doubt about it, and I think they will be a much better race. Hopefully we see some long lasting players, I for one will be.
Because they have abolished a lot of their stuff, I think they will have left behind the core hardcore units, and seeing they will probably have a storm raven too, they will be the non mech version of IG cross with space marines!

Vrs hordes of Orks- No they will not.
Vrs any other army in power armor- Absolutely.
The Grey Knights are going to be an elite army as they always were. The transport issue will be fixed and depending on how you equip them they will finally have an invulnerable save.

I see them not being competitive. Deamonhunters are meant to hunt Deamons, not the filthy space mushrooms.

I think they'll be good. When you hear rumors of flame storm cannons that ignore invulnerable saves etc it gets you thinking in the omg direction..... I hope they dont rely too much on storm ravens those things are way overblown in the BA codex.

I think that Grey Knights are going to be SPASS MAHREENized, complete with gimmicky/overpowered rules and equipment with a ton of special characters, plus the Inquisition parts of the codex will trimmed down to near non existence

this is actually out of FW rules sets as they make a GK LRRedeemer.
Codex: Grey Knights, as this one will be known, will likely be a very well written and balanced codex(compared to BA and SW) my only hope is that the fluff doesn't get butcherd.
the Inquisition will be cut out to be put in its own codex or hammered into the SoB codex OR squatted entirely OR put in the next Guard codex as an elite choice.
Things GK will be sure to get
Rhinos
Drop pods
3++ Stormshields
LRRedeemers
psychic Dreadnoughts
overall point adjustments and statline alterations
things they may get
Jetbikes
Stormravens
Invuln saves(iffy)
all saves are rerollable(iffy)

Ive noted quite a few people who dont seem to take the slightest interest in this topic, and I ask why view it in the first place?
There have been rumours from people who have been such reliable sources in the past that it would be downright stupidity to dismiss their claims, such as harry and others I dont have the adequate memory to mention.
They have prooven themselves reliable by giving information on previous codexes with unerring accuracy. I for one believe what comes from them, and anyone else who is interested (and therefore clicked on this thread) has probably seen them also. /rant.
The rumour about GK in PA all having rending but their sarges not having power weapons makes fluff sense, they are not yet psychic enough for their NFW to be be power weapons, but when they really focus and concentrate they act like one.
GKTs having true grit like Gk in PA do is also another rumour worth believing, as is the redeemer ignoring invulners and the storm raven.
I also think because of the massive spam of storm bolters they have (remember a storm bolter = rapid fire bolter + assault) will allow them to be competitive against stuff like ork hoardes. Name one time when an ork hoard can stand up to being rapid fired then assaulted by marines who already have an extra attack?
Not to mention the potential deathstar unit of GKTs with NFW/SS. Its like terminators with relic blades!

Actually GKs have fluff eveidence that they use Jetbikes.
the Fluff is that all jetbikes were commandeered by the inquisition and the Custodes for their use.
this is why there are no more jetbikes in the impierium(well, maybe they missed 1)

Actually, I read excerpts from a battle report from Gencon where the new GK's fought Orks. In 2000 points the GK side had 30-40 total models, and won. I have a suspicion that, like all of the newer codexes, they will be plenty tough.

It all depends really. We all know daemon hunters will eat any chaos daemon player alive that's a given. They will surely do it again with a new codex.
Now being competitive with other armies, It's all about how you want to play. Since we have no clue on what they might bring to them. Only time will tell.

It's way too early to call, but I hope they'll be competative. A tough codex is a win for everyone, including GW. A soft codex will hurt GW (low sales) and rarely be seen on the table.

Grey knights need only 2 things to be good as is.
Transport options and the ability to get decent Anti-tank in the basic squads.
Maybe if they had a Cheap Psychic power that was essentially a Melta gun that all PAGK squads could use then that would be that.
Rhinos are a given as well as a LR transport option for the Terminators.

I play GKs now...and competatively at that...PAGK mind you.
It just takes a lot more thinking.
The Green Tide...faced it...they can't handle the stormbolters that back away until the last moment...before the NFW butchers them.
GKs need one of two things. Increased survivability or Ranged AT.
I don't see much Ranged AT coming their way...it's not how they function.
That being said the rumor thus far demand one or multiple things like.
Stormravens
Increased Toughness
Artificer Armor
Rerollable Saves
Increased Shrouding Effectiveness
Rending NFWs
Justicar AT Psychic Powers
GKs would not use Jump Packs...too mundane...you will see teleport packs before that...unless fluff gets butchered
I heartily believe that Dreads will be downplayed and stay the only ranged AT.
Flamestorm Incinerators...likely.
GKs might use Drop Pods...I don't like the idea...but it doesn't go against their fluff.
GKs are the elite...everyone knows this. Especially GW, and so I think it is safe to say they will rock.
I don't care if a GK is 50 points a guy...as long as he is worth it.
