seriously, why?

if you compare it with rap, I think Reggae has the best lyrics. Reggae artists sing about the truth, the problems on this earth and such. Rap is just making rimes about how you gonna do your b*tch, or how big your gun is etc.

Besides, Reggae has this 'wwwhhhoooaaa,...Chiiiiilllll' feel.

So..... why do most people like rap more then Reggae? ( I hate rap and LOVE reggae)

All Reggae sounds EXACTLY the same. same rim tap and pace with the beat. UGH!

Although I hate Rap as well. Especially the current "I'm such a Badass" bs.

At least they are calling it "Hip Hop" now instead of R&B since it has absolutely nothing to do with Blues (which I like), granted there is a rhythm but Black Metal has a rhythm!

Ask anyone who hasn't heard that much of any genre and they'll say the same thing. "All country sounds the same," "All metal is just people screaming," etc.

I need to listen to more since you bring it up Suggest an easily... findable album if you catch my drift.

All anything you are not into sounds the same
All death thrash metal sounds the same to me, but dare say the officiandos of said genre can differentiate.

Never understood why they used the R&B tag for a lot of the urban (?) stuff, which incidentally all sounded the same to me
Was nowt like proper rhythm and blues

hey I'm with you on this one. I love reggae rap not so much. I think part of it is because when reggae was first coming around people didnt want to play them on the radio, you know, bc it would compete with soul and stuff like that. basically american black guys vs jamaican black guys, so the american black guys are going to get played on the radio. besides all the rastafari references in roots music are kind of obscure for an american audience. I mean who knows what bobo shanti or twelve tribes is without googling it?

Read this, then go back and reread the comments you made about Rap music.

Matisyahu FTW whilst I'm here.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

I can't handle Reggae, as I feel it's the simplest possible form of music. The vast majority of reggae has the exact same chord progressions and phrasing, and every song starts to bleed together after a while. To be fair, I can't even listen to most music that's in 4/4 timing.

Not that I don't respect people's musical opinions; it's simply not my thing.

Also, rap can be construed as something more (or less) than music, if you're content to search for hip-hop that hasn't hit the mainstream. Reggae never evolved beyond simple rhyme schemes, it isn't rife with metaphors like hip-hop can potentially be, and it's mostly about how you can make your voice sound, as opposed to to the message that you can convey.

well..... if you dont like slower music or a repetitive rhythm thats one thing.... I mean its taste, and everyones entitled to that. Most music is about sound rather than content. Its not just reggae. Thats going to be as true of mainstream reggae as it is of, say, mainstream pop. That entire genre is completely devoid of content. The sound is the only thing that matters.

But reggae really does have as many metaphors as any other genre. Bob Marley described cities as concrete jungles, for instance, or his detractors and naysayers as ghosts. Those are metaphors.

I don't like either rap or reggae. most rap is just dumb variations on the same gangster/badass/mental midget theme, and reggae is SO SLOOOOOW. AHHHHHH. DEATH BY SLOW MUSIC.

Now this is more like it

Perhaps 'simplest possible form of music' was a bit harsh. I mean, there are genres such as punk which are completely devoid of any musical content. Reggae might have quite a few layers at it's disposal, but when each instrument doesn't go beyond playing five separate notes, and every song relies on the same exact structure, I fail to find it musically interesting in any way. My taste in music is completely dictated by the content of the music, rather than the sound or the 'feeling' that it is trying to convey.

I'm not saying that reggae doesn't include it's fair share of metaphors, I'm simply saying that hip-hop and rap seem to have the ability to include far more than reggae ever could, if the artist is so inclined. Listen to some early Aesop Rock; you'll see what I mean. Reggae is far too restricted by it's own design to pull any lyrical miracles like this:

Etcetera. This also renders the argument that rap is completely devoid of any deep messages null and void.

Pain is an illusion of the senses, Despair an illusion of the mind.

In the words of Paramore, let the flames begin... Why would you ever make such a generalized statement? What exactly are you defining as "musical content?" Every genre has it's ups and downs, but that statement is just total ignorance.
