Should there be like a grammar article or perhaps sticky thread about some basic grammar rules? As it seems that many people seem to do many mistakes in writing words or sentense's construct is f ed up.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

Unfortunately most of those who would need it wouldn't read it. The others being non-English speaking people.

Still I guess a new group of Moderators called the Grammar Police would be pretty entertaining.

I can see this thread going bad. But I would prefer that users avoid text-speak when writing stuff if only to be clear. Not everyone has english as a first language and not all of use can follow this yoof talk.

I will personally kill every one of you who uses L33t sp34k, texting speak, or types like they're on baby's first keyboard.

I'm pretty quick to ask people to use better grammar in their posts, but if their flag is a non-English speaking country I'll give them a pass. You don't want to know how bad my German is.

The grammar of most Dakka members is exceedingly good, Carruthers. Except for young Samus who seems to have a problem with it.
"Never had a problem with it" lacks a verb and is not a sentence.

The word 'had' is a verb. You know; the past tense of have? As in "to have"?

It's okay. Don't cry. You were tryin' real hard to zing Samus, so we'll give you a gold star. An "A" for effort, as it were.

I don't find I have any problems with the occasional misspelled word, misplaced punctuation mark, or what-have-you. Nor do I have a problem with common short-forms, especially those relevant to wargaming (IG, SM, etc). Sometimes, though, a quick run through the spell-checker is all it takes to catch some atrociously poorly-written posts, though. I have no tolerance for posts too shoddily-constructed to read.

Why is everyone misspelling grammar?

On topic: I absolutely agree that all native English speakers should abide by the most basic writing rules, e.g. they should use correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, word order, etc, as often as is reasonably possible.

Sure, it may take a person slightly longer to write a post. To that I say: "suck it up and make your posts readable."

I believe, deep in my heart of hearts, that someone who writes poorly is. . . stupid. Valid or not, this perception colors my interactions with them.

There is a certain type of poster who believes that no matter how he abuses the language, we should all treat him with respect and answer his question- even when we cannot tell what his question is. This is just rude, and I wholeheartedly endorse the vicious mocking of such individuals until they cry.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.
