Seriously. He Kicked Butt. We need a awesome super hero that fights for the enviroment. There could be an episode where he goes beat up the Ceo of BP then throws him into the gulf. Who else is with me?

-to many points to bother to count.

In your head, screwing with your thoughts...

No, the message of Spongebob is that Mr. Krabbs lives in Bikini Bottom. Beware, children!

Actually, no.

Captain Planet was horrible. The only cartoon worth a feth from when I was a kid is Ren and Stimpy, and that's a stretch at times. Any show where one of the special powers is "heart" is total gayness.

Yeah, but at least the heart guy was utterly useless except for calling the Cap'n

I do believe you may have forgotten other greats, such as Pinky and the Brain, and The Tick

Well I give you that it was cheesy like the power of heart

But it teachs the values of protecting the planet through recycling and reducing green house gases to kids.

I also learnt that taking antibiotics frequently would lessen their effect, so you should only have them if you need them, and not for common colds from Captain Planet!

Now thats television!

I think it was a bad idea, as a cartoon. It's nice to have a message, but environmentalism isn't really a concept that lends itself to a 30 minute kids cartoon.

Thing is, you need someone to punch at the end of the episode. You can't have the heroes kicking down the door of CEOs at multinationals and start dealing with the complicated idea that the companies who provide jobs are also the companies who destroy environments, that's too political. Instead you invent a collection of supervillains who are, for some bizarre set of reasons, actively trying to cause environmental destruction. It's nice and simple that way, but also really inane television.

Give me the Centurions any day.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

NOOO!!! Leave it dead! Captain Planet was terrible. Just a bunch of hippy nonsesne, I mean they hung out with Gaia for feths sakes. If someones gonna go dredging up old 90s cartoons and zombifying them, then bring back a good one like Rocko's modern life, or get those people who made that awesome Batman series writing new episodes or something. Bringing Captain Planet back is like bringing back Disco, leave it in hell where it belongs!

Maybe they'll leave the "total suck" out of the new version.

That show was crap. You all know it. Search your feelings. You know it to be true.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Notice how it's only the African Kid (name I can't remember) who calls Captain Planet. What happens if he doesn't feel like it one day?

I vaguely recall watching this when I was supposed to revising for GCSEs.

Russian babe was wind
African kid was earth
Brash American was fire (well duh!)
Chinese cutie was water
Which left the South American weedy kid as heart

Oh God, the lyrics of the theme song are coming back to me...

"Captain Planet, he's our hero. Gonna get pollution down to zero"

The only way I can see a reboot working is as an ironic live action film starring Will Ferrell.

I agree though, show really really sucked.

Yeah, shoving an message down my throat at 8:00 on Saturday morning is why that show blew. On top of the other obvious crapiness of it. Seriously... HEART?

You got me there.

The Tick was great, and Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain are actually still funny to me after all these years. Still, Captain Planet was painful.
