Greetings one and all. I am in the process now of setting up my own company and I am looking for a company logo. The company is named "Battleroad Games and Hobbies". I am running a contest looking for the best design and will award the winner with several killer prizes.
-They will recieve a T-shirt of the logo they created!!
-They will recieve a GW battleforce/ battallion box of their choice!!
-And to top it all off they will get $90.00 to order from dragonforge whatever bases they want.

That is just over $200.00 in prizes for creating a logo!!

Here's the rules:
1.) You cannot copy another companies logo's or anything that would break I.P laws!!!!
2.) Battleroad Games and Hobbies will own the rights to the design that is chosen with no further royalties paid to the winner.
3.) Any person found to have broken the I.P laws for copyright infringment will be automatically disqualified from the compatition.
4.) Do not email me asking for ideas on what I want this is a solo comp. and I am looking for what strikes you as to fit a hobby companys name.
5.) All submissions must be emailed.

-As many entries as you want with no limit on where you are in the world, or size of the logos.
-You have from this date till october 1st at 11:59pm est to come up with the design and email it to me at alexanderakers at yahoo dot com.

I think it is fairly obvious what they do

However, a link to any website would be cool. Also, is there any limit on people entering from overseas, or is this a USA only contest?

No limit on size location any of that, and as many entries as you can come up with.

I think I know the answer, but I wanted to clarify.
This seems to imply that you will only claim ownership of the "winning" logo. So, anyone who enters but does not win gets to keep the rights to what they create?

Also, as an aside, do you plan on sharing all of the images submitted? Might be neat seeing them all.

Yes only the final logo will be "purchased" with to be used and the logo will be on T-Shirts, business cards, and will be the banner for our website etc..... Also I will post some of the best logos both on my blog and here. The winner will be contacted via email to get their address and the information for their prizes and away we go.

Can I still keep the logo for portfolio use?

Yes, but the winner will be signing the rights over to the company. I have no problem though with somone saying" hey I did this, just you can't use it". This is meant to be fun and a chance to get somones work out there. I could have done it myself but I wanted to see what others can do.

We will be selling all of the usual ones, as well as a couple one off lines from smaller companies. Also we are in the process right now of having several major sculptors working on two historical lines for us. We are doing what will be called the "Founding Fathers" which will be one off limited runs of some of Americas most famous individuals, as well as our first gaming line is the American War for Independance. The reason we are starting with these is "The Battle Road" is not far from my house and it is where the revolution began with the shot heard round the world.

That being said, I did it in 10 minutes, experience counts, and frankly it would be significantly more in depth were it an actual contract, multiple iterations, market research, focus groups etc etc. I have a feeling that a lot of other submissions will be dirty skully grunge logos, I am sort of curious how people will react to a 'conventional trained corporate design' vs the more gothic mini stylings we usually see.

Frankly in general though, you are right, now I feel a bit guilty lol

Since there is no site (that I can find anyway) it is difficult to sat what direction they are going for, or if they will decide that when they get the logos.

While I do see what they are saying at no-spec, there is a difference between getting a bunch of design studios to submit random designs and running a free-entry contest for people to willingly submit designs in order to win stuff.

It's open concept, it's pretty typical for a company to do. In most cases, if you don't have a strict vision in mind from the outset, it's best to let the artist or designer go with their experience and talent. Usually turns out best that way.

Afterall, a good design should be able to sit in a variety of settings...
