I use a ton of that stuff. I have Vostroyans. I don't understand why they got rid of it. I'm pretty much out of my stock now. I have subbed Tin bitz/ dwarf bronze 1:3 but it looks so, so. I was gonna try scorched brown/ shining gold but I wasnt sure of the mix and dont want to waste paint. Does anyone know if its still sold anywhere ? Has anyone know of other companies besides GW or do you guys have a good mix?

Vallejo Game has a very close match, and imo it goes on much smoother. I'll have to get the exact name when I get home.

CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT!

I find a mixture of scorched brown and shining gold gives an AWESOME texture and shine to the model, it makes it less grainy and more smooth and shiny. I used that on my High Elf Prince on a Griffon from IoB, and it really turns out well.

Especially if you do a thin drybrush of shining gold over it, leaving the recesses more shaded.

I also loved brazen brass, so am delighted to see this thread. I also agree Dwarf Bronze completely sucks. I haven't found a good use for it really.

Anyway, on Brazen Brass - when I went to reorder, and Neal advised me it was all gone, he said he'd give me a substitute. I wound up with Vallejo Brassy Brass. It is equivalent in all ways - specifically, it also has a tendency to clump, and the coverage can be patchy. You're going to want to use 2 thin coats every time, unless you're painting rivet heads or something like that. That being said the finished effect is excellent, especially when you paint with Tin Bitz and then drybrush Brassy Brass over.

edit - spelling fail 2x - i just woke up

And if you just want to get the old Brazen Brass, Coat D'Arms still sell it. Here's a direct link for you. Unfortunately, you are in the US, so it might be cheaper for you to get an alternative instead of buying from a UK company.

I used Dwarf Bronze on my Night Lords test model. (see link in sig)

I wish they hadn't gotten rid of Midnight Blue or Liche Purple.

In response to this thread, isn't Vahejo's "Game Color" range not just a copy of all the Citadel colours as of a few years ago,, thus the perfect fix to this problem?

Brassy Brass rocks, used a ton of it on my Cygnar

Last I checked, they still do Liche Purple: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat470011a&prodId=prod930024a

If you were in the UK I'd consider sending you my Midnight Blue, I prefer Necron Abyss because it doesn't turn an inky purple when thinned . However, it's likely that Vallejo or Coat D'Arms do a very similar colour.

Ahh, Dakka have their very own Colour Chart for moments like these.

This is true. Its also much more cost effective; possesses richer pigments and flows alot better. The dropper bottles also prevent paint drying up and allow for better measurment when mixing.

I've updated the dakka paint chart:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Paint_Range_Compatibility_Chart

to reflect the latest discontinued colours. Quite a few this time, I think I'll be using vallejo game color to replace more and more of the citadel colour in the future just as a precaution and to stay compatible with my old colour schemes.

I noted the following discontinued paints that were not already labelled as such:
Fiery Orange
Scaly Green
Bilious Green
Bronzed Flesh
Tanned Flesh
Brazen Brass

I'm most surprised by bronzed flesh as that is one I still use frequently. Did I miss any paints that have been discontinued or is that all of them?

@LadyCassandra: Liche Purple is out. Warlock purple (pink) has replaced it, I guess. Check out my BB plog (also linked in sig) to see it in action.

I have a pot of midnight blue left. I use it on armor joints and the like to make them pop a bit, as the color has a "blacker than black" kind of effect.

Just checked on the GW UK and US sites. On the UK site, Liche Purple is still there. I know my local GW has about 20 of the new pot styles full of Liche Purple paint because I was eyeing them. See, my collection is missing Liche Purple because I never use it (probably will soon, dark purple hair ahoy) so I have been deliberating getting it for a bit now.

But on the US site... a noticeable lack of Liche Purple. The Australian site also still has Liche Purple, as does Canada. I'm assuming everyone else also still has it. If you look closely, pretty sure you can see it in the Mega Paint Set front cover too. Top right corner .

This picture is a decent way to check if a specific colour is OOP or not, actually.

But back to the subject, aye... Odd that they've done that in the US. Perhaps it had an ingredient they weren't comfortable with?

Who knows the whys and wherefores of that website. much less GW at large? Boltgun Metal has not been available to order from the US webstore for a while now but I found the color in the new pot at my FLGS. Have not been able to find any Liche Purple in stores, however.

Thanks mate!

I started a thread about this exact thing earlier. Any chance of getting the P3 column filled?

I've put out requests for the p3 comparisons before but nobody has any that can be verified, just guesswork. I dont have many p3 paints so cant do the comparison myself, and the few that are on there are very shaky accuracy anyway.

Time for you to begin painting with them. I love them for Warmachine. I began with the starter kits.

However, back on topic. I think the Vallejo metallics are a bit hit/miss dependent upon how long they were sitting on the shelf. Stick with the other brands suggestions for replacing Brazen Brass.

The Vallejo Model Air Metallics, are the proverbial. Being designed purely to run through an airbrush the metallic flakes and pigments are very finely refined and give a fantastic coat, definitely worth a look.

I've got a few and quite like them. I prefer them to reaper, GW and VGC, but VMC are my favourite overall range (though metallics as you say are not great). I tend to go with VMC, Citadel washes and a few of the foundation paints. I use citadel and a few VGC just to maintain colour compatibility with older projects.
