So I was at the FLGS today, playing a game, and a kid broke the flying base on my Shas'O (the only model I have that actually looks good that I've painted), small part of the stand is stuck in his back. Anyone got any tips on how to fix the base?

Use tweezers, or perhaps a pin drill to pull it out.

Also, just glue it with plastic cement (plastic glue) or dig out the part of the base that's in there and pin it with copper wire to avoid this happening again. Flying bases have always been a joke, all my crisis suit flying bases are trashed. Most of the drone ones I had are broken too.

Drill the hole out and get a new base.

Flying bases are just another way for GW to piss in your face.

A friend of mine had a theory that flying bases were made like they are as part of some ongoing servicey scam that was forgotten at the last minute and no one's remembered to fix the issue.

The Stockholm Games Workshop store doesn' event keep them in stock, first time I asked for them I got a blank stare telling me "what's a skimmer base?".

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

My firend who was playing Tau was a big modelling and converting guy and couldn't stand getting paint onto the transparent surfaces as they "broke the illusion".

Use a pin vise and pin the two ends together.

Prevention is the best way to deal with things like these, don't glue them on the stands in the first place!

Yeah....

for the eldar vehicles a good substitute is to mount them on upside down plastic yoghurt cups....and these tend to give better balance as well...

Brilliant! I bet you could make some nice scenic bases for those, with the cups as power generators or something.

I literally just said to hell with that and didn't use them anymore. I plan to pin / magnet the next set of flying anythings i get. I was tinkering with the idea of using a shot glass for the lols >_>

Deffkopters and the other kits today are only plastic though. At least the days are gone where the SM landspeeder was a lead brick precariously perched on top of the small flying base (as that was the only sort available, large clear bases didn't appear until 3rd ed)

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

An alternative suggestion....

The problem with trying to reglue a flight stand to a crisis suit is that the stand has so little surface area to make with the broken off nipple in the back of the suit, that you sit there breathlessly for five minutes hoping that the bond will take and when you tentatively let it go....it didn't. :(

Interestingly enough, baking soda instantly hardens superglue, and creates a reinforced bond. Put the base onto the back, apply superglue, then sprinkle baking soda over it. Instant setting and a durable bond. Blow away excess baking soda.

Try to back it out with a pin vice, as has been suggested. Do you have one of these:

At a GW in melbourne, Had my baneblade sitting on the unused gaming board. Turned around for a second, it was GONE!

I quickly ran around searching for it, and found a kid driving it around on the floor pulling it along by its barrel.

Needless to say I was enraged.

Just cut the flying base down a little so you have more surface area to bond too. I did this on my deffkopters and not only did the glue actually work but as a happy acident all my deffkopters are at diffrent heights and angles on the stand looks really good in a big unit as it looks like there all zipping about etc

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all.

As said above, find some magnets and magnetize bases instead. Then if they are under pressure they just come off instead of snapping a hard to replace base.

Here's my FoW aircraft:

One other advantage is you can file down the flying base and then apply the aircraft at a slight angle, rising, falling or banking depending on how you attach them on to the base.

Hehe

OP, just find a different store to play in. At least you have a lot of stores in the U.S ( unlike Sweden, 2 GW in the entire country! And no gaming rooms. )
