Subject: What keeps the Dark Eldar away from Chaos?
They are evil, hedonistic, love to cause pain and death. They are everything that made the Eldar fall. How they manage to keep themselves untainted by chaos? By they hate from Slaanesh alone?
Slaanesh does. The mere presence of him strips all Eldar of their souls bit by bit. Dark Eldar sustain themselves by acquiring other souls to be consumed.

Yup. The fact that they CREATED A CHAOS GOD AND WIPED OUT 99% OF THEIR CIVILIZATION is enough of an incentive to not worship Chaos.

Slaanesh annihilated their civilization and occupies a realm in which there are rivers made of the tears of their race. Keeping the hell out of Slaanesh's way is the central concern of all of the surviving Eldar societies.

This most definitely. Plus the chaos gods didn't make the Eldar fall. They did it to themselves with their arrogance. Arrogance so great that the survivors who became Dark Eldar still believe in maintaining things they way they were prior to the fall. Even with Slaanesh slowly nomming on their souls.

That's the point. It feeds Slaanesh and Slaanesh doesn't OMNOMNOMN the Delfdars in return.

Carrying on; I thought the Dark Eldar also had spirit stones, or is this a mistake on my part? I always read it as only the Harlequins having no spirit stones.

They give slaaneesh any of the souls they can find.
Better people you enslave from other races than your own soul in the mean time!
Well I have to say humans only look foward to is empowering the Emperors soul. Which is basically heaven as they all combine.
But yeah. dark Eldar are evil!

Seems like most people here haven't read the new Codex which changes the background a bit. I have read it once in a bad and slightly warped German translation, so a small caveat. For convenience I use a spoiler bracket, because you should better read it yourself in Jes Goodwin's words.
Spoiler:
1.) There is no deal between DE and Slaanesh. DE hate She-Who-Thirsts like every other Eldar. And they don't offer souls to Slaanesh to appease it. (And Arhra is no Chaos Eldar ).
2.) To understand DE, you must understand the webway, which is described as being situated in the boundary between real world and warp. It is an old network created by the Old Ones. Commoragh existed before the fall, being an independent junction for webway traffic, under no specific rulership and therefore attracting less respected people . The cults that led to the fall were all present there. During the fall the all destroying psychic wave didn't affect the webway, so these Eldar survived.
3.) The proximity to the warp leaches their souls though, letting them age and wither. But the experience from the cults teached them that inflicting pain to others slowed that leaching and in extreme even rejuveniled them a bit, the longer the suffering the higher the gain. So they learned to change their society a bit to make this "strength through pain" a column of their society. This is not the same as the old pre-fall society, though it might look similar to the uninformed. In fights, most old cults were destroyed, although there still is quite a diversity of cults (wyches, hellions, mandrakes, haemunculi,...). And they are not aware of any collaboration with Chaos in general or Slaanesh in particular.

So you are saying that the thrist now doesn't comes from Slaanesh? But if it comes from their unique custom of living inside the Webway, them why they just don't leave the webway and thereby become imune to the thirst?
So much for maintaining a spoiler for those who wanted to read it themselves in the actual codex Kroothawk.
I remember one of the Deathwatch books that an Eldar craftworld (Don't remember which at the moment I think it was Ulthwe) had an agreement with the Ordos Xenos called the covenant of Isha. The Craftworld would feed the Ordos Xenos information as long as they would send aid when called upon. So the time comes and a Deathwatch team is dispatched, when they arrive at the Craftworld they think they are there to help fight Dark Eldar. Instead it is a trick, the Eldar where offering the Deathwatch marines to the Dark Eldar to be sacrificed to Slaanesh in gladitorial games. Just an example of what the Dark Eldar orchistrate to keep Slaanesh off their backs.

I'm a little confused by this. Why would eldar give humans to dark eldar when the dark eldar are their hated kin? I'm nto saying its wrong I'm just a little confused. Im also confused as to why they would make a sacrificice to slaanesh when they openly despise h/she? Do you mean a sacrifice as in causing ectasy (in the form of pain) in the arena to feed slaanesh rather than a specific sacrifice?
sorry!

Found that strange too. Not about the Dark Eldar but the Eldar themselves. I don't think they would do that, except if they were in the brick of a mass extinction and that meant trading eldar lives for human lives.
The Eldar didn't make the sacrifice. If I remember right the Eldar made the deal with the Dark Eldar to protect themselves (and only the senior members of the Craftworld knew about it). And the Dark Eldar just choose to sacrifice them in the arena, there was also a Shining Spears Exarch that was betrayed and given along with the Deathwatch

DUDES.
This was written by C.S Goto, and as such should not be considered fluff, as the man himself didn't actually know how anything about the Eldar when he wrote this. It's caused much anger amongst fans for this reason.

Even at that I didn't think it was too bad. Plus it fits the idea of the Eldar only looking out for themselves, anyway I was just using it as an example. Take it as you will

But yeah, the Eldar may be out for themselves but there are some things they won't do. I wouldn't say they were unscrupulous, just very pragmatic, so I find it hard to imagine such an "agreement."

I don't know who C.S. Goto is and never read a Warhammer 40k novel (Not available in portuguese for obvious reasons. I can read in english but rulebooks have priority over novels for me.), but still the first time i read the post i tought that was exactly the problem. It's terrible when a writer disfigurates a setting like that.
