Interesting, hopefully I can make it. You should probably make it 5 games. We have a regular 1,500pt tournament that does 4 rounds a day at 1 Hour 45 Minute rounds that goes off perfectly. Starts at 11 and ends at 6ish. Just a thought. It is a bit of a trip for just 4 games but I'll be considering it for sure

Thanks for the suggestion Hulksmash. We have done 5 games in the past and overall the players just felt burned out by the end of four. However if at the end of this year we hear a lot of people wanting to do 5 we might try it again in 2012. At $20 for four games it is still a great time and people will still have time (and money) to hit the casinos afterwards.

Looking forward to it Vern! Invitational ticket for Best Overall and Best General? Too bad it wasn't a qualifier this year!

Ironman was very well run and organized this year, I recommend it to anyone. Probably the best bang for your buck in an invitational tournament.

Yes the "Golden Tickets" will go to overall and Best General. Best General will be determined by who has the most wins and in case of ties the most player votes. The Golden Welvis paint contest is shaping up to have some cool prizes with local store support.

Best Overall will use the Throne of Skulls scoring for best margin out of each army, but will Best General will be most wins or most points out of all the armies? Also, can you submit models for the painting competition categories that are part of the army you intend to play? Looking forward to it, finalizing army now so I can get to painting...

The cool things about a one day format in Vegas is that it gives you a night to go out on the town, too.

It will be the person with the best overall record. so 4 wins, then 3 wins and a draw then 3 wins and a loss ect.. if there are people tied for the top slot then player votes will be the tie breaker.

Just to add to the thread. We will have two games using 5 objectives and two games using kill points.

Pairings will be based off of win loss ratio.

With it only being one day you still have a day to party in Vegas. Actually the venu being a church prevents it from spilling over to Sunday, but it also keeps the cost down to a min for players.

Copied from another thread but I thought it was relevant here.
I can't say what you can expect from any other event because that is up to the people who run their events and everyone does things differently, all I can speak about is what I want to see when I go to an event and what we are trying to acomplish with the Ironman events.

1. Have fun playing some games.
2. Play against people you don't normally play as much as possible.
3. Meet people who have the same passion for the hobby that you do.
4. Recognition for individual achievements (Winning games , Painting, ect..) prizes are nice but not the most important part.
5. A well organized event.

For Ironman XVII
1. There will be swiss style pairings so you have a good chance to have fun playing games.
2. In the first round you should not have to play someone you play every day.
3. There will be prizes.
4. With people from 4 states and 3 countries (so far) you should be able to meet some people with the same passion for the hobby. (most of the locals haven't signed up yet but there will be a bunch)
5. Only time will tell if things keep organized but so far so good. (the club has been doing this for over ten years and I have been running events for longer than that)
6. Lunch will be provided by the church youth group that we give 1/2 of all entry fees to. And they will have drinks and snacks for sale all day long.
7. There will be at least one TFG there (there always is) but we will try to keep them in check and if they don't get it under control we will ask them to leave.
8. You could get everything you were asking about in your first post but we will try to make sure it doesn't happen.

In closing I will say that if you don't feel like it was worth $10 (half pays for lunch) to play then let one of us know but I think you will find that it to be well worth the trip out.

If there any specific questions that anyone has please just ask me and I will be happy to respond.

I have secured extra prize support from local game stores in the form of gift certificates.

Any money that is left over from entry fees will be donated to the trust fund being set up for the daughter of one of our founding members that passed away on Monday.

So how did it go? What were the results?

Of the 58 registered players 47 showed up. Erik Kurimoto from California won best General with Imperial Gaurd 4 wins. Best Overall went to Erik Miller from Arizona with Space Marines led by Vulcan Hestan he also had 4 wins. Erik recieved a player vote for favorite opponent that put him 1 point over the other Erik.
These two players were the only undefeated players of the day. Most of the other faction winners had 10 or 11 points. (basically 3 wins and a draw plus a favorite player vote). There was at least one of each faction in attendance and even with 1.75 hour turns 90% of games were done in less than 1.5 hrs. only a couple of games went the full time limit each round. I am only down $150 after the event and it looked like most people had a good time so I would say it was a success overall. (Main problem was getting a late start due to last min players and tournament software not working.)

Edit most of the no shows were locals that did not finish their army and were told they could not play with unpainted models (A couple of locals borrowed some minis from other players so they would still be able to play.) A few non-locals showed up with unpainted stuff and we let it slide this year because we felt bad that they traveled but we have decided that next year not gonna happen. We will probably have one or two armies avalabial for loan if someone has an emergency (like grabbing the wrong army case) but they will not be able to win.

Sounds like a good event!

Kind of harsh on the no unpainted models, but hey, it's your event.

I'm glad it was a success!

We are trying to make it as much like what the GW Throne of Skulls GT as possible, so we use the same rules for the most part. Some of the other players were pretty upset to see the unpainted stuff because they finished their stuff. There is one player that only came because he is a bad painter and loses at other events based on his paint score even though he has done his best so he wanted to play where score did not matter only effort. He won 3 tied 1 this time but usually wins most of his games and has been to Aard boyz final 3 years in a row. He felt kinda cheated by players that got to play with unpainted stuff.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

I did not go because I had not only unpainted models, but unassembled models. My shipment from The War Store took a while to get to me, and it did not get here until Thursday.

Hey Eric, why don't you sign up for the Sprue Posse event in Hollywood on Sat-Sun?

@ Blackmoor If it ever happens again that you are planning to come and your models arn't done just drop me a line I might be able to let you borrow what you need. I do appreicate that you did not just show up with unpainted stuff, and that you told me before hand that you could not make it.
@ Grimbob I am glad you had a good time. Next year we will start on time. We have decided that if someone comes in late like this year they will have to sit out the first round while we check them in. It was good to meet you as now I can put a face to the name. I think I have found the bad fields in the spreadsheet so I will not have to add all points by hand next year and can get awards announced sooner. I just did not want to do what happened in the UK and announce the wrong winner.

My problem was because of the presubmission of the lists, I thought that I was locked into that one army. I should have e-mailed you to ask if it was ok to swap it out for one of my other tournament ready armies.
