[img]This is my Blood Angels Commandrer honor guard. I chose ot paint them red as opposed to gold, because I wanted to reserve that color for the real badasses in my army. These are painted at least ot get them on the board...really didnt do anything beyond painting various details black and blending up the armor color.

- I did the most detail on the commander, some of his purity seals and the banner is basically complete. But i am more concerned with getting my army done rather than spending precious time doing the minute details (at least for now)...

I would love to hear some imput on my work though.

Also if you would like to recommend what colors to paint certain things, that could be helpful advice as well. I am still up in the air with what color his power sword will be (ice blue, bright green, nmm silver?). I plan to place a helmet from the San guard sprue in his left hand (one of the ornate ones). Im kinda biting the idea from the WD when the new BA were released back in april. Just thought id throw that our there.

Enjoy!

Thanks, yeah the banner drove me nuts....it took about 3 times to get it right (i kept simple greening it to remove the paint). Eventaually I figured out how to paint it more like cloth and it ended up good.

Of course the models still need a considerable amount of detail, but i think they even look good the way they are.

It is a combination of a few different colors, started with mechrite red, then inked the lines in black ink, washed it with red gore, then a 1:1 of red gore/blood red, 2:1 blood red/red gore, and a final highlight with blood red and also painted this wherever light would reflect.

I like the lightning idea, but i was leaning towards either blue or green for contrast to a sea of red marines on the battlefield. I think I am leaning towards green with a little yellow in it. Something like this: (picture courtesy of Jawaballs) except alot more refined

All good ideas. That actaully presents a new problem...the blue swords. they work extremely well with the sanguinary guard...who I am due to paint a squad of next. I wanted the powerswords to a have a cohesive look throughout my army. I doubt the green would work with the gold....but I really like the green against the red...too many choices....guess thats a large reason why the majority of my details are still black :(

Thank you. It took awhile. I am in no way a great painter, so it ultimately turned out much better than I thought it would. It was a long process of painting...then stripping, then painting...then stripping. Eventually I got the red 'cloth-like' tone i was looking for. It was real important to me to have a different shade of red for the cloth as opposed to the armor for an added sense of realism. I also experimented with a NMM style border around the red portion...but i wanted to try an make it look like cloth....I think it worked out really well....it is by far the most impressive model i have painted...imo

I wish better lighting in the other 2 images would reveal equally impressive work. It's hard to tell.

For the blood drops on the Captains armour, have you considered a bright purple? Contrary to what you might think at first, it looks very well..as does purple power weapons. Start dark and blend up to a near skull white lightning with purple as your color medium..it is actually quite stunning and not seen very often. I am actually in the process of repainting my power weapons from a Green to White Marble blend..I am attempting a Purple Lightning, and my Force Weapons are Red to White Marbled(since BA psychic powers[i.e. Sword of Sanguine] call for a sword taking on a Crimson Hue).

Just a thought. I'm sure whatever you decide will look great. The banner is amazing and the rest of your honour guard looks great as well!

thanks. Purple isnt a bad suggestion. I painted my devastator helmets purple because I thought blue clashed to much. Also, the purple gemstones are a common theme in the newer GW BA models ive noticed. It doesnt look bad. Thanks, I will kick around your suggestion

Very nice work so far mate! looking very promising!!

As for the power weapons, how about an obsidian sort of effect? Black blades with highlights in your chosen colour? you could do the green somthing like the new dark eldar models armour? I did something similar with my sang guard and libby dread, but in red tones.

Again, great models! Lok foward to more!!

Nice work on the paintjob. Needs mroe highlights, or perhaps that just the pics.

Gold reserved for basasses? Your commander isnt badass enough? Well, I suppose he isnt a flying landraider, or flying librarian dreadnaught... or Mephiston... or Njall LOL

heh heh. Yeah I should have probably specified. Basically its reserved on for the Sanguinary guard. I want them to really stand out when I finish them, and I want the focu to be on them when my army is displayed. So I figured if I painted anything else in gold, it would only detract from their glourious charismatic eye candy! I also wanted to make sure that my squads all maintained a unified look.

and yes...there are two more shades of highlights on the way....just wanted to get them up to a playable (or fieldable) level of painting.

No, not yet. He is on the 'must own' list though. I still have 1 10 man assault sqd, san guard, 1 land speeder, and five tanks to finish. Then I am going to expand on the special characters. I wish I had all the time in the world to paint and finish up my army, but im really limited, especially right being in the thick of school!

When the basics of my army are completed (projected by the end of the year) I plan to have Dante (might convert my own), mephiston, lemartes, corbulo, term chap, and term lib.
