Yeah, that's how I've always pronounced it as well. I actually have more of a 'zz' sound, but always a short 'a'. So Lazz-cannon.

Short 'a'.

Regardless of the verb from 'laser' being "to lase", the actual word llascannon/lasgun/etc) lacks the 'e' which would force the sound to be a long 'a', so it is short by default.

^ this.

Yes, I know it's "las" as in "laser" which is pronounced "lays" not "lass" or "lahs".

I just can't get over how much of a tool people sound like when they pronounce it that way, though. Then, I'm also a person who pronounces it "CHimera" rather than "KHimara". Even though the original greek pronounced it the latter way, I would have to start doing things like pronouncing "chariot" or "chastity" wrong (although I still pronounce words like "archon" and "autarch" properly. It's just when they begin with the ch that it bugs me, but I digress...)

Like the vegetable?

I've never heard anyone call them "tai-ranid" before, but I have heard a few awkward "tae-ranid" before.

Las to rhyme with the word 'as' so short 'a'.

Tyranid would be pronounced tih ranid or tie ranid I should think as you do for tyrannosaurus rex. It's not pronounced tirra no saurus afterall.

Maybe in your weird local dialect it is, but all across the US? Hell no.

I'm from the midwest, and I've never heard it pronounced other than "tir-ano-saurus". I guess if east coast british wannabes or souther drawl does it different - I haven't talked enough about dinosaurs with people from all across the nation.

Must be a local dialect because American dictionaries like Webster show the pronunciation as ti ran no saur. Looked it up online.

I've heard it pronounced both ways, tbh.
