this are shaping up like so:
Dems 51 senate seats
Republicans to have a 10-15 house seat lead.
Dems down to 19 Governors.
I won't rage about how we have to have a civil war or how the northern states should leave the union.
I'll just leave this warning. The tides of politics are fickle, and I don't think Republicans have learned anything from their last sweep out of power. You will actually have to put up real ideas. Stopping health care will not create jobs, Asking for green cards will not create jobs, and protesting Islamic buildings will not create jobs. Nor will barring gays from Military service or wedlock. Corporations cant be trusted with any more tax cuts, and Saying people don't have jobs because they are lazy, or have forclosed homes because they are stupid will wear thin. Enjoy your win but be ready to play ball!
|
And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Washington and reality don't necessarily go hand-in-hand. I really don't see either party chaning their tunes. In my dreamworld there would be a party that stood up for your average citizen and used their brains rather than espousing any one polarized ideology.
C'est la guerre.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

What did i say eh? Best of all i had a $100 bucks with the missus that the GOP would get the most seats.
America is absolutely chock full of gun loving bible thumping wingnuts, and the sooner these Blue State hippy types realise it the better, having spent great amounts of time socialising with the natives in both Virginia and California im pretty much of the opinion that the British have about as much in common with the French as the Reds do with the Blue, US politics is way more fun though eh?

I don't have any faith in any politician at all, no matter if their left, right, up, down, over or under. Their only concern is their bank accounts, anything they say to get a vote, is just something they say to get a vote. The smear campaign commercials are just disgusting, the phone calls they make their slaves make are even worse because then they're just begging.
I do believe there are a select few who do care about their job, but they are so outnumbered they really have little to no chance of accomplishing anything worthwhile.
When I vote, I don't even bother with any of the stupid issues that people always talk about or what this or that candidate says they will do. I vote for the people who annoyed me the least or who I never even heard of And yeah, they pretty much never win...

I love the irony behind blaming a poorly run democratically elected government on itself and then wasting your vote because you don't feel like it does anything. Wait. No. I don't. It's Americas fault it's government is in shambles, maybe it should stop crying itself to sleep and blaming the fat cats.

Hey, we virginians are an odd group to begin with matty, we've always been like that and always will be like that. Look at the civil war where everything borke into north versus south, do you know how Virginia broke up? We broke up into Virginia and West Virginia, conformity be damned.
Also, that's more of a west vs east kind of thing, not necessarily a red vs blue thing. I would say that a better comparison for you would be england compared to scotland or wales.

I find it interesting that some of the states that take a lot of federal money are strongly republican. It doesn't seem to make any sense.
I will pay attention in the next little while and see if this changeover makes any huge difference- the Republicans seem to have a high level of party discipline that makes it easier for them to have political influence than the Democrats, who seem to relish the taste of their own young.

I don't vote and encourage others not to vote. I figure the more apathetic potential voters become the closer we reach a point where people as a whole reject the current two party system allowing a populist demagogue to sweep in and make radical changes. Then when his policies turn out to be complete failures or wildly successful he'll be assassinated by people with a interest in returning to the status quo resulting in social unrest in the US for years. Allowing the Chinese to consolidate their power in Asia and the Middle East while Americans turn inwards to focus on domestic issues.
I actually voted for Chet Edwards, 20 year incumbent. I like his voting record and the nutso that's running against him constantly claims that America is a Christian nation. Unfortunately the nutso is winning.

The logic there doesn't work. You want people to vote less so that people will rabble rouse and vote more.
Now I understand, it's because this is crazy.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Don't need to fillibuster when you can veto. So, no, not yet. But the sentiment is correct.
That said, it was when Clinton was President over a Republican controlled Congress that we saw some of the best functioning of government in recent history.
Perhaps now the Dems will stop being in such a panicked rush to drive liberal pet projects through, and we can start doing some more bipartisan compromising, and restore some faith.
Plus, having a huge number of new faces, no matter what party, somewhat dilutes the ingrained culture, although there's so much culture built into DC that it's probably not going to change.

Most of the republican wins are old faces. Even on the Tea party side. How did all the new faces help the Dems last election. I doubt the Republicans will work with Obama now when Not working for him seems to uhh.....work so well for them.
They won't be able to do anything with the house majority and i do so want to see how Rand Paul acts now that he is in the big times.

Lately I've been thinking about the number of people I know who are decent charitable people and very sensible at that, who suddenly become ridiculous misanthropists spouting theories that make barely any sense at al when they start talking politics. It's very odd, and it's on both sides (while it is most noticeable on the rightwing in the US right now, I don't think it is a particularly US phenomenon, nor is it necessarily a right wing one).
It doesn't make much sense that otherwise decent, sensible people would embrace such meanspirited, stupid politics. I think something happens, the scale or the complexity of something as big as a nation is too much, they lose the frame of reference that allow them to apply common sense, or something, and end up believing really strange things. “We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
