Looks like the Large Hadron Collider is actually starting to do, y'know, 'stuff'. None of which has destroyed earth yet.
BBC wrote:The Large Hadron Collider has successfully created a "mini-Big Bang" by smashing together lead ions instead of protons.
The scientists working at the enormous machine on Franco-Swiss border achieved the unique conditions on 7 November.
The experiment created temperatures a million times hotter than the centre of the Sun.

Cool, but a bit anticlimactic. It would have been more interesting if it had caused the end of the world.
Also if they put this into a handy pocket size form the NRA better fight for my right to carry it concealed on my person.

We have been briefed directly by top CERN boffins, and we give you the straight info: the LHC does not and never will present any type of planet- or universe-destroying mishap risk - though there is apparently a chance of an interdimensional portal incident of some type, possibly involving invasion of planet Earth by teleporting, rumbling juggernaut-spheroid creatures from the Fifth Dimension.
Oh rollocks, I hope they don't accidently tune in to Commorragh.

Agreed...I was hoping for some sort of inter-dimensional rip with all sorts of Lovecraftian Gribblys pouring out...you just can't count on Scientist the way you could in old B films.

What's funny is the "simple english" page on wikipedia for the LHC. The regular one is full of formulas and complicated physics. The Simple english one simply explains that it does complicated stuff, and that people were afraid it would make black holes, but any black holes made would be too tiny to do anything.

Especially if I could go into a body of some hot chick's boyfriend during sexual intercourse, man this power could be subject to so much abuse. Also I could theoretically live forever.

I would want to body-possess the Pope, and then proclamate that the Papacy and all of Christianity was a 2000 year old sham and that God doesn't exist.
I don't think the Christianity section of the sampling would approve of this measure...

You know, if they had created a black hole, we could have got rid of an awful lot of crap. I know I would feel a lot less guilty about my son using disposable nappies.
Reminds me of a Simpson's Halloween episode when Homer discovers a portal to another world and throws his coke can into it. It comes flying back with the message, "Quit throwing your rubbish into our dimension."

I agree that the short story was much better than the film, and I get what your saying concerning the ending in the film.
However,
But,yes I see what your getting at,and yes...the book was 100% better.
