Fairly simple... which country's culture do you most admire? Important note to avoid flaming - for the purposes of this thread, admiration of a country's culture is not indicative of supporting the country's current regime.

Mine would be China. I'm totally absorbed by their legends (the Romance of the Three Kingdoms) and their history. The range of food within their cuisine is astounding (and for the most part, pretty tasty). Their language and writing is an art form. Their film industry produces some awesome films (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Red Cliff). Their celebration of New Year makes a lot more sense than our infatuation with Christmas (a thoroughly dubious festival mixing paganism with the supposed birthday of a religious figure). Chinese chess is cooler than our version (it has cannons and a river). And they built the only man made structure that can be seen from outer space (although they themselves deny this to be true). Oh and Chinese girls are hot (well, the cute ones anyay).

Not a reflection of Christians and their overall value system (which I have no problem with and admire to some extent), but Christmas as a festival is daft IMHO.

There's loads of man made objects that can be seen from outer space..well..bits of it anyway. Including golf balls and an American flag.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

In your base, ignoring your logic.

I admire the american culture and that of the british culture. Any culture that can accept a plethora of other cultures and not destroy itself is a ok in my books.

Ours.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Arabs before shariah law (cultural rather than religious restrictions) became all the rage in the 11th century. They were a noble people who made many far more important advances than many other contempary people, in optics (the Chinese never discovered how to efficently make clear glass), mathematics and agriculture.

I'm not just saying it because it's mine - I genuinely think British culture is fascinating. But let's assume love of one's own culture is a given, eh?

I really, genuinely love many aspects of American culture - the music in particular. I am also partial to food in the American style, that is to say, the American synthesis of other culinary styles such as Mediterranean (pizza etc.), German (hot-dogs, burgers) and Mexican (tex-mex). American-style food is a weakness of mine, it's true. Also, American film, much derided for being overly commercial and thus standardised, is largely brilliant.
Also, I fell in love with Catalonian culture when I lived in Mallorca. The food, the lifestyle, the art and architechture - it will always have a place in my heart.

I have a soft spot for the Dutch (although I think their food is mostly horrid, and I'm British!) and the Germans.

And your point is?

The question asked was what culture(s) do we personally like/admire, have interest in etc.

The OP didn't ask "Which culture is the toughest" or "which makes the "best" weapons or has the "best" weaponry" , etc.

For me the Samurai era of Japan is from a historical, artistic, philosophical, sociological perspective incredibly intriguing. The armor and regalia of that periods are works of art as much as implements of war. It has in many ways been romanticized by the West to the point of absurdity, but is highly interesting and aesthetically pleasing to me none the less.

Hmmmm. I admire a lot of different cultures for different reasons. I admire British stoicism and good sense, German work ethic and social conscience, american confidence and positivity. Those'd be my top three. I also admire the policies of Finland, but most of the Fins I've met have been unpleasant people who were especially negative about irish culture. (Btw, I am a bit negative about ireland, but I reckon I earned it by living there for 25 years )

Very well.

Admitibly we for the most part act JUST like Americans in the bigger towns. But their are many spots off to the coast like the Queen's Islands that have a very "Old British" Kind of feel. Lot's of pubs/farmers markets.

Hell... They don't even I.D and everybody knows everybody. I like skiiing, and everything else you can do in the outdoors. I haven't gone hunting. But I think after graduation I am going to rent a boat and go fishing.

Now... Admitibly I haven't left North America but my Grandmother has told me everything she remembers of good ol Norway. Taught me some Norsk. And occasionally cooks Crips bread. And Rakfisk. And to this day skii's she's almost 70 and more healthy then me.

I love America around the 20s on up to the late 40s. That section of our history was just great, it makes me wish we were more like that in some regards.

But non American culture Id say the ancient Asian cultures, you know China, Japan, Korea. The way their armor/weapons were. Just very cool looking. The whatcha(how ever it was spelled) was just pure badass. A flying rokkit assisted arrow system that vomited 200 arrows in no time = win
Also Greek. Man they were some smart mofos, and the buildings they built, even to todays standards were just impressive. I find it very cool that a culture could build a building, and thousands of years later, they still stand and look great

I believe it. I used to work in a small dollar store a couple years ago, and this one day, this Canadian and his English friend came in to get out of the rain. So we shot the gak for an hourish. The only problem was the Brit spoke some language that I could barely make out as English. His Canadian friend actually had to translate for him, because he would say something really fast and full of slang, and then laugh at himself.

It was confusing but dammit, I enjoyed the company

Where do you get that notion from? Even Ashigaru armour from the Sengoku Jidai era ("The Period of Warring States", the era most commonly thought of as the samurai era) was not made of bamboo, let alone Samurai armour, and their blades were some of the finest ever made. In this era, Japan never even fought a war against western armies. They had only minimal contact with the West at all, and it was reduced over time until the almost total isolation of the Tokugawa period.

By the time they interacted again with the West following the isolation of the Tokugawa Shogunate, armour was obsolete in western armies anyway.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

A resilient, pragmatic people who not only made beer out of sour milk, but also conquered the largest continuous land empire the world has ever seen. I love the art work, culture and military history of this people, I have met several mongolian folks in my time, they were universally open, welcoming and honest people.

I do love many aspects of Japanese culture, art and history, unfortunately their obsession of wiping out endangered species and eating them is at direct odds with my beliefs.
