What would be a cool color for a marine that crash-landed on a deserted snow planet?
Because I am making an army out of that...I'm also basing it on either Dark Angels or Black Templars.

I was thinking of like a grey armor, with a more dirty red/blue/green/purple. And I would sprinkle a TINY bit of modeling snow on the front of the marine to impersonate it's snowing...

Sounds like a good idea. The modeling snow on the marine sounds cool but too much might be bad. Perhaps bases with model snow and some grey boulders peeping out of the snow?

Personally if they have crash landed, I would like to think that they are a completely contrasting colour to the snowy environment that they're in as they're not supposed to be there. So from the paint scheme perspective id choose something like Angels Sanguine chapter because the black is the opposite to the snow, but the red provides a nice contrast.

I also really like the idea of some pieces of white flock on the marines themselves! Only problem I could see is it being too sparse to look good, or too much like they dove head first into a snow drift!

i´d go for the snowtrooper look of star wars. they are the essence of cool...

as for contrasting colors... i think not even sm would be so dumb as to prance around for long on white snow in glowing red or blue...

you know who is meant... we want some of that^^

cheers and good luck with your new friends^^

What army would be better:
Dark Angels
OR
Black Templars

I'm basing the army off either of these rules. And I want to know everyone's opinion.

I'd go with Black Templars. Ever read Helsreach?

Hmm, I think I would go for DA because all those cloaks and hoods would look very nice on a snowy background.

No I have not, the only 40k that I've read was Salamander. It was pretty good too. Still need to read Firewarrior

That would look cool, and have like a dark color to them would look awesome.

Thanks for the cool idea, I may do the separate parts to my guys.
Have a black, then either Bone (Templar) OR Dark Green (Dark Angels)

Where would I find the rules for the BT's and DA's ?

Hello Mr. Awesome,

With this army I suggest either camouflage, or something completely contrasting to the snow, like a dark blue. Maybe even really get into it (ok, the following will not sound very cool) and give them icicle- looking blades, maybe put a layer of gloss mixed with a slight amount of the modeling snow and put it over metal and make it look frozen-ish? Not sure if any of this inspires, but have at it.

I havebased my army entirely on that, being the first ultra marines sent to planet loki to use it as a front on chaos, that planet is now home to space wolves, thus these being the very first based space wolves. But still using space marine codex.

Aqua, you have just inspired me!
I have painted a marine as a test model and he turned out great. Will post a picture soon (lost camera)
I used a techneque sort of like yours, with two very close colors and the brighter one as the trim. I used a black with a black-ish grey. Turned out pretty cool.

Nono, like They would look like they would be in a B&W movie. There would be like different tones of grey.

a greyscale SM army :O im getting the most amazing ideas ever for this, but how would you do it?

Perhaps take black and white piccies of marines you painted already and paint the marine off the black and white photo?

Black and white anbd lots of greys... a film nir Space marine chapter... now that would be something worthwhile to look at. maybe for details just the slightest hint of mecharite red....

As soon as I read 'greyscale army' I instantly thought of your models. Love the Sin City feel about them. Instead of the red though they would possibly fit better in the snow with a nice bright blue (Enchanted Blue?). Just a thought.

Sorry to s**t on your fluff, but there's no way the Space Wolves were founded by members of the Ultramarines...that's just...no. Have a read up on the Space Wolves here

I was looking for a snowy, more feral look to my space marines. This was the result, on tabletop standard miniatures:

Anyway, I have to say 2500, that army looks really good.
And to an00bis, you're on the right track, but more too the look of black and white dark angels.
Idk how to post pictures saved onto my comp, but if you want to see the view I'm going for:
Save a picture of a dark angel
Open in photoshop
Image > Adjustments > Black and White
Blue Filter

and there you have it.

I second this, holy COW that is some awesome cardboard work. Did you use a template or something?

Also the fluffy hoods on your scouts is just awesome. And those sniper rifles are sweet, shotguns/boltes right?. Really nice work on your army
