Greeting everyone, didn't really know where to put this topic so I'll put it here. Anyway I play Blood angels guard and chaos. Ive been thinking of playing some blood ravens. But there is a twist -Que dramatic music- I am not sure which codex to use, I am not really feeling it with the normal vanilla marine codex. yet i really wanna play them, what codex should i use for them, or do you think i should just use the vanilla codex!

Vanilla 'dex should be fine. Just make some rules for Librarian combat squads for their All-Libby company.

To my knowledge, they pretty closely adhear to the Codex Astartes. They just have a metric feth ton of psychers in their chapter.

If you want mass Psykers, go with Space Wolves. Thousand Son Psykers really sucks despite the fluff.

oh yeah. I just know every single TS player facepalmed when the Chaos Codex came out, and then headdesk'd when the Space Wolf Codex came out.

using the rules to represent something doesnt necessarily mean it's a successor chapter. It's just a "count as" army.

The regular vanilla codex should do it; just take Librarians in both HQ slots or what have you. You probably won't be using more than 2 HQs in any given game anyway. The suggestion to counts as Space Wolves works for the Librarians, but there's nothing else in that codex that really says "Blood Ravens". There's no mentions of ThunderRaven Bloodbirds or whatever ridiculous counts-as somebody will try to justify. Just go codex Marines; they even had a few mentions in the 4th ed codex.

Definitely the vanilla dex, It has everything that BR need including the Libbies and what not, as they more 'codex' orientated anyway, nothing in any of the other marine codex's scream "WE WOULD BE PERFECT FOR BLOOD RAVENS BECAUSE WERE COOL", go vanilla

Another vote for the vanilla; not least because their is actually a picture of a Blood Raven inside of said codex.

How a chapter with that many psykers avoids being renegade is beyond me.

It is very interesting, the Blood ravens, if I am correct are in a civil war against the corrupt blood ravens. Anyway it looks people say vanilla is good! Do you think I should use special characters as count as or no!?

well, you could use Tigerius to represent their Chapter master(even though he has fallen to Chaos)


other then that, their characters don't match up with any existing ones for equipment.

Blood Ravens are a Codex Chapter other than the Ordo Psykana, so Vanilla would be the best to represent the army as a whole. It's just how you wanna handle the psykers.

But the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th 9th, and 10th and 1st and 2nd will be all fine to use.

Yeah i just looked it up and fair enough. It isn't the entire chapter HQ but it is a fair amount of it.

Yep

It's a codex chapter, just include a librarian alongside your force commander (or solo).

It's not like they have more than one librarian in a battle at any given time.

If you want to use the corrupted side, represent the chapter master through a chaos sorcerer, with nurgle corruptions on his terminators and chaos marines.

I always thought that the Blood Angels codex would work for Blood Ravens, as in game you can cap points with assault marines (Well, with devastators too, but thats difficult to do) and they have 2 DCW Dreadnoughts. And your almost forced to use Librarians as you HQ choice. But codex: Vanilla is also a fine pick.

Blood Angels is actually one of the worst ones to use, given that Blood Ravens are far more appropriately covered by Combat Tactics instead of the BA rule.
