I am curious and I want to wonder/ Wallow in memory lane for while, to jog my memory post your favourite or items of Wargear or equipment that you miss from older editions of 40K (Pre - 5th Edition).

My Votes go to :-

Haywire Grenades (Probably would be quite useful in 5th edition against all this vehicle Spearhead nonsense!)
Hand Flamers
Master Crafted weapons
Needler Sniper Rifles (for Space Marine scouts!)
Anything the Squats used!

In the bad old RT days you used to get some mental combinations of Wargear. The worst offenders were Imperial Assassins, they brought a whole new meaning to the words "Tooled up".

Shuriken Catapults - pre-3rd.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Sonic Dreads and Predators. Those were awesome. Plague Swords and all of the old Daemon Weapons. Namely the Dread Axe (no saves at all if it was on a DP), Kai Gun (S6 AP3 Gun) and Berserker Glaive (2D6 attacks and 4+ invul Save if I remember, and not a horrible drawback like the one we have right now). Axe of Khorne was also fun, as well as the entire library of Daemonic Gifts.

On the Nid side, ALL OF THE UPGRADES FOR THE FEX. Especially Enhanced Senses. Then there was the 3rd edition mutation rules. God how I miss those (I didnt get my nids until the closing moments of 3rd edition Nids, so I didnt get to use them as much).

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

Looking back, Nids got horrendously expensive in terms of points. Tyrants use to cost 90 points a piece and couldnt even go higher than 200 before. Now if you want a good tyrant, it'd have to hit close to the 300's and starts at 200. Same goes for the fex, it's price doubled while suffering Three Stat penalties. Yeeesh.

collar of khorne personally. for 5 points it was pretty tough to beat and it filled a real need in the last edition of the csm codex. I would dearly love to have it back.

I don't remember what that does of the top of my head but if it makes them immune to magic then yes.

Virus grenade. Just toss one and watch the good times roll.

Would the Tyranid Event table count? It was a lot of fun. It was sort of like a pre-fight wargear item.

yes... but the only guys who can have it are heralds, blood thirsters and demon princes IIRC and it just applies to them. I would like to see it more available for khorne demons and marines too. the current csm codex is completely naked when it comes to defending against opponents psychic powers. most other codices are not. you would think for guys who live around magic all the time they would have thought up some ways to defend against it

The eldar Crystal tagetting matrix was awesome but also mean.

You could use it to shoot in your movement phase so you never had to expose your grav tank to LOS. Very overpowered!

There was also some thing that repaired the vehicle as it went round I cant remember what it was called though something like warp spider web or something? Anyone recall?

We love what we love. Reason does not enter into it. In many ways, unwise love is the truest love. Anyone can love a thing because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect.

The entire 3.5 CSM codex. As a Thousand Sons player, there is practically nothing in the 4th Ed codex I wouldn't replace with things from the 3.5 Ed one.

I also miss quite a few things from the previous 'Nid codex, but the current one has quite a few sweet upgrades of it's own. It just has other issues.

I don't think weapons are lacking so much as the way 3rd 4th and 5th ed have stripped away modifiers and extra rules.(and the complexity of RT 2nd ed swings and roundabouts) which made certain weapons and armour even more uber powerful.

I do miss the Mk 1 plasma weapon rules Sustained fire but more of a chance to overheat.

Oh, and Plant grenades (pointless now).
