The 3rd Meatgrinder tournament in Raleigh is coming up, February 26th at Game Theory. The tournament has enough room fr 22 players and this quarter we are giving away a professionally painted Chaos Demon army as the 1st place prize. That's right guys and gals, we are giving away a painted Chaos Demon army to the winner. So here is the information as follows.
-Entry Fee: $10
-Location: Game Theory, Raleigh, North Carolina
When: Feb. 26th
-Start Time: 10:30am
-Contact information: you can contact me at supply.run@gmail.com or call Game Theory (919)787-4449 (ask for Rob, store owner, or Abe, manager).
-RSVP only, First come, First serve.
-1850pts of Standard Force Org.
-Scenarios are released 3 weeks prior to the tournament.
-There are no soft scores only Battle points (similar to 'Ard Boyz)
-First place prize is a painted professionally painted Chaos Demon Army with second and third prizes to be announced later.
-Models do not have to be painted but must be modeled appropriately (wyswyg). However, not alll models have been released in some armies (such as Griffons, Wracks, etc ...). In this case proxies are allowed as long as they are equipped correctly, are the appropriate size and on the right bases .
-Bring 5 copies of your list (1 for yourself, 1 for me, and 1 for each opponent).
Pictures of some of the painted models will be added to this thread in the upcoming week or so but I do have a con I have to attend in a week and a half so maybe 2 weeks roughly. Happy hunting and we hope that you can join us there.

Pics are coming out this week (whenever my buddy brings a camera that can handle taking phots of minis as mine can't). Most of the models are already back to us at this point. Here is a list of what has been painted and finished to date:
Keeper of Secrets
Deamon Prince
Soul Grinder
20 Daemonettes
15 Plaguebearers
4 Bloodcrushers
5 Hounds and Karanak (spelling?)
There should still be coming another 20 Bloodletters, a Bloodthirster, another Soulgrinder, and some Screamers within the next week or two. Of course, anything that hasn't gotten back to us at that point will be shipped to the winner (there is something in the list of models that I am forgetting at this point - sorry, I just woke up from a nap). The models are compliments of a local gamer who donated everything to this tournament (Sean Pecor) minus the screamers.
I am releasing the missions here in a day or two, just trying to get some additional feedback on them before we release the final draft but I will tell you the missions are meant to be challenging as this is a massive prize for first and we threw some old school secondary and tertiary mission objectives in the mix for the final mission. Always remember, I am open to suggestions even after the missions are released up to about a week before the tournament but so far the feedback has been quite positive on them.

Okay guys, so I am posting the first two missions for the Meatgrinder III tournament with some additional information.
Tie Breakers
First, as the the top prize cannot be split we have built into the system 4 possible tie breakers to eliminate any potential problems. These tie breakers are ranked in order that they will be applied to determine potential ties. There are enough options here that I don't foresee a tie after all 4 options have been applied.
1.) Head to head victory: If you played the person you tied with and beat them, you win the tie break.
2.) Victory Points: At the end of every round calculate the total victory points that you killed during that game. The player with the highest total wins the tie break.
3.) Strength of Schedule: Both players add together the combined battle points of all their opponents. The player whose opponent's had the highest combined total wins the tie break
4.) Single Largest Victory Point Margin: The player who has the largest victory point differential in a single game, wins the tie break.
Playing Opponents
No player will be paired against a player they traveled to the tournament with. However, after the first round Swiss Pairings go into effect. This means that under no circumstances will I change who you play against (in round 2 or 3) simply because you traveled together, you are friends, you play at the same store, etc. If for any reason you are paired against someone you did travel with in Round 1, simply let me know and it will be resolved before the game's start. If you tell me half way thru a game or after game 1, then there is nothing to be done.
Lunch Break
Players are allowed to play a few extra minutes into their lunch break as long as both players agree or a judge decides that it is necessary (example: someone who is simply a slightly slower player can put their opponent at a disadvantage. In this case, we would grant an extension and I would send someone to get you guys lunch somewhere if possible). The lunch break will not be cut short during this tournament for any reason. People have been guaranteed a certain allotment of time, and with this many people, a unanimous vote to end lunch early will most likely not happen.
Judges' Rulings
All judge rulings are final but may be readdressed between rounds. Players who ignore a judge's ruling or who are abusive to their opponents or a judge, will be asked to leave the tournament. The game is supposed to be fun. Tournaments are supposed to be fun. Should you be competitive? Yes. Should you bring your A game and smash face? Yes. But we can still have a good time and be civil to each other as well. I don't foresee this being a problem but please note the rule is active at all times you are in the store or on the premises of Game Theory.
Objectives
You do not need to bring your own objectives to a game as we will provide them for you. If you want to bring your own, that is fine. Please do not bring objectives larger than 40mm in width to use at the tournament.
Mission 1 - Kill Points (the BoLS system)
Deployment: Pitched Battle
Mission Type: Annihilation
At the end of the battle each player adds up the kill points they earned from killing their opponent's units and then adds their own kill points left alive on the table. The differential between the two players determines the victor.
Massacre: 8 or more kill point differential
Major Victory: 4-7 kill point differential
Minor Victory: 2-3 kill point differential
Draw: 1 or less kill point differential
+1 BP for killing at least one of your opponent's HQ choices
+1 BP for doubling your opponent's Kill Point Total
Special Rules: Tabling an opponent is a massacre.
(Example: I killed 6 enemy units and still have 7 of my own units left alive. My kill point total is 13. My opponent killed 5 of my units and still has 3 of his own left alive. His total for the game is 8. 13-8 is a 5 point kill differential in my favor and therefore a major victory.)
Mission 2 - Objectives
Deployment Type: Spearhead
Mission Type: Mixed
Primary Mission Objective: One objective is placed in the center of the table.
Secondary Mission Objective: Each player places one objective in their opponent's deployment zone following standard objective deployment rules (no objective may be closer than 12" from a table edge or another objective). The player with more of these objectives than their opponent, claims the secondary mission objective.
Tertiary Mission Objective: Table Quarters.
-Only troops may claim an objective or a table quarter.
-A single troop selection may control 1 objective and 1 table quarter. No unit may claim two table quarters or two objectives.
Primary Mission Obective: 12 points
Secondary Mission Objective: 5 points
Tertiary Objective: 3 points
+1 BP for claiming Primary, Secondary and Tertiary mission objectives
+1 BP for claiming 3 table quarters
+1 BP for claiming both deployment zone objectives from the Secondary Mission Objective
Special Rules: Tabling an opponent is a massacre
Sorry for the delay on the third mission but it seems there is a potential loophole that can be exploited that needs to be play tested by a few people today before I release it. We are going to see if we can break the mission and if so, remedy it immediately. Expect the third mission to be released later today or tomorrow afternoon. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to send me a PM on the forums or reply to this post. Happy hunting and hope to see you there.

I like mission 1 very much. I think that is a very good way to do kill points.
However, I have a question about mission 2.
To win the secondary objective, do I have to control both objectives or just the one I place in my opponent's deployments zone?
Also, according to the victory conditions, in this mission I can win the primary but draw on secondary and tertiary and draw the game. Is this accurate? This seems to make the primary objective not seem so primary.
Also, will the wipe rule be in effect for this tournament? If someone destroys all of their opponent's models do they automatically win?

No, you simply have to have more of the secondary mission objectives than your opponent. I'll add that specification into the post although it is on the sheet in front of me. Good call.

Fixed due to responses.

Yes. If any special rules are in effect that deviate from the standard, it is mentioned (the third game you cannot massacre someone by tabling them). If you think that I should still put a "massacres in effect" clause on each sheet, that's an easy fix.

Thank you. I never liked the original kill point method myself very much and thought GW really dropped the ball with it. I've played Kill Points like this several times and found the balance quite nice. Whoever posted this over at BoLS thank you.

over
I have seen different tournaments do different things about this. Some say it encourages people to build totally over the top armies designed to table the opponent and nothing else. That might be true for some, but in general building an army around this idea does not work. That being said, in my opinion, if you kill all of your opponent's models then I think you should automatically win. This is How Adepticon does it, this is how the Big Red rule book does it, and it seems to make sense to me. If the other guy is no longer there, then you win. But this is your tournament and you can do whatever you would like.
Let me go back to Mission 2. Again, while I have a few suggestions, it is your event and I am not trying to tell you what to do.
You have three mission objectives but the way to win is kind of strange still. You have increased the value of primary, but made tertiary little more than an after thought. With 3 objectives, what about this for victory conditions:
Massacre: You control all three objectives.(primary, secondary, tertiary)
Major Victory: You control two of the three objectives(primary and tertiary, secondary and priamry or some mix of the three)
Minor Victory: You control one more objective than your opponent
Draw: You and your opponent control an equal number of objectives
This shifts the mission around a bit, but still makes for a tactical game that you must win big to get the massacre. Just an idea.
Also, I have another question. Can a troop unit control an objective and hold a table quarter at the same time?
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

Here's the funny part, your suggestion is what we originally had. The problem was that no one got a massacre in the play tests (that were done nearly a year ago between some friends looking for new missions we could throw into the mix beside the standard codex ones that challenged us more as players) except thru tabling your opponent. That to me seemed to be counter intuitive to having mission objectives at all. So we toned it back a bit. The response we came up with was to make the primary objective more essential to having a win, forcing you to focus on a specific tactical objective while keeping in mind the other two for more than a minor victory.
As stated above, yes, tabling your opponent is a massacre except in the final game. You'll see why tabling your opponent will not result in an automatic massacre (and hopefully people will like this mission as it has some retro elements thrown in that I've heard people ask for on a regular basis). However, tabling your opponent in the third game means you most likely got a massacre but I guess allows for a pyrrhic victory.
Guardsman 101 wrote:-A single troop selection may control 1 objective and 1 table quarter. No unit may claim two table quarters or two objectives.
It is already in the mission already between Mission Objectives and Win conditions.
And no problem on the questions. The prize is big and people should be giving their feedback. As the guy who got the prizes together and is putting it together (although I don't think I have to be the head judge this time . . .thank god lol) I appreciate feedback, questions, thought processes, etc . . . because it makes each tournament that much better. So keep firing away and making me think about my decisions. It's good for me and the guys helping me out. The funny part is that I've been agonizing more over tie breakers the last few days as (since we did come up with the space for 26 people) we had a tie that couldn't be resolved last weekend. So I hope these look good for people.
On a side note: I edit my posts way too much.

Haha. Well, that was the problem I was imagining. What if you assigned a given points value to each objective? If your system works such that a massacre, major, or minor victory gives you a certain number of battle points, then this could work. Lets say, primary is worth 12, secondary worth 8, and tertiary worth 5. Or something like that. Then you simply score a number of points based on how well you did in the mission, fighting to add points to your overall score with each objective. Just an idea.
Its nice to attend a tournament where the organizer wants feedback. I look forward to the tournament, and am very interested in this mysterious 3rd mission...
