I like both missions I played them both with the newest member of our shop and I won the 1st one, and lost the 2nd one. The was it is set up a I see it now that put my game score as 1-1 and put us at a drow.

My Queston is is there going to be a score count for the type of victory. EXP:

Massacre = 3pts
Major Victory = 2pts
Minor Victory = 1pts
Draw = 0pts

But like this it would put me at 2-3 I lost.
this could help with some of the drows. that may come up.

7500+pts
2500+pts more is to come.

The points for a massacre, major win, etc. are ias follows:

1st and 3ed mission
Massacre: 20
Major Victory: 17
Minor Victory: 13
Draw: 10
Minor Loss: 7
Major Loss: 3
Massacred: 0

The second mission, which I probably never edited that part is a little different. The points can only be earned for claiming the primary, secondary, and/or tertiary mission objectives, which if you total them up, equal the same total points you can earn from the other missions. So if you claimed all 3, it would be 20 points plus whatever battle points you can earn.

Thanks for the update. Do you have any more information about the Daemon army?

Information that I have.

In the end, it looks likes it is about 2k points worth of demons with minimal upgrades to squads (so quite a bit more potentially I guess could be had from it. For example, I didn't include the upgrade points for things like icons or a mark for the demon prince in that final figure).
I can't find anyone with a good enough camera to take pictures for me so if anyone has one that they can bring I would love to get a picture of these bad boys before they are given away . . . call me sentimental. We took some with an 8 mega pixel cell phone camera (off the droid maybe) but they just didn't look anything close to what they do in real life.
It's looking like by the day of the tournament about 1400 points of the 2k will be ready for the winner to take home with the other ~600 points having to be shipped (or if you live in the traingle area - hand delivered). No metallic colors were used on the army. Everything that should have been metal has been done in one of the various styles of NMM (non-metallic metallic).
For the flamers (which can be fragile) I have individual cases for them to be stored in for the winner to take home and keep and need to see if I can't find something good for the Bloodcrushers since they seem a little less durable than the rest of the army (where the bloodletter meets the juggernaught).
Color schemes were as follows - The bloodcrushers are done in reds, blacks and nmm gold and hand painted designs on the swords. The Flamers are done in various shades of blue (dark blue to tourquoise to indian sky) with red to orange blended flames/tongues. The Keeper is in pastel purples with almost whitish purple highlights for the skin, silver nmm sword, gold nmm jewelry, etc. The plague bearers look good and well . . . nurgly (I don't think any 2 have exactly the same base colors/highlights but as a unit they have a nice cohesion to them) with nmm silvery rusted weapons. Sorry if I am rambling it's late but jumped on to answer any last minute questions.

If anyone needs directions to the store feel free to send me a pm and make sure to take the store's number before you travel in case you get lost, need help, etc. . . Last tournament I actually picked a player up whose car broke and will gladly do what I can for you guys. I'll post that last mission either in the morning or mid-afternoon so there are no suprises. Thanks to everyone who has signed up and we'll see you there.

A quick question for mission 2....

If the center objective is contested at the end of the game, don't both players effectively end up with a loss since they're not going to get any more than 8 Battle points at that point?

Well you could get a draw (10 points) by claiming both secondary and three table quarters.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Of course...getting 10 points, equivalent to a draw, when you are contesting the primary and claimed almost all of the other objectives seems strange...that should be a minor victory at least. But at the same time your opponent wouldn't get any points, and everyone else is operating under the same rules, so it's not unfair.

I agree that since EVERYONE is operating under the same rules its still "fair"... but its possible for both players to get 0 points in this mission. So, instead of a draw they were BOTH effectively massacred

Yeah, that would be cool. Also include the D-bags that quit halfway through, and indicate how many points they had.
Dontcha hate it when you play someone, they smash your face for max points, and then quit because they realize they had
no chance of placing? Ought to be publicly lashed.

The TO said that this was his second orginised tourney; and I feel that he did a fairly good job considering that.
My only tips are:
Have tables and terrain pre-set the night before.
Make the missions more "clear". (write them like we're stupid, cause apparently, some of us are.)
Dont accecpt handwritten lists. (this will help stop those +200pt "mistakes". Army Builder is only @ $30 bucks. Everyone who plays SHOULD own it.)
Have prizes "on hand". (This defeats any trust issues. There are a few guys there *if they had won* that would have flipped out when you didn have the full monty there.)

No huge complaints though. Store owner/manager and Gordy seemed nice enough. Oddly though, the guy who took 3rd works there AND booted my last opponent and I
off a table for YouGayO snotnoses. Didnt even give us a chance to finish the opponents assault phase. Dick move. You finished YOUR game, didnt you?

Congratulations to DC, who took 1st prize, and should be recieving his army soon.
Congratulations to Rle68, who got edged out of first (for 2nd).
.....and thanks for playing SadPanda. Without you, I would have been all alone in midfield lol.

So If you wanna play apparently the best players in NC (since this tourney seemed to draw a truly competitive crowd from all over), then head over to the AssaultPhase.com to schedule
a match with DC, Rob (rle68), or Scott (didnt make it to the tourney).
Or just show up at Parker, Banner, Kent, & Wayne in Cornellius NC on any given Saturday.

I do not mean to contradict you, but I know for a fact some people left early because the tournament was so far behind schedule, and they were upset with how badly the tournament was organized.

I had a good time at the tourney. I'll offer some criticism here as well as some things that I thought were better. TO, please take it with a grain of salt. You were a very nice guy and I would be happy to come to another tournament that you run... but we're always looking to improve ourselves right? I also know that some of these things are out of your control.

1) Start on-time. I know, easier said than done, tables being set up is obviously a big contributor to this. OR, maybe 1030 start was too ambitious... 11am next time?

2) Most of the tables had pretty sparse terrain.

3) Be clear about time and how time for the round ending is going to be treated. I know your voice was gone, but you needed SOMEBODY to make some announcements.

4) Pairings....they were a nightmare. Number the tables, assign pairings with a table number. Post them legibly and have someone announce them.

5) Mission 3.... random guys deep striking out of combat on turns 2 and 4,,,, I know its "cool" to do weird things in tourney missions, but please don't. Don't be afraid of the missions out of the book.

6) Mission 1 was a great well thought out way to do kill points. Well done.

7) The location was great being so close to so many restaurants and such as well as having reasonably priced drinks and such on hand.

8) There were a lot of great players with some very competitive armies there... which was awesome to see. All three of my opponents knew what they were doing and gave me great games. (I'll get you next time Rob! My Librarian has been severely punished for running on the last turn)

So, there were a few things to do better in the future, but like I said: I'll happily go back again for another tourney from you guys,

Personally I had a great time, I think Guardsmen 101 did a wonderful job, He was understanding, Fair, Honest. He was a bit understaff, but all thing in mind, he did provide us with a great tournament. We need to give him a break guys, without a TO and the people involved there would be no Tournament and we always have to remember that! I personally want to thank all of the folks there for making Alannahgrimm, Shenra, matt and myself feel welcome. It was nice to have a warm reception when driving such a long way. It goes along way.

My friend and I were one of the guys who trotted off after second round- I was actually "in the running" for 3rd, but with a 4+ hour drive home, sticking around until 930+ to finish up was not really in the cards.

Gordy did a good job- we always appreciate having tournaments of that size and with that caliber of player in the SEast... but, as others said, starting on time, announcing time limits (the main reason my second round ended in a draw-- first round went over two hours, and second round ran way less than 2).

And the 1st mission.... absolutely terrible. What should have been my kryptonite (a tri-raider list) actually saw me with a 5-KP advantage, netting em a major victory without a single shot having to be fired.

The missions overall could use some work-- secondary and tertiary goals (and bonus BPs) shouldn't be gained through following the primary mission. (i.e., the 1st mission's BPs should -not- be kill related, the 2nd mission's should -not- have been awarded for holding the objectives, etc...)

Having the bonus points tied to the same thing as the primary just means that players either get major/massacres, or nothing at all-- diversifying the goals helps spread your field out some and means that players who get max points really worked for them.

I had a great time as well. I was one of the folks who drove more than a couple hours to get there. yeah it was a really long night and I didn't get home until 2am. The TO was super nice and tried to accommodate everybody.

For such an advertised tournament I think people also would have shown up with lists ready. I saw one or two folks hand writing lists just shortly before the start. What's up with that guys? Check out the armies on display so you can tailor your list? I don't think I would have allowed that, again for such a publicized tourny. Either by mistake or not one hand written list I heard was actually fielding like 400 points over in an 1850 game. unfortunately not caught until round 2.

Myself. I played great games against really nice people. Meat a lot of other nice folks Hope too see you all again sometime. Hit me up if you are going to Adepticon.

FYI. My list was a skulltaker+herald+crusher death star type list. Massacre, Massacre Minor victory. I manage to eek out 1st place by 3 points. I'm looking forward to building up and replacing old and damaged units with these finely painted ones.

I left after the tournament feeling very frustrated. Late starting time, inconsistent round length, and no clear announcement of the ending of a round were very frustrating to me. Also, while at first the 1st mission seemed balawasnce, in practice it really was'nt.
MSU spam is already a powerful list type, and usuallt KP is a counter against this. However, BOLS style kill points takes away MSU armies one true weakness and turns it into an advantage. It not really fair...

While There were multiple problems with this tournament, I still appreciate that fact that Gordi put it on. I Sincerely hope however, that future tournaments are better organized.

As in any event with a large number of players there are bound to be some snafu's

i had a great time overall ( situation changed). my second place finish not withstanding

should the event start on time yes.. way to fix that as mentioned set up night before

someone writing up a list on the fly i dont care but they should have been checked before round 1 began

clear start and stop times yes yes yes

i did not care for the bols kill points at all i killed more then double what my opponent did but since i had a smaller unit army then my opp he got bonuses way way out of line

number each table makes it worlds easier

the prizes not being finished....in our discussions after the event i have every confidence that myself and sutech will get everything we are entitled too as im picking everything up for us in a few weeks anyways

id go there and play again

For Chrissake; this was the guys second tourney, give him a break! I'm sure everything you've done, you got perfect immediatly. (apparently except playing BoLS KPs aganst MSU)
I thought he was a cool guy that tried. I often see players whining and moaning. (while not really offering the TO any advice/suggestions)

Do try running a tourney youself sometime..... and oh; if you do, let me know. That way I can show up, play a few times, drop out and leave, then bi*ch about it later on DakkaDakka.
At least I hope I'll have level enough head to spell correctly.

So, I am finally home again.

Any problems with the tournament, whether they were sprung on me at the last second or not are still my responsibility as the TO and for all the advice on the next one, thank you. So rule 1: Do not get sick and lose my voice the morning of the tournament.

I wlll make a few comments - NO ONE who worked at the store played in the tourament. The store sells t-shirts with their logo and the store name that anyone could buy which were on display in their case and back wall with price tags on it. The invalid list was caught during the first round, but after the player had left for lunch. For mission 1 and 2, they were posted on Dakka prior to the tournament and were not a surprise. You either like playing wonky missions or not. We tried something different and some people like it, some didn't. Back to the drawing board.

Here are the listings for the tournament for people that didn't drop (I simply didn't save them from anyone that did and sorry for any mispellings).

I like wonky missions. Though never took advantage of the re- deepstriking myself. Who's "Juice" on the list. We played for 1st. Since it was so close I'm hoping he at least got 3rd. Thanks for the game Juice.

Remember Gordon, take all comments with a grain of salt. Coming from a TO myself, people either like it or don't. And as with life, complainers will make noise. You rarely hear from the folks who have nothing to complain about.

Thumbs up

Rob, I knew what the first mission was.... which is one of the reasons I brought such a kill point heavy list (didn't work for me though). It was still a decent list as I went on to take 6th despite getting only 3 battle points from you round one.

Well, who is going to be playing at Endless Gaming's Grand Opening tournament this weekend in Raleigh?

I'd like to thank Gordy and the ownership of Game Theory for putting this tournament on. While it certainly didn't go smoothly I am sure that any future tournaments run by these folks will have the benefit of experience behind them.

As for the missions, the only one I had any particular issue with was the first one and the fact that it takes the only disadvantage of MSU lists and makes it an advantage.

Thanks again and I look forward to seeing everyone at future tournaments in the area!

Gordie: Great tournament. I really enjoyed it. Had to drive 3 hours there and 3 hours back, and it was worth every minute!

Look complainers: kwitcherbichin! No tournie I've ever been to has been "perfect." So someone didn't come in and set up some terrain? Big freakin deal. I think like one person had a longer drive than me...and if you're traveling that far you better come patient or don't bother. How many of you others tried to help by picking up chairs or laying out the boards? I did...and didn't see too many others offering help.

And how about shutting up when they call for attention? Alot of people talking when they were trying to talk I noticed. And the prize support was ridiculous! 10 dollar entry but like 600 first place...not to even mention the 2nd and 3rd...we were lucky to be involved in such a tournie. I've gone to alot of tournies where prize support is cancelled because enough people don't show. So be grateful for what you have!

Congrats to everyone I played and got a draw with! Getting a draw with who got 4th is almost like placing !
If only a draw during the second round would have netted me some points...I'm not complaining mind you. Anyone who wants to complain should just stay home and play, in my opinion.

Gordie, let me know when you run another tournie...I will try my hardest to make the drive out. Thanks a bunch!

Shenra, I certainly agree that bitching for the sake of bitching or doing so out of anger is neither warranted or constructive.

But, I think there is nothing wrong with pointing out some things that went well and some that didn't go so well so that we all (players/TO/store owner/etc....) might continue to improve on what is already a pretty good tournament scene. You also bring up a good point about what the PLAYERS need to improve on in. Great post Shenra (and great quote).
