Death-Dealing Ultramarine Devastator

Hi folks! Haven't got much time left, need to paint a certain lady for a local competition, so I'll make it quick:

Here I present you my semi-playable/useful "army" of Ultramarines.
First, the Captain:
Got yet to name him, but I couldn't come up with a fitting name so far. What expresses tranquility in the midst of battle and centuries of experience? Let me know if YOU got an idea.

Next, my semi-completed combat squad, Tactical Squad III. Same problem here, no names yet (every warrior shall have a name, they're heroes after all!)
Bases aren't done yet because I still am not sure where they're supposed to be. Fluffwise I can tell you they are called "the Saints of St. Sebastin VI", where they fought bravely under the current Sergeant's command. According to the well-known mantra "I lost a limb, but I gained faith", he is ultra-pious and zealous. That's why they wear a lot of parchment and older armour variants.

Third and last so far, the once-completed, but now re-WIP'd Tactical Squad II. These haven't even a squad name yet; but that doesn't matter, I assume, since not everyone needs a nickname. Same problems here as above. Save for one thing: I'm going to rework they're trims and eagles, because after painting Captain Hodenkinn (my girlfriend gave him that very unfortunate name - which literately translates into "testicle chin" - because of the unmistakble shape of his features. Whatever...) I was so pleased with the new rather than the classic painting scheme... Why, here they are.

Hope you like 'em so far. Please let me know what you think...

/e: Gee, forgot something "important". Added CMON links to the pictures, so if you'd like to vote or, more preferably, leave a comment, just click on the picture in question. Thanks in advance!

I like the look of these guys, especially the Captain, leaning on his SS, looking cool, calm and collected while in the midst of battle.

@ CommissarCandlestick:
Thanks a lot, this is exactly the impression I wanted to create. I mean, he's got a few centuries of experience in warfare. Why would he fear anything?

@ Porcupine el Josh:
Thank you! I feared most of you'd mock me for collecting Ultrasmurf... er... marines. ^^

@ Sandman:
Thanks, man! Badass, eh?
Wouldn't call him like that if he stood in front of me.
"Ey, Captain Badass Hodenkinn! Time took its toll, didn't it? Need to rest on your gear... Weak, weak..." ^^

The base is this http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440271a&prodId=prod1060015

The Shield is from the Assault Terminator sprue, the arm holding looks like an arm from a bike kit, with a terminator honours shoulder, there looks like it has had some sculpting done to the rim.

At least that is what the components look to me.

Nicely done mind I have thought about doing something similar, Captain with Relic Blade and Storm Shield...

Armies | Space Marines (Void Knights - Own Chapter), Space Wolves & Dark Angels | Imperial Guard Cadian and Kasrikin | Grey Knight/Sisters/Inquisitors | Empire - Hochland | Britanan (Relics) | Mordor & Gondor |

Hello, although I'm a static Zero.
I'm fighting all your wars.

Warning: These miniatures contain lead and should not be chewed or swallowed.

These Miniatures may well be miscast...

@ Ghost in the Darkness:
Didn't take much effort. I'll explain it in my response to
@ alphaomega:
Sorry, but you're not completely correct. The arm is partly from the regular tactical squad sprue (the foreram to be precisely), the hand is from the Saguinary Guard and the shoulder part is already part of the base model. The Storm Shield is from the assault terminators, that is true, but it's from the old metal terminator range. But a good guess so far. ;-)
And thanks a lot, by the way!

@ bunnygurl: thank you; there is a lot more on the way. A venerable dreadnought, a five-man squad of scouts and... why, about 51 more infantry, 6 vehicles and... Some special characters, including Calgar. Just stay tuned ;-)

This is pretty much what I've added in the meantime. Sure, their boltguns have been painted, too...

Any suggestions for the bases?
I'm quite sure I will be using snowbases, maybe in an attempt to recreate the brilliant atmosphere of Chaos Gate's mission 11...

"Major" update: squad III is almost done, and I started work on my scout squad.
I suppose you already know these guys, but I'll post them anyway.

In case that you'd like to vote for my Marines, just click on their pictures.
Btw, as soon as I have completed and reworked my tactical squads, I'll add snow to their bases.

C&C appreciated!

Thanks Joske,
but this is not entirely true. Sure, nowadays they do use black bolter casings, but back in the 3rd edition they used to be red. I thought black was quite boring, so I wanted a melange between new and old. :-)

I'll post a picture of the entire army (or rather what I've got so far) as soon as they're based. Or maybe even today... Not sure yet ^^

Long story cut short: thank you, friend. ^^

Blog info:
I've tried to count how much SM stuff I have in my arsenal - and it amounts up to 2 years of work (at my current painting rate).

I planned to do 3-4 tactical squads, 1 full terminator squad, a five-man scout squad, a few tanks and some dreads. So there's plenty of blog material. :-)

Very nice work so far, the Scout sergeant is beautifully done.

A name idea for the Captain could be Otium Bello Sapientia (wisdom tranquility war)

Why shouldn't he be playing Ultramarines in the first place? The only reason I could come up with is that their librarians wear rank&file-camouflage ^^
But it's always nice to be a source of inspiration. :-)

@ Space_Potato:
Thanks a lot!

Nice idea, that's for sure. But I think I want to stick with the names used in Chaos Gate. It's one of my favourite games ever, and I think these would be most suitable for Ultramarines. But I'll definitely think of a variation of your idea. Doesn't sound bad at all!

@ Truffle:
That's sad... You know, I've actually decided to turn the yellow into gold. Not the red, because black boltguns are sort of boring (makes the whole miniature lack colour imho). It just seems to me that gold actually works better with most shoulder guards - and is a lot more variable.
Sorry, really sorry to disappoint you. :-(

@ bunnygurl:
*bows deeply*
My thanks, dear friend. It took me merely seven years of painting to achieve results like these. :-)

@ dark6spectre:
Thanks!
I have a vast collection of heads in my bitz box; some of these are from kits and others have been bought from bitz shops. The scout's face btw is from the cadian command squad. :-)

@ Angel of Absolution:
Depends on whether you meant the Iron Skull or the Imperial Laurel. ^^
Thank you, brother Space Marine!

@ Imperial Monkey:
Yeah, I know... it's sort of an eyecatcher, but a negative one as it seems. However, this is the classic variant of power weapons, so I just had to include it (and because of the saber-ish form, too). Back in the old days they used to paint power weapons more colourful than today, and that's the effect I wanted to achieve. Seems that I have failed... Meh. Perhaps I'll add some touch-ups soon...
Thanks a lot for the compliment, you'll soon have the opportunity to see my landspeeder - so far, I've decided which type of armour the crew gets to wear.

The helmet is from the Black Templars upgrade sprue; it's a variant of the Mk III crusader helmet as far as I know.
The right one's is from the FW Mk V armour set.

@ ChocolateGork:
Thanks!

@ nevertellmetheodds:
Thank you - I try my utmost. :-)

@ Billinator:
That's simply not true. They like 'em a lot, but they've got a hard time opening their shells ^^
But seriously, the Ultramarines do get a little too much attention. Their fluff is nice and their chapter surely is no better than any other, but GW puts out too many stories and focuses too tightly on them.
I can't really understand - sure, Calgar's fluff is nothing but ridiculously exaggerated, but that's not the point - why so many folks don't like them.
The Ultramarines Chapter's background is more elaborate (meaning that they've got MORE background) than any other chapter's, but this doesn't make it "over the top". If, for instance, the Iron Snakes chapter got the same amount of attention, people would pick on this one instead of the Ultramarines.
Seemingly they don't like to know much stuff about their armies. :-)
If I repeated myself or made fatal spelling/syntactical errors, please forgive me. It's quite late here and I'm tired... Good night everyone! :-)

I'd love to translate it into English :-D
