I'm both orderly and rational. I value control, information, and order. I love structure and hierarchy, and will actively use whatever power or knowledge I have to maintain it. At best, I am lawful and insightful; at worst, I am bureaucratic and tyrannical.

Your Ultras are awesome, they capture that primordial space marine feel perfectly. Cannot wait to see more of them!
Btw, where exactly are you from? I'd like to see those beauties on a table, if you live anywhere near me.

The Ultramarines series by Graham McNeill kind of made Ultramarines a bit cringeworthy for me (he's not one of my favourite Black Library Authors, not saying he's as bad as James Swallow, but yeah, not up there with the best) but I can never dislike them, they're just too staunch and good.
Though I do like Roboute Guilliman the grouchy old man in the Dornian Heresy series
@ Fafnir:
Thanks a lot! Took me a while to get there. Almost 1,3 squads and 7 years, to be precisely. ^^
@ Skylifter:
Thanks a lot! There'll be plenty of stuff to see in the future. I'm currently working on a step-by-step tutorial, which I'll post on 40k fanworld.
I'm from Ulm - what about you?
@ BishopGore:
And you shall have the chance. :-)
I really do like the series. Perhaps this is because the Ultramarines Omnibus was my first 40k book, but I still think it's well-written. Somewhat predictable, of course, but on the other hand, which book isn't? There's so much stuff people have written since the invention of writing systems, it's hard to create something new and unique.
That being said, there's my take on doing so. Enjoy!
Spoiler:
The Concordat Crusade
420.M41:
After the successful end of the Concordat Crusade, the surviving Ultramarines are about to return to Macragge.
Zymran, Chaos Lord and primary target of the crusade, was slain by Captain Kruger, who died due to his fatal
injuries after the final battle for the Lord's daemon world.
His second in command, former terminator sergeant Gratus, then cast off his tactical dreadnought armour and, to
honour the fallen captain, put on his Artificer Armour.
His first action was to have the ship maintained in the orbit of the ice world of Barrien. During those months, he
and the other brethren would use the rough conditions for their combat training.
It was only then that they discovered the planet they'd already cleansed during their voyage to Zymran's daemon
world was still infested with chaos cultists. Thus Captain Gratus made the final purging of this world his first
goal.
Captain Valerian Gratus
Gratus was one of the youngest terminators of the chapter - as the sergeant of a terminator assault squad he usually
longed for the bloodiest close combats, always trusting in his thunder hammer's might. Even though he replaced his
beloved hammer with a relic blade by now, he still enjoys crushing his foes in hand-to-hand combat.
Tactical Squad II - Manus Dei
Veteran Sergeant Alarbus commands this squad for almost a full century. His power fist crushed many a champion of
Chaos, and between the chapter's neophytes there are already rumours that the Emperor's vengeful spirit might have
taken posession of it, striking the enemy down with burning and righteous hatred.
These rumours have been reason enough for Alarbus to name his squad after the relic in his possession - "Manus Dei"
- "God's Fist".
Tactical Squad III - Saints of Sebastin VI Since an eldar incursion some three decades ago, the Ultramarines of squad III have been venerated as local saints.
Sergeant Trebonius threw himself heroically between a wraithlord and a group of beleaguered civilians. The
detonation of half a dozen simultaneously thrown krak grenades wrecked the alien machine, but also took a terrible
toll from Trebonius; he lost both his legs and his right eye. When the war ended, roughly a week later, the
surviving inhabitants of the city finally made it to get through to squad III and gifted them with hand-made purity
seals and blessings, to express their gratefulness and devotion towards them.
Some explanations:
I've always been a fan of Chaos Gate (an ancient computer game for those who don't know), and so I've decided to tie in with the end of the game. Some minor changes have been made, but nothing too serious.
Okay, very serious stuff. I didn't want to use an already existing character, just like I wouldn't want to have a character from Final Fantasy VIII appear in my own video game - if I ever were to make one, that is. ^^

I'm from Hamburg, too far, I'm afraid. But if I ever spend some time in your vincinity, I'll try and take a few minis so we can have a game.
Btw, Chaos Gate rocked. The soundtrack is still extremely cool.

@ all: thank you, guys. I really do love such kind of... why, kind feedback ^^
Here's the latest addition to my Ultramarines, Terminator Sergeant Carinus and some of his brethren. The lighting in the second picture is rather messed up, but I hope you'l still be able to make out some of the details.
C&C appreciated, as always.

where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!
I don't normally like the red gun casing on ultramarines....it generally makes them look too cartoon-y. Yours doesn't however. Really good work!
I think they would look better if you did the power fists in a different colour...maybe black?
Otherwise (as you know from your other blog) i love them!

No one paints the yellow and black hazard stripes on their powerfists anymore huh?

@ Imperial Monkey:
Thanks for the advice - I already considered painting them with hazard stripes, but then remembered I wasn't able to paint yellow fpr my life ^^
And thanks for the compliment, too. ;-)
@ Andrew1975:
It really is a shame, isn't it?
@ Ash 1:
Thanks a lot!
I'm not sure yet... I wanted to do snow bases, but damaged some of my lads in the process...
Maybe I'm going to do jungle bases - bought some plants from hasslefree - not sure yet ^^

I followed this thread from your Painting tutorial.
Very nice work indeed. I am assembling an UM Army, and will take advantage of your fine displays/advice.
And yes, I would also like to see you do a Vehicle in the near future
PS - go the Jungle base - as awesome props/scenery bits - aquarium tropical plants (plastic)- a small mixed bag - a few of those would look good, and may tie in well with some actual terrain you could make? Would like to see these talents cross skilled *Hint
Nice work old Bean.

Jungle bases are almost certain.
I'm currently painting an assault sergeant for a duel with another user, and he's jumping beyond some giant ground ferns.
The stuff I use for scenery is from Hasslefree, and it's really awesome.
Vehicles? Phew, these are a pain to paint... Maybe I'll try giving my planned command squad a Razorback. It's about time to get some armour for my lads...
And by the way, I'd love to see some of your UMs. Especially if they're painted following my tutorial. :-)

Dang, almost forgot to post 'em here, too.
Thus I present you Assault Squad Veteran Sergeant Donitius, removing his helmet to gain a better view over the battlefield*.
*: yeah, I know, the power armour's auto-senses provide even better vision than that of a marine, but I figured it would somewhat decrease the field of view itself. ... Okay, I just wanted him to look dang cool! ^^
