After finding my IG troop's camo being more influenced by current real world uniforms I decided a few months back to have a go a painting something actually based on real life.
Here are the results so far:

I picked up a couple of packs of 28mm very modern looking British infantry at Salute, from Empress Miniatures.

Incredibly detailed minis, you can even see the Nexus clips on the pouches. Had a go at MTP, it's a tad on the dark side, so I'm pretending they have all just crossed a river . . .

Just off at a tangent, loved all the detail on these guys so just got them for the fun of painting them.

They are about the right size so could be used as IG:

Also came across these during a bit of random net surfing, Rhodesian RLI troopies and Selous Scouts. From a company called Under Fire Miniatures
Very nicely detailed minis (I even recognise some of the poses from pictures I've seen of actual soldiers), Only slight negative is they are 20mm, I'd have preferred 28mm as the camo pattern is hard enough at 1/35 scale!

I picked up RLI set 1, RLI 2 & Selous scout 2. Each set has a different number of minis (?) but by mixing them around and pinching one of the scout models I've got three sticks, each with a leader (radio/FN), 2 X FN and an MAG (one is an RPK with drum mag, but looks cool) plus three left over scouts (for doing test paintjobs)

Full marks for doing the Rhodesian cammo... my uncle was in the RAR and I have one of his old jackets and that pattern is not to be attempted lightly!

I am going to have to get some of those. They are stunning

Cheers for the comment, I'm doing a whole 'Fireforce' with these blokes at the mo; got three G-cars and a K-car nearly finished as-well as a Lynx, then another twenty blokes (mixed bag of RLI and aircrew) to paint.
I'll post some pixs once finished. Managed to talk myself out of doing a DC-3 . . .

Thing I prefer about these blokes to the 28mm models by Eureka is they have a much more late war look to them with regard to kit and uniforms.

What model are you using for the Alouette?

DPM and MTP are never quite the same shade so them being darker is'nt a rivet counters issue! very nice figures

@ NealRC: Picked up a few of the 1/72 Revell kit, seems to be a lot popping up on eBay, think I paid approx eight quid a kit inc p&p:

@ Optio : Thanks, I'd recommend these on the amount of detail alone. That said, I'd say they are only any good for a totally current look as they have the mk VII helmet and latest issue armour, even the trousers have the slant pockets. So probably not much use for painting up inDesert DPM.

Whilst reading Mike Hoare's memoirs of his time in the Congolese army in the 1960's I came across these figures by Brittania miniature:

Jeep still needs some weathering

Despite two coats of Vallejo matt varnish and a coat of Dull cote they are still a bit on the reflective side

Got hold of some more 28mm Congo mercenaries, made by Mongrel miniatures but not currently being produced.
Painted them up as a mixed bag of 5 Commando ANC with a few in French lizard camo and a couple of Belgian Paracommandos.

On the 20mm front; following on from a severe cat attack on the Alouette fleet, that resulted in some fairly mashed rotors, I got hold of some little 2mm Neodymium magnets.
All the rotors are now detachable, which also makes for much easier storage:

Those British soldiers are cool. I may have to use them for an IG army at some point in the future.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Read a couple of books about Executive Outcomes recently and decided to have a hunt for suitable minis. The new release generic militia from Under Fire Miniatures looked the part, Soviet weapons etc.
Did a little bit of conversion on some of the webbing, to make it look a bit like SADF recce kit.

I think I saw your plog on Warseer with the RAR and ZANLA stuff, but don't think you put the modern British pieces on there. I've long admired the Empress modern British 28mm, and it's great to see how well they paint up. If I ever have time to play some Force-on-Force, I'll have to get my hands on some.

Glad you like them, the modern Brits are in a separate thread over there (see the sig for links).
I can thoroughly recommend the Empress modern Brits; awesome sculpting, the attention to detail is fantastic. Bear in mind though that they are very modern British; latest version body armour, MkVII helmets ( although pre the no scrim & rubber rims rules), trousers have the slant pockets etc. So they really need to be MTP camo.
Incidentally the sculptor Tony Boustead, also did all the 20mm Rhodesian range for Under Fire miniatures.
