Death-count suspected as being 23 and likely to rise with more than 100 people injured.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

23 dead now apparently.

Hopefully this will be followed by the Russians flattening a few thousand Islamonazi's in response.

Frankly after the Beslan incident I find it hard to get even remotely concerned about any "atrocities" the Russians commit while rooting these vile creatures out.

I wish them the best of luck in finding and crushing utterly the people responsible. The Russians play hardball in comparison to us, so I will take great pleasure in reading a Guardian article about their "heavy handed" response.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

The article hasn't been updated, but Breaking News on the frontpage is saying it's risen to 30.

And, as quick as a porcupine's hiccup, the article is updated and shows 31 confirmed casualties.

Sad, but as I said, after reading about little kids getting bayonetted in the guts at Beslan, this kinda stuff doesnt even touch me now.

I just hope the Russians reply with some of that "excessive force" they are so good at.

Oh, I don't mind about dead people (as heartless as it seems, but not the point) much more than for gauging how heavy the Russian response will be. More deaths = greater chance that Russia will flick the safety off and go in guns blazing.

Sadly,it's incidents such as this that make me believe that the areas that spawn these terrorist should simply be bombed off the face of the planet.

Yeah, unfortunately the sensible rational part of my trained mind tells me that excessive force will only further drive reasonable Muslims into the hands of terrorists and further alienate moderates, but certainly the other side of my brain says to me "wrap them all in pigskins and bury them upside down"

Exactly,I freely admit my initial reaction is a knee jerk "enough is enough..kill them all" response, even though,as you stated,I am aware that sort of reaction only serves to further exacerbate the situation.

Whoever is responsible obviously doesn't know who they are fething with.

Some of Putins statements on the possibility of a public enquiry after Beslan. (Article is from some time ago, I just think it's a good example of his no nonsense attitude)

Done properly, and throwing the politically correct hand wringing dogma aside, a proper conflict which wipes out the willingness to fight would do the job nicely and send the proper message. The radicals will all die in the slaughter and the clever survivors would be those getting the feth out of the way of the whirlwind.
Rinse and repeat.

War is not nice but if it has to be done do it properly.

Eternal Plague

Initial reaction: Tragic. Loss of life is not a welcome thing, especially in explosions and bombings.

Initial reflections: Should be immediate sympathetic responses by major nations.

What will Russia do next?

Does this mean cooperation with other anti-terrorist nations at a more intimate level, or will we not hear anything about that if that does happen?

I think that Russia will thank the other nations then send its forces 'a hunting'.

Wait you people are acting like this is a new thing in Russia. They've been fighting jihadists for decades.

@Frazzled, I think is more because you never hear about this sort of thing coming out of Russia, they tend to keep it to themselves

but I think the russians can handle this

That's part of it. The other part is that you don't see major targets, like a Moscow airport, getting hit. It's usually some backwater where a car bomb was detonated and didn't really inflict casualties beyond the driver and some injuries to passerby.

Previous targets were a school (bloodbath) and I believe the Moscow theater.

It's always sad to see innocents get caught up in this kind of strife. I'm equally as afraid to see what "security" measures russia takes in response. They aren't ones to check who they're shooting at until after it's been done.

I thought all these things after Beslan and it didn't seem like much happened.

Here's to Russia unleashing the beast on these savages.

You obviously haven't paid a tremendous amount of attention to the region then, thousands of people have since "disappeared". The majority of them in some way linked to extremist elements (many linked by familial ties and nothing else). When russia unleashes "the beast" it's never very thoughtfully targeted. They don't have a particularly disciplined security force, and due process is a myth.

Much like any superpower.

But yeah, I'd like to see the perpetrators get a serious kicking over this.

Russia isn't a superpower, it's a corrupt gang state that can't find the perpetrators to kick so it just jails and kills dissenters and reporters to cover it up.

No excuse for that sort of terrorism, but I do wonder at the best solution to it. Negotiation has worked in other places, but perhaps it wouldn't work here.

Chechnya is fighting for independance but going completely the wrong way about it. Terrorism never works. I hope the Russians teach 'em a lesson. Russia have shown numerous times (Beslam high school, the Moscow theatre) that they dont respond well to terrorism, Chechnya should get the message.

Violent crackdowns don't reduce the frequency of terrorist attacks in regions with a strong sense of civil independence and low economic equality, it just spurs on the use of violent measures by the extremists. Short of committing genocide or concession the only way to really prevent these kinds of things is through quality intelligence operations utilizing due process and public trial. Russia won't and can't do any of the above, so this isn't going to stop.
