Hi There,
We have another new Eldar release in this week’s Newsletter, along with an addition to our range of decal sheets. We’re also opening the floor to your questions for a forthcoming designer interview for our YouTube channel, and reservation orders are now being taken for the Forge World Open Day, held at Warhammer World on Sunday the 3rd of April.
Thanks,
Ead Brown
Eldar Wasp Assault Walker
Commonly found amongst the raiding forces of the Eldar Corsairs, the Eldar Wasp Assault Walker confers additional protection and manoeuvrability to the pilot. Jump jets are added to the sturdy War Walker chassis to bolster this already potent weapons platform with deceptively swift movement.
The Eldar Wasp Assault Walker, designed by Will Hayes, is a complete resin and plastic kit. Full background and technical details for this unique addition to the Eldar arsenal will be printed in the forthcoming Imperial Armour Volume 11: The Doom of Mymeara, but as an advanced preview, these experimental rules are available to download.
The Eldar Wasp Assault Walker is available to pre-order now for despatch in the week commencing the 28th February, and we have lots more Eldar releases to come over the next few months so keep an eye out for future Newsletters.
Ultramarines Transfer Sheet
The latest addition to Forge World’s range of A4 decal sheets is this Ultramarines Transfer Sheet designed by Paul Rudge. Packed with over 750 individual squad designations and markings; blazons, chapter heradlry and squad numbers, as well as larger vehicle markings, and three sizes of trim suitable for use on banners or cloak hems, this transfer sheet is perfect for adding individual detail to Ultramarines miniatures.
The Ultramarines Transfer Sheet is available to pre-order now for despatch in the week commencing the 28th of February.
Designer Interviews on the Forge World Visual Feed – Eldar!
With over 10,000 views of our three-part Badab War Interview, we’re planning a series of new interviews to tie into the future release of Imperial Armour Volume 11: The Doom of Mymeara.
The first in this series will feature an interview with the model designer of our forthcoming Phantom Titan, Will Hayes, and the man behind bringing it to life with a superb paint scheme, Phil Stutcinskas.
So if you’ve ever wanted to know how our Eldar releases are taken from a concept sketch to a finished resin kit, or how the colour scheme for the new Eldar Craftworld was devised, then this is your chance to find out. Please send an e-mail entitled ‘Imperial Armour 11 Interview’ to Forgeworld@games-workshop.co.uk, enclosing your name and specifying which designer your question is for.
Forge World Open Day Reservation Orders Now Being Taken
Sunday April 3rd 2011 will see the entire Forge World team descend on Warhammer World here in Nottingham for our annual Open Day, which will again be free to attend.
There will be two studio stands at this year’s Open Day, allowing both the Forge World and Warhammer Forge teams to fully showcase work-in-progress projects, recently released kits and even a few forthcoming models that haven’t yet been announced. Also occupying the two Studio stands will be the Forge World Book Design team, who will be showcasing proof copies of both Imperial Armour Volume 11: The Doom of Mymeara and Tamurkhan: The Throne of Chaos.
We will also be bringing you a sales stand packed with the Forge World and Warhammer Forge range, our Charity Titan Raffle, fantastic participation games and our annual Open Day Painting Competition, which will be judged on the day. Entries should consist of a single Forge World miniature or vehicle, which may be mounted on a display base if you wish.
A Reservation order is the best way of guaranteeing that we’ll have exactly the models you wish to purchase, and as mentioned in previous Newsletters, we are making a few changes to the process to make it easier and more convenient to collect your reservation. We will be taking payment for reservation orders in advance, which will allow us to set up a collection point for these orders that is totally separate from our main Sales stand. This will help to minimise the amount of time spent queuing as you’ll be free to collect your order whenever you like and enjoy the main event.
To place an Open Day reservation, please contact the Forge World Customer Service Team on 0115 916 8177 between 9am and 6pm UK time Monday to Friday and between 9am and 5pm UK time on Saturday.
We will need your name, a contact telephone number and e-mail address, and we will charge your card and provide an order number for your records.
Shortly before the Open Day you’ll receive an e-mail confirmation which you must bring with you in order to collect your reservation. If you have any queries, please either contact us by telephone or send an e-mail to ForgeworldReservations@games-workshop.co.uk.

Cool model but the "Jump Jets" rule seems fairly redundant, especially considering how much War Walkers suck in Assault...
Jump Jets: Instead of moving normally the Wasp may engage its jump
jets. This allows it to travel up to 24” in the movement phase, ignoring
all terrain and models as it does so. It may not land on friendly or enemy
units or difficult/dangerous/impassable terrain. If it uses its jump jets the
Wasp may not fire its weapons, but may assault as norm

Super sexy unit and I give them extra points for not simply using the standard tank canopy and flipping it upside down like the GW walkers.
EDIT: Cool model but the "Jump Jets" rule seems fairly redundant, especially considering how much War Walkers suck in Assault...
I think that's more to get them away from potential assaults...and contesting late in the game.

Nice model. Just use it as an alternate War Walker if you don;t want the rules.
Although a Deep Striking heavy weapons platform in the troops section is interesting...

It's worth any price for a fully enclosed canopy.

Pretty sweet!
It also gets 1 more BS than a War Walker. Is that a typo?
It seems more fitting to be in a Fast Attack slot than a Troops, IMO. Not that it really matters, Eldar don't fill either one.
I wish it were 5 points less, then I'd be sold. As is, it seems nice, definitely playable. But, not a must have.

It's got a bit beefier body, adds the fin on the back to tie it in with FW's revenant titan look and has a different (much better IMHO) canopy. Looks like they have added some guards to the back end of the weapons too.

Its not actually an enclosed canopy. Look at the sides, the pilots arms poke through...
Otherwise, I could make these myself for less money. Buy citadel walker at 20-25% off, scratchbuild/convert roof for canopy (not that hard), buy wraithlord back bit and glue it on there. Only tricky part is finding appropriate pieces for the jump jets. Might need to scratchbuild those, or I can put my CAD skills to use.

The model is beautiful and would work great as regular War Walkers.
The rules, they are TERRIBLE.
#1) It's a troop, so non-scoring vehicle. Nice to have it out of the heavy slot, but um... it's a jump jet walker... why is it not in the Fast slot?
#2) Why would you DS these? You can't fire afterward, so imagine 3 Warwalkers DSing into the middle of the board... they wouldn't survive to shoot.
#3) Why in gods name would you assault with a vehicle with such terrible CC stats?

I don't argue that the rules are pretty crappy, but there's nothing to say you can't fire after DSing them. You can't fire after you do a jump jet move, but there's nothing restricting them from shooting after DSing - just like anybody else DSing.

1) Agreed. If 6th edition allows for all Troops (vehicles and non-vehicles) to score, this makes sense. In 5th, the only advantage is moving them out of the overpopulated Eldar HS slot.
2) You can fire afterward. Walkers have no restriction on movement and shooting. It does present the problem of not being able to Guide them, but it's no different than War Walkers outflanking.
3) Ummm... well, if your opponent is running foot IG and has a giant blob squad without any rending or power fists, then having one of these tarpit the unit for just 45 points would be pretty amazing. But, that's a very rare occurrence to see.

Ah yes sir you are correct, there is no restriction on DSing and shooting for walkers, so that does give them a significant boost.
They are actually a minimum base cost of 55pts since you must take 2 guns. Typical cost will be 75pts per most likely though, and guide isn't a absolute must for these since they are BS4.
1410pts for:
4x 3 Wasps w/ Dual Scatter Lasers
3x 3 War Walkers w/ Dual Scatter lasers could be a giggle and leaves enough room for a skeleton crew on the last two scoring troops and guider HQs
168 str 6 shots with 36" range *rolls on floor laughing*

For +15 points past a standard War Walker, you get the following benefits:
1 - It's not in otherwise overcrowded Heavy Support slot. Although Fast Attack would have made more sense, more Troops is never a complaint.
2 - It replaces Scout with Deep Strike. Rather than outflanking, I can Deep Strike. Not bad at all.
3 - +1 BS. Very useful.
4 - 24" Jump Jets with assault. Not very useful in normal circumstances, but further enhances the standard Eldar tactic of contesting points at the last moment. Plus, you have a 30" charge range to those Guardsmen. Not bad.
It's not a bad "upgrade" from the War Walker for +15pt.
I only wish that they sold a conversion kit for my current unpainted War Walkers so I can cannibalize them. The full canopies are sexy.
Additionally, the FW Newsletter says there is more Eldar stuff coming up. I'm excited!

Moving it from the Heavy section allows a footdar army to really shine. It allows that extra wraithlord to be fielded, or you can finally field 2 wraithlords + Dark Reapers. The 30" assault reach is incredible as well. You have lots of deployment options with these models.

I don't like the 24 inch move plus assault. Tarpitting units on the first turn is a big worry, they'd also be able to shut down heavy support units too.
There is a single consolation for the poor Guardsmen though. - They come with Frag Grenades as standard, so they could potentially glance them to death with strength 4......

Well, given their low population count, skills with warfare, and technology base, you should ask "why aren't their armies made up of Exarchs in jumping War Walkers with guns, power weapons, and force fields"?
|
"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.
