An idea i had that most feral world players would like.
Ps. any idea on the point value would be apreciated.

Hunting dogs........points:?
Evan though dogs aren’t used by the imperial guard there is some feral worlds that hold an ancient tradition of going to war with their canine companions. These traditions have proved to the imperial guard the valuable asset that the dogs bring to the theatre of war. Dogs are natural hunters and make perfect weapons in dense jungles and city fights. It is also becoming a common sight to see dogs that have had surgery under the hands Tec priest of mars so they can function independently under harshness of war.
Hunting dogs are a Troop choice for imperial guard
Unit comp: 9 hunting dogs, 1 cydog

Hunting dog WS 4 BS 0 S 3 T 3 W 1 I 4 A 1 LD 8 SV -/-
Cydog WS 5 BS 0 S 4 T 3 W 2 I 5 A 2 LD 9 SV -/-
Unit type: beast
Wargear: cc weapons (teeth)
Options:
Any dog may take:
Flak armour.........5 points each
Any cydog may take:
Caprace armour.......10 points
Bionic jaw (rendering cc weapon).........10 points
Special rules:
Move trough cover, leaderless, scouts, furious charge
Leaderless: if the cydog is killed than the dogs gain the rage rule.

So tell me what you think.

This idea has exsisted in other places. I believe back in 2nd ed. you could take 'pets' (cyber eagles, etc.)

Nice to see how often this idea pops up on forums...maybe GW will bring them back.

I really like the idea of upgrading the dogs...nice touch.

Actually I really like this.. But I think I would like it more if it was an upgrade for a unit of guardsmen instead of a unit all on its own.

Up to 1 dog per guardsmen.. Same up grads you gave em.. Could add some more CC punch to a squad.

Some sort of night fighting rule would be interesting..

Yeah, this is tastefully done.

Now that I think about it, though, if you wanted to use this unit (more or less) while still working within the codex, this would be a EXCELLENT idea for penal legionnaires.

Of course, you'd have to explain why your dogs have "gunslingers" every once in awhile, but otherwise...

Ws 5 cydog? I love the concept but really hate that, I'd tone it back down to Ws 4. The S4 and extra attacks are good enough.

But otherwise, would LOVE to see this unit

,,,And maybe make them an extra squad for the platoon, not a seperate troops choice. Like a "K-9 Handlers" Special Weapons squad or something...

My catachans would definatly use a squad like this.

And as far as points goes, 6-8 pts. each sounds about right.

I think officers should be able to take 1-3 Dugs. Maybe even two attacks each. Also The custodian for penal legionairres should have the option for 1-3 dugs.

I'd say they'd run about 6-7pts maybe, and about 13-15 for the cydog.

Make a specific squad using a handler like for the penal legion and psykers or like the grot handlers or say an officer could take one or two like the officer in the fourth ultramarines novel they might act like norg deddog but for close combat

I'll try to post what I remember from my version:
points- 50pts per unit
dogs
WS4 BS- S4 T2 I4 A2 W1 Sv- Ld7
move through cover, furious charge, counter-attack.
release the hounds- if a squad is outnumbered 3 to 1 or more, the dogs get +1A per dog that is outnumbering them.
12" movement
hard to hit- 5+ cover save all the time, +1 cover save modifier when in actual cover (stealth).

handler
WS3 BS3 S3 T3 I3 A2 W1 Sv5+ Ld7
lasgun/laspistol, dogcatcher.
dogcatcher- functioning like a smaller variant of the mancatcher, dogcatchers may be used instead of the normal lasgun/laspistol and CCW during that turn, functiooning as a power weapon.
minder- if the handler gets killed, the dogs gain the rage USR.

the handler may take a horse (turns into a rough rider, dogcatcher counts-as a lance)....+15pts (becomes T4 with +1W and +1A)
may take up to 10 additional dogs....7pts per model
unit composition- 1 handler and 5 dogs.
something like that.

i think strength 4 AND furious charge is a bit much Shrike, One or the other. I dont actually like the concept of units i think they would work better as upgrades to command squads or an extra bit of melee punch to penal legionairres.

Sounds good, except: this makes them slighty beeter than Fenrisian wolves, and theres no way that they would be. Also, in regards to how feral worlders would get cyborg dogs; same way they get lasguns, grenades, flak armour, heavy weapons, tanks, etc.

a 30" range assault 1 lasgun? nah. try a shotgun, classic fox-hunting blunderbuss-style. That's what I'm gonna do...
except mine's lead by my company commander...

A squad/pack of dogs, with a guardsmen on a horse in their midst, would look fething GREAT!

You know, I always see these great ideas for armys on forums like Dakka, and theres clearly a big support for its inclusion in the next edition of the codex; but then its like GW just ignores all the feed back. And you know that GWs design team reads these sites!

WTF?
