Yesterday we learned that the rights Blade Runner was getting a sequel or a prequel. We spoke with the producers behind this project, and asked them your burning questions. So, will it be Blade Runner 2 or Blade Runner Origins?

I read that while they have the rights to make sequels and prequels they can not make a remake of the original.

Thank (deity of your choosing, or none if you prefer) for small favors.

Damn...Damn..Damn!!...Why in the name of Roy Batty can't the Vampires in the movie industry just leave good films alone...
And why don't we have an Orkmoticon of an Ork destroying things??

Uhm.... I wont jump on the bandwagon and start NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOing yet. I have seen some sequels actually turn out good. So it can happen. Or we will end up with the Matrix reloaded. And only one cool thing came out of that movie

Damn your logic Ahtman...It's a matter of..a matter of...ok you make an excellent point.
But still...don't writers have any original (or as original as one can get) ideas anymore...I'm sure somewhere there is a fantastic film script just waiting to be made...why go to the " Remake/reimagining/sequel/prequel" well so often?

Like Ahtman says, if it's bad we still have the original, if it's good then we have a decent new sci-fi show.

That said, I really can't see how Bladerunner could be done today. It's got a very 80s feel to it, and I can't see that being replicated today.

Because properties that are already known attract more interest during production and therefore typically attract more bums on seats in the opening weekend.

It's not Hollywood's fault, they're just following the dollars. The problem is ours.

I must...sadly..agree with you, money talks..so to speak...and what it seems to be saying to the film makers is " Please...More of the same...keep that new and interesting idea away from us...we want Transformers V..More CGI and less plot."

Yes, deal with it.

Bladerunner is like Tron.

If you saw it for the first time when it originally came out, you're probably a huge fan and think it's the best thing ever.

If you see it for the first time today, you realize that it's crap.

Yea, I went there.

Wha...???...BladeRunner...Crap??...Really?..You sir are obviously not watching the same film as I,Bladerunner may appear a bit "dated"...but "Crap"?..no indeed, the story remains as great today as it was when the film was released.

Tron on the other hand was and is crap...even with the niffty 3D "reboot".

I saw it for the first time a couple years ago and didn't think much of it. I watched it again recently and liked it a lot more. I wish they'd make more scifi movies like it.

Yeh, I'd like to complain more about other people, but I saw Transformer II at the movies, and I'm here talking about another Bladerunner movie with the rest of you, so it's my fault too.

Bladerunner isn't a flawless movie, in fact it's a very flawed movie, with the variant and most popular ending amongst the fans
Spoiler:
Deckard being a replicant
makes no goddamn sense at all.

But it is still a great movie. The score and visuals evoked an incredible new way of seeing the future (the idea of a darker future was touched on in Ridley Scott's earlier movie Alien, but explored more fully in Bladerunner because it was set on Earth). The film also showed for the first time the themes that are still the standard in sci-fi today - what is humanity?

I'm a fan (I have the briefcase edition) but I prefer to leave the ending ambiguous, or erring on the side of human.

As the youngest guy (15) posting in this thread, I personally feel that Blade Runner has a good aesthetic feel, but it is very dull.

I also thought Total Recall was awful. Deal with it.

LoL i find it fnny you include Total Recall in the same sentence as Blade runner, yes they are both great films but not really comparable in anyway. Blade Runner is great like Citizen Kane, Total Recall is great like... well..erm.. Commando?

If you havent seen blade runner or dont like it fair enough, it can be annoying to be pestered about 'great' films and certain elements are very much of their time for better or worse. I only saw 'fear and loathing in Las vegas' last week.... Thought it was okay but a bit frustratingly aimless.

But...as with the previous comment concerning Tron,Total Recall and Bladerunner where cut from different cloth..if the idea to do a "New" Total Recall was on the table,I wouldn't care,as IMO the original was just another ridiculous Arnold film...of which the 80's had plenty of.
Bladerunner on the other hand was IMO a standout film and he possibility of seeing it "butchered" does bother me (to a degree)...I'd imagine I'd feel the same way if I discovered that " A Clockwork Orange" was going to be "Re-Made".

Supposedly the new Total Recall is going to follow the original story more.

As for Blade runner not holding up, personally I think it looks less dated than the original Tron. I can still watch Blade Runner where Tron has aged too much.

I always saw Tron as more of a "kids" film, even as a child watching it.
More of a Saturday matinee "popcorn" flick than an "Epic sci-fi" movie..
It was, after all,a Disney film...and in the 80's Disney's venture into "Sci-Fi" territory was "less than stellar"...Remember "The Black Hole"?
