Recently I started reading "Helsreach" and I could not put it down. I started it on Monday and I finished it today. So I was wondering, what has been the most gripping and entertaining 40k book you have read?

So, any recommendations on what books to start with? My buddy handed my a rubbermaid tub full of 40k books and said "Here, read up." He's going to be in Afghanistan for the next year, so he's no going to be reading them.

Cadian Blood is boss. Guardsmen fighting down and dirty against Nurgle cultists, zombies, and darker powers. It's really gritty, and well written. I also really enjoyed Flesh and Iron, which was basically Space Vietnam the Book.

Came out a year or two ago. Aaron Dembski-Bowden wrote it. He has since written Helsreach and Soul Hunter. He's considered one of the best BL writers for how few books he's written.

I have yet to dislike anything by ADB or Abnett.
If we are counting omnibuses as one book then my favorite would have to be Eisenhorn, if not then Legion from the HH series.
Although its fantasy not 40k, bloodborn would have to be high on my most-favoritest-books-ever list.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

Cultist of Nurgle with Open Sores
|
I was browsing throught the BL section of my bookshop only yesterday, so this thread is relevant to my interests. I havn't read a GW based novel since I read Ian Watson's Inquisitor and Space Marine novels, many moons ago. I was considering the Horus Heresy series and the Ultramarines omnibus but by the sounds of it I'll have to pick up this Titanicus.
