Went to look at White Wolf as I haven't been there in a couple of months to see if they pulled any april fools, they actually didn't somthing about one of their oldest member of staff joining on April 1st 20yrs ago.

Anyways saw this and it blew my mind, it was announced a couple of weeks back.

White Wolf

Whats in it.

• All thirteen original clans, clan variants and bloodlines, with their signature Disciplines

• Rules for character creation and advancement from Neonate to Methuselah

• All the Disciplines from level one through nine

• Updated setting to the modern nights

• New full color original art by Tim Bradstreet & other classic “Masquerade” artists

• An “open community play test” development process

The Vampire: The Masquerade – 20th Anniversary Edition is a 400+ page ultra prestige edition that includes virtually every clan, bloodline and variant ever produced for the Vampire: The Masquerade game setting and will be available to attendees at The Grand Masquerade 20th Anniversary Convention, September 15-18 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Sounds awesome, and looking through the forums, one of the Developers 'Bill Hicks' have confirmed they are looking at other release options one the Grand Masquerade is over. I really hope they offer a book version, but honestly cannot wait for this.

I just hope Werewolf the Apocalypse gets the same treatment at some point.

So what is it? A PDF file?

From what I've been reading at the forum, at the Grand Masquerade it will be a book. I just hope that's what they put onto general release. I really have a big issue with PDF format, I like my books gosh darn it.

I've steered clear of White Wolf products thus far but a compilation like this might be worthwhile for a non-initiate.

Aye, theres some design blog stuff there, and one makes a note on how 'working on this brought them back in love with the system and now they can see why it's cancellation might have upset a fair few people.'

Seems with the MMO on its way, and sales still dropping for the nwod, they where running out of excuses to not bring back the World of Darkness most people want.

Like I said just hope it continues aloong the rest of the WoD books, and if this sells well, I can't see why it wouldn't.

I've always been put off by the reams of not-so-good (IMO) fiction that fill up their rulebooks. I wonder if that will be included.

Well to be fair Manchu, if your not a fan of Anne Rice and Sonya Blue stuff, this system might not be the best system for you as they where heavily influenced by those works.
If you are though, then I'd say you might want to dig a little deeper if you get the chance.

I personally always found good stuff in there, and I'm not the typical Vampire fan. It was this setting that made me like them, before WoD I had little to no interest in those kind of story themes.

I've never read an Anne Rice book or even seen the films, to be honest. The nearest I've gotten to these products is the NWOD core book, which left me bored. DH/RT/DW aside, these are not the best days for tabletop RPGing. Maybe this re-release will help turn that around more broadly.

Well to be honest if you've only ready a nwod book, seriously, if they come out at a fair price, I'd advise you to try it, or at least flick through it at your local RPG/book store.

I think you might read the back story of this setting, and like a danged fair few of us, wonder what the feth White Wolf where doing when they changed it.

I also bought the mini-board/card game they made a few years back but ended up giving it away.

Didn't Monte Cook do an alternative NWOD?

In any case, I look forward to seeing this develop.

If you only read the core book for nWoD, remember it is really just a backbone for the splatbooks. Think of the splatbooks as equivalent to Dark Heresy or Rogue Trader with the basic basics in a small blue book.

Try reading one of the splatbooks to get a better view of it. Also Vampire is not all there is to nWoD, try reading Changeling. Personally I don't care for vamps at all and only use Changeling and Promethean.

Four scholars at Oxford were making their way down the street, and happened to see a group of ladies of the evening. “What’s this?” said the first. “A jam of tarts?” “Nay,” said the second, “an essay of Trollope’s.” “Rather, a flourish of strumpets,” advanced the third. “No, gentlemen,” concluded the last. “Here we have an anthology of pros.”

I like Changeling a lot.

Manchu, if you wanted to try any Rice, I'd say go with The Vampire Lestat (you can skip right over Interview), then you can read Queen of the Damned and stop. Well, maybe go back for Interview if you really like those two. It's not as good, but it fills in some good backstory. I've read several of her other books, but they're not as good as those two.

Sorry forgot to answer this, yeah Monte Cook did do one. I must admit and hold my hand up that I've never quite know what the difference is. I assumed it was a different RPG ruleset, but my interest never went any further than that.

@Mannahnin, yeah I'd agree with you there, Queen of the Damned is probably my fave, just because I love Akasha, mad girl that she is.

Queen of the Damned, as far as I can tell, is by far her best book. Most of them are pretty bad.

Monte Cooks WOD was the same rules, and a dramatically different setting. I may, stress, may, have stumbled on a pdf copy, and it's kind of a cool re-imagining of the regular WOD stuff. Great if you just want a book to play off of, without having to worry about buying new stuff all the time. I especially enjoy the Mall of America full of zombies.

Ah, and here is me, just getting rid of my 2nd ed WW stuff for a pittance just last week (including book of the wyrm).

I played it in the 90s, ran it for a few years, then my player group just petered out. The books sat unloved and unmourned on my bookshelf for a decade or more.

So the pre-order is up, and omghowthe hellmuch!!!

Nah I suspected it'd be this kind of money, and for what you get, its not really unreasonable.

Going to have to save some pennies and get my pre-order in for this one asap.

Wait, "updated setting to the modern nights"?

Is that good or bad?

Also -- is there still no page count? Not being a Masquerade junky, I don't have a sense of how much $100 is getting me.

Wow. They must really be relying on fanboy blind purchasing of this book with so little information about it.

Don't get me wrong, I have a ton of fond memories in the early to mid nineties of playing Sabbat campaigns. But even my nostalgia cannot really condone spending $100 on a book I likely will only be using for reading material. It not a horrendous price really given today's climate, but you would think they would want to print as many of these as possible and show a small glimpse of what to expect. Just not this small.

It's no wonder WW are not doing so hot, their marketing stinks.

I met my wife at a Vampire Larp. We kinda lost interest once they wiped their entire game line and started over. Hard to believe it's been 20 years though.

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

Pre-ordered mine this morning. Got lucky as a iniative by the European end of the Camarilla, has set up a deal with White Wolf so by buying in bulk, we don't need to pay the postage.

So £63, but well worth it, just to see the update to the plot/setting, and incoporated nwod ruleset. As even with all my nwod issues, the one thing I liked was the tightening of the rules.

Roll on October.

On a side note, White Wolf has slightly extended the pre-order period to the 8th of July for those interested. Once this date has passed thats it, there is a slight chance you'll be able to get a copy via PDF in the future, but the physical books are being printed to demand only.

No worries, and hopefully neither of us will be disappointed when these arrive.

I certainly see a Vampire game taking shape at my home this winter, during those long dark nights.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm used to it) but isn't this storyteller-type game pretty well suited to play-by-post or even PBEM play? You can see what I'm driving at here, old chap.

You could try it that way, the other option would be to look at running something online.

It's certainly an option to consider, and I have been working on a large city and its internal politics for a while. With a bit of dusting up, there are possabilities for some kind of RPG experience.

have commented on stuff on the v20 blog, and cant wait for this. feel like it would be a great capstone to my VTM and VA collection.
if i weigh up the money ive spent on vampire material, and the many days of fun ive had, then this book is a "thank you" purchase.

Would like a chapter that explains all the mysteries though
