I converted this DP for golden demon last year though didn't end up entering it in, can anyone give any more suggestions on converting it or even for a base!, I was thinking of something with blood and skeletons, um and any more suggestions on the painting side will be fantastic.

Here's a Daemon Prince that was painted by Vlad Fayershteyn. He came in 3rd in the '04 L.A. Golden Demon.

It's the closest I could find to a 'stock' DP used as a GD entry.

Notice the shading on the flesh and wings, not to mention the freehand detail and flame effect on the sword.

In contrast, the wings, flesh, and sword of your model look 'flat'. There's not a lot of shading or detail on the individual parts.

Try to learn better methods of shading beyond washes and drybrushing. Wet blending is something I've started learning recently, and it makes my old drybrushed stuff look like crap.

Ok, I haven't actually started painting it yet, I just wanted to know what Dakka thought I should improve or like, add to it. I am hoping to enter this in GD, and event hough I know use are going to give me bad comments, I really couldn't care, all I really want to know is: "What you guys think of the actual conversion"? Not the painting, and Its going to be a blue demon, with silver and gold armour and not sure about the wings yet!

So umm... upon making like 7 threads about DP asking (same) questions ( which were all locked ), did you actually take in any advice from those 7 threads?

It almost seems like you ignored all the advices given by people and just create more of the (same) threads for fun.

But what did you convert on the Demon Prince? Assembling a model isn't a conversion. "Conversion," means that you have taken a stock model and have added or modified it in some way. This can range from simply adding a few bits to a slew of custom sculpted pieces.

From what I can tell you haven't done any conversions on your Demon Prince, you have just assembled it and painted it.

I did listen, and in fact, I did modify it, not convert it, I now see why people at the GW said Dakka is bad, All use do is say mean things, and use are going to completely ignore that and chew me out, I dont give!
All I ever wanted on all my 69 odd topic's was some nice feed back, and the second i put something im really proud of, I get gak advice from, and you know, this was the 1st time I modifyied a model!

The purpose of my prior post was simply to explain what a conversion is, not to appear insulting or condescending. When posting pictures of a model with conversion work done on it, it is wise to then explain what work you did to it as sometimes conversions are so slight or subtle that people fail to notice them at all.

What conversion work did you do on the Demon Prince?

Well, I re postitioned both arms, I Green stuffed the muscles near his waist.I actually dropped the model into hot water so it kind of all melted, so i re-postitioned the whole model, I haven't done a full conversion, i have only modified it to look how i wanted it to look!

See now that we know that, we have a basis on which to judge the model on, because it is painted it was almost impossible to see what had been changed, especially as the plastic DP has a lot of scope for different poses.

I thought so too

Um... Read those threads, actually. That doesn't even look converted, unless I'm missing something. Also, work on shading and highlighting. Plus... put some cool stuff on his base. That'll really make him stand out.

Don't be so modest! Sculpting muscles and cutting/reposing the arms is very much considered conversion work and I can say (in the case of sculpting) is well beyond my humble talents. Nicely done!

With that said, the criticism about the painting is still worthwhile and should be taken constructively so that you can ever improve yourself as a painter. The model isn't poorly painted, it is painted quite nicely actually. The issue that previous posters have is that Golden Daemon represents the absolute best of the best and in order to win or even place you have to be bringing something that doesn't just look great, it has to be completely stunning in every respect. Free-hand work is a good way to accomplish this as is stellar lighting and a characterful pose (this you have already accomplished with your conversion work).

Don't worry about it dude. For my part i think it looks pretty good. I'm not gonna lie I don't think its GD standard but certainly better than many minnis I have seen, I would say try some blending/highlights on the wing areas. I think you have put a lot of effort into the skin/face but in doing so the rest of the parts look very bland. I don't collect chaos but commonly many collectors have good fun with the armour sections as there is room for lots of demonic looking stuff.

Just keep at it, the thing i have found with a DP, I know its not really advice but you want to look at the model and think christ, that thing is MEAN

Btw I am far from that standard also.

You have any pictures of your skull taker? Im sorry but I remember those threads that Luna posted, and it seemed like you didnt take any advice at all. And if you remember, I was one of the few that actually told you to ignore the naysayers and just enter your mini.

I think it's funny that you're bringing up your skulltaker again. I genuinely don't believe that you painted that model. There's some advanced techniques on that model that we've suggested, that you just don't seem to grasp. The base is done quite well on that model, and the fire seems to be done using wetblending or something like that. It just doesn't make sense why you're asking for help when you supposedly can paint quite well. That skulltaker is an impressive model, by most reasonable standards.

I don't believe that it actually got anywhere in GD, but I suppose I'll take your word for it...

King cracker, I know you what you said and I listened to that. And I bought my Skulltaker up because use said that I wouldn't get anywhere far with my DP in golden demon, you may not think i painted the skulltaker, but you wont know. And as a matter of fact I did paint it, how much proof you want????
And I did re-read those comments a million times over and over and over and than I went to the GW and I to,d them that use had given me great advice and they said dont use Dakka there are pricks on it that want to hurt your feelings, I didn't listen to them, but than they showed me how to wet blend, I'm not going to argure. Would you like more photoes?

I just wanted to see pics of it as I didnt remember what the hell it looked like, I see WAY to many minis on this site.

Also, sure, DAKKA has some pricks on it, what internet forum doesnt? But the problem people are having with you, is it feels like you ask the same question numerous times and dont heed the advice. Its annoying when you give someone advice and they just dont seem to take it. I have a niece that does that, and I cant stand that chick. Just sayin
