A fanatic assassin able to move between the bounds of life and death, Thyra, Flame of Sorrow is the peerless commander of the Daughters of the Flame. Her twin swords, Grief and Lament, weave a path of razor-edged destruction through the enemy ranks as she leads her sisters into battle. Thyra has become a living weapon of the Menite cause, her body and soul devoted to avenging the injustices carried out by those who oppose the Creator.

Damn, beat me to it.

She is one damned sexy model. I don't know who they got to sculpt her but they did a fantastic job! I gotta wonder if they some how swiped some sculptors from Rackam after the Confrontation fall out?

See that? That thing just stuffed two other things into that bigger thing! What in Morrow's name is going on?"

Assassin indeed. Only a cartoony "assassin" would hold swords the wrong way.

Or, ya know, walk around in full plate with giant purple banners on their back? Way to avoid notice.

Also, she can control giant steam robots with her mind. Totally unrealistic.

There's a difference between "realistic" and "believable". If the fluff says that she's psychic and can control giant robots, that's fine; it may not be realistic in a real-world analogue, but it's believable in-fluff.

If we're told that a character in plate armor and banners is somehow stealthy, it's both unrealistic and unbelievable. If said character inexplicably holds swords awkwardly, it's the same issue. If there was some fluff reason, any fluff reason (stealth generators, magical banners, etc) for this it'd make sense. For all intents and purposes, holding a sword upside down is comparable to holding a gun sideways; it may look "cool" to anime-fans and rap-fans respectively, but it's just silly to everyone else.

I say cut off the smoke vents and make her a paladin in a DnD game.

Oh Noes! What fools they were to sculpt her holding her swords that way... Truly, no human would wield swords in such a fashion. no doubt they are responsible for misleading this poor fellow...*

*For those disinclined to watch the whole video, the competitor is doing a sword demo, and at around 1:25 he switches one sword and then another to what Aby calls "the wrong way". No doubt the fellow is mortified to do something so foolish, and at the nationals too... Watch it if you can, it's quite impressive.

Does anyone have some pictures of Privateer Press Minis next to a reaper miniature? Some would make nice D&D minis if they were the same scale.

PP and Reaper use very similar scales. On rare occasion I've used PP models for Pathfinder.

I like the model. It doesn't blow me away but it gets the point across. I do think it's pretty sweet that we have a Daughter-caster now. I hope her feat and spell list are very in line with that theme.

Points Painted
Legion: Locks 0
Menoth:33; Casters: 2
Retribution:27; Casters 2
Trollbloods:21; Locks: 2
Mercs/Minions: 2

Actually, the fluff reason would be that its Warcaster Armor. Warcaster Armor can be constructed to make the user faster, (you can design your own warcaster armor using the Iron Kingdoms RPG books, which list specific enhancements) as well as a number of other benefits. If you need "A Wizard Did It!" justification for this, that's exactly what happened.

In a world of magical robots and cannibal dragons, is this really where your suspension of disbelief dumps you off?

This is a very nice model and I hope it's indicative in a turn for PP's wider releases.

Would it be enough to say, "That's how Daughters of the Flame do it?"

Man, makes me sad that I don't like how my Daughters of the Flame
turned out. Time to paint a second batch!

While I watched it, and was impressed, some flashy display still doesn't make me anymore inclined to believe you'd actually in anyway remotely fight tike that.

Just playing devil's advocate here. Sorry for the OT.

It makes it even worse that model has basket hilts on the swords
It's typical Menoth to me, not a style I like personally, but this and the recent cryx guy, have slowly drove back the numbers of poor releases recently from PP imho.

Obviously not a martial artist, huh? He's in a competition in the film, so everything he does would have to be within the spirit of the martial art he's practicing for him to be scored well at all. While a competator is given some leway for a creative competition, they would still be expected to use the basics. So, if the "backwards" sword style doesn't fit your idea of a dual sword style, the video proves that it is accepted. While I don't know that style, the fact that it is allowed in competition proves that some sword master thinks its a good idea. With blades reversed it would be possible to hide the fact that one has a sword, with the arm, and "assasinate" an unsuspecting victim. Just because you're not "inclined to believe" something that you, apparently, know nothing about, that doesn't mean your lack of belief is accurate. Just sayin...

As to the model, she rocks.

I like the model, apart from the hat. A common theme for Menoth miniatures, unfortunately.

That's not what he said. Not all martial arts are equal: some are meant to be performed for fitness or entertainment, and some are meant to be performed to win fights.

Like her, nice pose and detail.

Now I´m actually torn whether I should get Amon or her as my next Warcaster. Well, I´ll wait for her rules.

Depends. Do you want an infantry caster or a jack caster? With Carnage on her spell list (spoiled by her concept art), she'll do an excellent job of making everything in her army a lot more accurate, so will benefit from large quantities of infantry. Amon, on the other hand, doesn't do squat for anything but his Warjacks. Also, from Thyra's description she also sounds like she might have Avatar of Slaughter on her list, and (longshot) be able to hand out Vengeance.

Yeah, I know I´m torn between apples and oranges

The thing is, I´m a collector/painter first and gamer second since I can spend more time painting and looking at my minis than actually playing (I get more games done with WarmaHordes than with WHFB though). I choose my models mainly based on looks, and then I build lists with what I have or plan my next purchases based on that.

Amon and now Thrya are simply the most appealing Warcaster models Menoth has in my eyes.

Jack caster lists means a lot less models to paint and lot more room to go crazy on the paintjobs

You're taking the word Assassin too literally here. It doesn't mean that she's a ninja or stealthy killer. In WM, an assassin caster just means she's specialized at killing the opponents caster rather than being great with Warjacks or buffing infantry.

@shellfish

in fairness to Absolutionis...the Daughers of the Flame ARE assassinsso Thrya is an assassin as well

but doesnt mean they have to be stealthy about it though.

John Wilkes Booth for example. nothing stealthy about what he did but hes still an assassin

Of course she's holding her swords "backwards" it's a perfectly acceptable and practical way to hold them when you're stabbing someone who's been knocked down, in proper warmachine fashion.

<Rarity> I am not whining, I am complaining! Do you want to hear whining?

Thiiis is whiiiiining! Oooo, this mini is too expeennsive! I'm' going brrookee! Can't you make it cheaper? Oh, it's resin and not metal anymore! Why didn't you take it off the sprue first? That's gonna leave a pour spout, and the FLGS is so far away, WHY DO I HAVE TO SUPPORT IIIIIIIT?! </Rairty>
