Marion Zimmer Bradley's darkover is a -very- long Sci-fi series, set on a lost colony planet, where the colonists royal families have developed psi powers. Main novesls in the series "The Heritige of Hastur" and "Sharra's Exile" involve the use/abuse of an incredably powerfull power crystal, dedicated to a fire goddess. The weilder of the crystal, is a woman named Thyra

Thiiis is whiiiiining! Oooo, this mini is too expeennsive! I'm' going brrookee! Can't you make it cheaper? Oh, it's resin and not metal anymore! Why didn't you take it off the sprue first? That's gonna leave a pour spout, and the FLGS is so far away, WHY DO I HAVE TO SUPPORT IIIIIIIT?! </Rairty>

another PP model that is wielding a sword that looks as if it will do blunt force trauma rather than actually cut someone.

Assassin in plate, with banners and bright colors. Nope, nothing wrong there. "Stealthy" - now meaning visible to all. Reminds me of the discussions with someone who wanted a scout dreadnought.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, if the goal of an assassin is to blend in, wouldn't it behoove said assassin to, you know, look like everyone else in the army?

Or is it not an assassin unless it's dressed like a stage hand?

Then again, you're right, she doesn't look like much of an assassin...

Well, historically, that -was- how you dealt with a heavilly armored opponent... I think IK has a rather lot of those...

Oh Noes! What fools they were to sculpt her holding her swords that way... Truly, no human would wield swords in such a fashion. no doubt they are responsible for misleading this poor fellow...*

*For those disinclined to watch the whole video, the competitor is doing a sword demo, and at around 1:25 he switches one sword and then another to what Aby calls "the wrong way". No doubt the fellow is mortified to do something so foolish, and at the nationals too... Watch it if you can, it's quite impressive.

There's holding a blade in reverse grip (like the performer in the video), and then there's holding it reverse grip with the blade facing towards yourself like the model...

She's spinning, duh. That's what I do when I hold my assassin
blades.

It's entirely possible I'm seeing it wrong, but it looks like the blade of the sword in her right hand is backwards. The hand guard faces one direction, but the blade faces the opposite, which is back towards her own body. If she were spinning, she'd either slash herself, or hit them with the back edge of the blade.

That's because she's so bad ass, she doesn't NEED to hit them with the blade, just like Epic Magnus.

Which would be bad because... it would allow her to shift the primary motive force to her triceps, trapezius and latissimus muscles instead of her biceps and pectorals?
