So what you think that they will improve?
I think that they will add few more battles in Tau history.
Demiurg will maybe be included with Tau fleet or even land troops.
Some new rules and in the end preparation for 4'th phase of expansion.

You know, all they really need to improve is the amount of firepower we can put on the table, so we can actually have a chance to kill stuff before it gets into krumping range.
And ethereals
And skyrays
And the named HQ's

It's 5th or 4th, no apostrophe.
I played a game against Tau where my opponent flubbed the rules and I let him run with it. Basically, Fire Warriors would still rapid fire at 12", but could shoot at 30" on the move. It made for a more mobile and dynamic army. I don't see it happening for Tau, but it made things interesting.

Ethereals that's for sure, i dont really know how they will improve but it has been said they will play a better rol (i cant remember where i read this so dont ask). More special characters (Hopefully a kroot one) and I keep the hope to see XV9s and some better Farsaight rules (please flying spaguetti monster a XV8 unit configured for hit and run combat...and power weapon)

Is the Tau 5th edition codex on the way?
Or are we making a wishlist?
If so more units with a BS of 4 would make me happy.
I would like to see the Kroot get some love, maybe get something like the Counter Attack special rule.
Fluffwise I would love to see the Tau develop some better warp travel. I would like to see them expand out from their little corner of the Universe.

GK codex has been released so - who knows?
Fluffwise I would love to see the Tau develop some better warp travel. I would like to see them expand out from their little corner of the Universe.
And I think that will not happened soon enough... When I see the galaxy Tau are much better where they are. And they don't want to face the true might of the Imperium ( like Orks on Armageddon or Chaos on Cadia ).

Pure guesswork, based on current GW codex designs:
-More special characters, obviously. Aun'shi might make a comeback. OTOH, Aun'va is so failed character and concept that I figure he will be removed.
-I don't think Fire Warriors are going to get a signifant points reduction. Only few armies have basic troops cheaper than 60pts minimum squad. Possibly, Shas'ui will be always included in that cost. I'm also pretty sure they will get some special rules, like Guardsmen have.
-some Forge World units obviously will be moved to basic Codex. Tetras and Knarlocs seem obvious at least.
-Markerlights will probably see some changes, at minimum, the difference between regular and networked ML's will be removed.

Better drones would be nice (maybe better BS or more weapon options).
Repair drones like Tech marines would be nice, maybe even the option of vehicles taking them instead of gun drones.
Or a medic drone for FNP or wound healing could be cool.

They always present new units. I dare you to find a 40k codex that hasn't added new units recently. A new campaign, I don't see happening. Unless of course you mean fluff of a bygone campaign, and not actual rules to play one.

Power weapon options for Battle suits...? I know its totally against the fluff but GW is real big on effing fluff up anyway so who cares, i wanna see the Tau start rocking on the table top, and they need general BS 4, i mean come on, an army that wont shut up about how ranged combat is their bread and butter running off mostly BS 3...not funny! And i think They need SOMETHING that wont die in two seconds to a Marine squad on the Charge...And a Gundam-like Walker would be pretty cool too Automatically Appended Next Post: That last Part is just something i'd like to see..

Power weapon options (or just close combat options) would suit a Farsight Enclave list down to the ground; perhaps have a rule like "If your army contains Commander Farsight then your battlesuits may choose from the following upgrades:".
The trouble with BS is that Tau are better at ranged combat than guardsman, but not as good as marines (bar battlesuits due to enhanced HUDs and systems that would work to replicate a space marine's power armour); however in a system where Guardsmen are BS3 and Marines are BS4, where does a unit in the middle fit?
FWs cost too much, which is something that a lot of people have said but warrants repeating. A unit that crumples in combat against even the worst CC unit, has to pay for grenades and can carry nothing more than a Pulse Rifle or the sub-par Carbine (with Ld9/10 being gifted to every unit nowadays, the pinning isn't worth much) that places you dangerously close to enemies is not worth 10pts.
Taken from a list on the army list forum is:
Infantry Squad, Autocannon HWT, Grenade Launcher- 65
Dunno how many guardsmen (guessing about 5+), but they can have an autocannon and a grenade launcher plus an almost identical statline (they have better WS and I but we have a better AS, only by 1 though) for only 5pts more than we can have 6 FWs with no upgrades whatsoever, we don't even get a squad leader included in ours.
When you can buy upgrades for a unit with almost the exact same statline as a unit that costs similar to simply become legal, you know something is wrong.

Actually tau helmets contain various pieces of tech that assist them when trying to see and locate targets. It's practically the same as a marines, but if your going off the marine standard then why do guard veterans have bs 4 but tau, who never ever train for melee, still have bs 3?

Keep in mind the only Tau units with a BS above 3 standard are Hammerheads, Sniper Drone Spotters, and HQ Crisis Suits, and two of those only have a score above 3 because the model is equipped with a Targeting Array. All battle suits, Stealth, Crisis, and Broadsides should have a BS of 4 standard. Those units are supposed to be both veterans and in suits that are supposed to have targeting systems.
I could live with Fire Warriors having a BS of 3 if they had some way to get their BS up to 4 with wargear. Something like Shas'ui being able to buy a targeting array for the squad would be nice.

Truth.
There are only a few ways to get a Markerlight on the table. You can put one on Sergent equivalents for 10 points (one shot per squad), pay at least 128 points for a pathfinder squad (4 shot minimum 8 shot max at 176 w/out extra wargear), or some of the special options for networked marker lights (like marker drones which are 30 points at least). Even if you have markerlights on the table you still have to hit with them, which are being shot at a BS of 3.

While I agree that fire warriors should stay BS3, pathfinders and certainly suits should have BS4. Maybe allow pathfinders split fire so that the player isn't forced to max out on them.

Weapon upgrades for firewarriors would be nice as they are one of the few troop choices in the game that can't take some form of special or heavy weapon, which makes little sense they are one of the shootier armies.
An HQ option that would make suits or pathfinders count as troops

Water-Caste Negotiator
|
1. Free Sgt. on the Fire Warriors: change Shas'la ld. to 8 and Shas'ui leadership to 9. Make Pulse Carbines Assault 2. Give defensive grenades for free. Eliminate EMP grenades.
2. Cheaper Devilfish.
3. Make Crisis Suits BS 4 as base, with the targeting array upgrading them to BS 5. Allow Commanders to go higher than BS 5 with Targeting Arrays.
4. Move Pathfinders to troops and eliminate the required Devilfish.
5. Provide some kind of Psychic defense, maybe on the Ethereals.
6. If Commander Farsight is included in your army, Crisis suits may be equipped with: Powerblade- Counts as a power weapon and provides 2d6 armor pen. in close combat.
7. On a related note to #6, Farsight improves the WS and I of all TAU units in the army by +1 (this doesn't help Kroot, Vespid, etc, not that they can join an army with Farsight anyway).
7a. On a related note to #7, loosen the restrictions on Farsight's army. Keep auxillaries disallowed, but get rid of the 0-1 restrictions on the Tau units.
7b. Make Shadowsun not suck somehow.
8. Reduce the price of Stealth Suits or make them useful some other way.
9. Make the Skyray not suck somehow.
10. Reduce the price of Marker Drones and equip them with a default Targeting Array. Maybe have them carry a TL- Networked Markerlight.
11. Give Broadsides a second hardpoint and Crisis Suits a fourth hardpoint.
12. Don't require all hardpoints to be filled- ex. a crisis suit with only a Missile Pod and Targeting Array would be legal (if probably a poor idea).
13. Reduce the price of the Hammerhead a little bit, but leave Railgun alone.
14. Make Vespids not suck somehow.
15. Introduce a kind of weapon-platform based squad, like a squad of Fire Warriors with antigrav platform heavy weapons. Sort of like Guardian Defenders, but good.
16. Maybe introduce Human auxillaries to act as a horde infantry choice.
