It depends how you want to go. Do you just want to take what ever units you like or do you want to try for a competitive build? If so check out 'foot-dar' or 'mech-dar' type lists.

The battleforce saddles you with a bunch of Guardians, who you might not want. A solid Eldar force is Dire Avengers and Fire Dragons in Wave Serpents with War Walkers or Fire Prisms for heavy support. A farseer to lead the army and you're good to go.

As an army, they take a bit of finesse to play. They are fast, with decent mech and shooting, but can get wrecked in assault. Please note this mainly comes from fighting against them in 40k, and with them in Epic Armageddon. They have great fluff, unique abilities, and are actually very good..

A Saim Hann Jetbike army isn't bad either, I've been ale to win a good amount of games with them up on Vassal. It is a very expensive army though, since they only sell jetbikes in singles.

If you enjoy painting go for it. Having played 18 months of eldar you have 2 good build - all involve eldrad.
You may not win tournaments, but will enjoy painting and when they're redone in a couple of years enjoy yourself

The way I see it, Eldar have a few competitive styles.
Elite army-almost entirely aspect warriors
Troop army- many, many guardians.
Mech-dar- wave serpents all over the place! Hit-and-run!

Put aspects in Wave Serpents and you're good to go. I don't like footdar; a bunch of T3 models in the open? That seems like ducks at a firing range to me.

Here is a decent mech Eldar army that you can make using every model from the battle force. (90) Farseer- Guide, Runes of Warding (80) 5 Fire Dragons (100) Wave Serpent- tl shuri cannon (130) 10 Guardians + Warlock- missile, embolden (120) Wave Serpent- tl missile (60) 5 Dire Avengers (180) Falcon- missile, holofields, spirit stones (120) 2 War Walkers- 2x scatter laser (120) 2 War Walkers- 2x scatter laser Guide seer can sit in the falcon with the Dire Avengers. Then guide the falcon or one of the War Walker Squadrons. Whatever is most beneficial. Guardians make ok mechanized units. They are cheap, and their heavy weapon can match the range of their serpent's. an Embolden Warlock helps make sure they don't flee off the board if they get shot at. Storm Guardians and Bladestorming Dire Avengers are better mechanized units- but you only get 5 with the battle force don't ya! I went with missiles as it means you can do your shooting from 48 inches- the safest possible distance! So lets look at total out of cost expense for this. in terms of what kits you'd need to buy 1 Battle Force 1 Farseer 1 Warlock 1 Wave Serpent 1 Falcon 3x War Walker Not too bad. And you make full use of everything in the battle force! EDIT: removed dollar amounts- meh weren't that helpful anyway.

They're not supposed to have heavy weapons. If striking scorpions had las-cannons, it would be weird. They are melee. melee.

If you're going with that list, get 2 battleforce boxes.
You get 2 warwalkers and 2 wave serpents.
You'll also get guardian weapon playforms for the heavy weapons, used by the walkers.
You can also up the DA squad to 10.
It's a couple of quid more than getting a WW and WS seperately, but the extra heavy weapons would cost that as bitz anyway.
The cheapest I've seen the BF box is £41 and pence.

With reference to the colour scheme, check out the Internet to find one that appeals, or create your own.
Simple two and three colour schemes seem to work best. One main colour for all the body armour and then two others that set off the main colour for all the details/weapons.
Keep it simple and you can't go far wrong!

As to suggesting how to paint your Eldar, or indeed any army, you should first be asked...
What is your favorite color?!?
Then work from there.

What he said. This is actually very good advice. The list I posted could really be from almost any Craftworld. If you don't want to home brew your color scheme the back of the Eldar Codex has a variety of different examples of paint schemes.
Don't feel pidgin holed into anything though. Just cause you like the way Alaitoc looks doesn't mean you need to field Pathfinders. Most players are just happy to see a painted army on the other side, and don't care if the Iyanden painted Eldar aren't fielding any wraithguard.

I don't think you understood the criticism. All aspect warriors fails because of that drawback. It's not something that should be given to them, since other parts of the army have it and can support them. Thus, all aspect warriors isn't a good idea because you aren't covering their weakness with other units. For example, putting them in transports with some heavier weapons, given them heavy weapon supprt and mobility. Without said support, all aspect warrior armies aren't very good.
This, however, turns them into mechdar.

How well do aspect armies work when teamed with weapon batteries?
It leaves the mech out, and lets the aspects to run amok across the battlefield.
I'm guessing the addition of heavy-type weapons that aspects can get are not good enough? Swooping Hawks get haywire grenades, and the Striking Scorpion exarch can get the claw. Are they no use in place of bright lances and scatter lasers?

actually path of the warrior took place on alaitoc...
Iyanden was actually my first army and is still my favourite, but fluff-wise its more foot-dar than mech-dar as wraithguard doent really go with transports (too costly for too few) or spect-dar as iyanden is meant to rely on wraithguard for its army after they all were nom'd by the kraken
and i love the colour scheme
