I'm posting this in the 40k forums because this is the forum I participate in and the location of the subject at hand.

I find myself frequenting these forums, and for the most part they are fun, engaging, and helpful. I'm nearly to the point of satisfaction that donating 25$ is a possibility. As of late though I have observed some moderation that is rather overtly biased and in my humble opinion, rather toxic to the community. I considered opening a dialogue with this person in private messages, but after further consideration I came to the conclusion that it would be a waste of my time and would possibly endanger my account. Is there any recourse, is there a "manager of mods" that can be reached? It does not seem fair that one person can ruin the fun of many on a fairly lucrative website.

Dude, I have to say, just talk to that person openly about your issues....you might also want to take a look at what you might be doing or saying to draw this persons negative interest, I mean, this isn't like a playground where your face just don't fit, in a pretty much anonymous web forum, theres no smoke without fire.

Also, you're not going to get in trouble if you message the mod team if you think you (or someone else) is being treated unfairly. As long as you are polite and calm, we do like to work things out. We're not out to be antagonists; we just want Dakka to be a fun place for people to read and post.

One thing that contributes to a feeling of unfairness is that oftentimes our moderation is behind the scenes. In many cases, we warn people via PM, not in public, so no one else sees the messages. If two people get a warning about the same thing, it may seem unfair to each of them as they feel like they are the only one being singled out.

If you'd like, feel free to PM me about this. I will NOT hold this against you, and I may be able to shed some light on the situation. Kilkrazy is generally pretty laid-back, so I'm surprised to hear this.

Movac, I had a look at your posting history and it's a fairly easy guess as to why you're unhappy.

Have a look through some of the older threads on this subject and you can see why things got easily out of hand. Easiest for all that the thread was simply locked. Don't worry give it a couple of weeks and someone else will probably start the exact same subject and attract the exact same trolling that took place in yours. For a while you may get a sensible conversation, but then....

OT. One thing that gets me about such a topic as yours, they all start off the same way about how some Tau player is spouting off about how uber the Tau are, but it never seems, to me at least, to originate here. If you have a problem with a Tau player say to them direct, as any issues you have with the subject, that get brought up here, only gets trolled/flamed/locked and not necessarily in that order.

KC and all the other present MODS are really cool, understanding people. Don't hesitate to just talk to them.

They are only human, and sometimes biases will show through, but I can guarantee you that if an issue is raised they will go out of their way to resolve it in a reasonable and open way.

That doesn't mean they will neccesarily agree with you, but it does mean they will be happy to discuss it in a non-patronizing and non-aggressive way. Mods don't become mods for having a history of being d-bags after all lol.

Some are more... to the point... than others, but the current team is exceptionally even handed and non-elitist if you ask me.

But for srs, just PM the mod in question. As long as you're not a total toolbox, you should be alright. After all, they can't be that touchy, can they?

Yeah, the mods don't put messages like that from what I've seen. Bans/suspensions aren't really discussed in public.

I kind of wish there was a place you could go take a look and see who is banned temporarily. Normally, you just notice after a few weeks that you haven't seen a post by so and so for a while. It took me a few weeks to notice that gwar wasn't popping up in YMDC and I just noticed last week that JohnHwang's porno avatar hasn't been around.

All Jest aside. I have seen how unprofessional those sites can be. One of the main reasons I am in this site are the moderators. They are a pretty fair bunch. I have been to other major sites before making this my main one to stay in.

This site has the reputation it's earned for a reason.

As others have mentioned, you could PM Yakface, but it's also not so well kept a secret that his attitude is generally somewhere along the lines of "if you don't like it, get out."

I think the moderation is pretty good here.

You have to go pretty far out of your way to get in trouble.

So instead pming the mod in question like a big boy you create a public thread? Stay classy op

Why does this topic still exist? It seems to me to be nothing but a poorly disguised personal attack on another forum member. Which should have been settled in PM.

I always thought this was a valid concern, but doing the opposite seems to be a problem, too- a list of disciplinary actions or the like would seem to cause possibly even more problems than keeping it confidential. Not that I have a say in this part... but I do think about it.

Also, JHDD just doesn't post much lately, from what I can tell... he is definitely able to if he chooses to do so.

So, yeah... suggestions are from what I've seen very welcome, especially if you think it through and present it well so that it can be easily adopted. However, I don't see a good alternative to confidential moderation.

Have you considered PMing CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT? I find that when I have problems with a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT that a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT can be highly beneficial.

Sorry OP but I think you must have miscontrued something along the way, I can't think of a MOD that gives a more considered opinion on Dakka than Kilkrazy.
