Was thinking of making this a poll, but their would be just too many to choose from, so we can just comment with reasons.

There are so many awesome weapons in 40k, the bright lance, dark lance, lascannon, Battle cannon, shokk attack gun, plasma cannon, Plasma destroyer. All of which spark the imagination. However, for me, no weapon seems to ooze awesomeness like the Assault Cannon. Sure it is not the best weapon out there (although it is pretty good), but it is just the image of a rotating barrel spilling bullets out at a fantastic rate and ripping through infantry and light vehicles that just gives me a smile.

So, what about everyone else? Which weapon stimulates the imagination the most?

Combi-melta, I love that gun, just looks so bad ass in a little marines hands!

Heavy bolter.

Fluff wise: terminator assault cannon.
Gameplay wise: flamers, no cover save is just ouch.
Looks wise: battlecannon on a LRBT.

In terms of looks, assault cannon or punisher cannon.
In terms of in-game use, meltas or autocannons.

I would say the SAG is my favourite. Theres just so much humour associated with it and because you never know whats gonna happen, that just adds to the fun.

Gotta be the Rail Rifle, the image of a Fire Warrior sniping a marine with a beam taking his head clean off and then carrying on and killing another is just awesome...

Distortion Cannon, no doubt. It is just as shame it isn't found on many things in the codex.

The old stinger was quite hilarious though.

Punisher cannon or the Heavy Bolter. I love the image of the LMBT holding off hordes of enemies using it, and the image of a Chaos Space Marine using a Heavy Bolter is awesome.

Spinnaret rifle. It's like a long range Harlequins kiss.

I'm also gonna go with SAG

for pure fun it looks awsome. it opens a hole in the warp and mutates a snotling to shoot out the other end and basically comes out ripping apart things under a template after being mutated by the warp to varying strength... unless you get doubles then let the hilarity ensue could blow himself up, could launch the big mek into an assault... or could remove models from the game just to name a few

also i liek deffguns alot D-3 shots str7 ap4 at 15 points per model... yes please

Railgun. It just gets the job done.

Devourers otherwise.

Plasma gun. It's just such a boss gun. That's why I run a 4 Plasma + 1 Plasma Pistol Command Squad as IG. High Risk, High Return.

Plasma weaponry,

Railgun. The solid projectile is moving so fast the air ignites. I vaguely recall a story somewhere...maybe the original Tau codex...of a railgun shell penetrating a rhino through and through; the story continues by mentioning that the shell was travelling so fast that marine occupants were sucked through the small exit hole as the projectile passed through.

That's just mean.

Graviton gun would be nice. Or that ring John Grammaticus received from the Cabal.

Oh screw it. Vortex Missile.

fluffwise? Reaper Autocannon is pretty cool, or the BlastMaster. Why yes, my single bass solo just wiped out a Imperial Guardsmen squad.


Ingame? Gotta hand it down to the autocannon or melta gun. Or Manticore missles

Psycannons most definitely have ammunition. Extremely difficult to obtain and to manufacture ammunition.

Vulkan mega bolter, for when you absolutley, positively must fill the air with as much exploding lead as possible.

Digital weapons... neural disruptor... meltagun... sniper-las, hellgun. Argh! so hard to choose!

Executioner cannon Bye bye space marines (of any colour and spikiness )

It has to be a lascannon, epic range, epic damage, what else could you want for a gun apart good looks, which the lascannon has
