Hi, I did a quick search and couldn't find anything like this so which is your favourite videogaming genre? Feel free to tell us why below or if you cose other; which genre you like.

My favourite has to be RPG simply because they're usually best value for money; I'm the sort of person who actually spend time decorating my house on fallout. In Fallout 3, I collected random 'souvenirs' from all the major missions (vault 101 outfit from start, Chinese sword from Op. Anchorage, Alien Blaster from Mothership Zeta, etc.) I did this for every major mission and every DLC main mission and then I assorted them all in that empty small room at the top of the stairs in the megaton house. then I could sit down in there and just look at them all and remember. That's why I love RPGs; because I'm able to put a ridiculous amount of time into them.

I don't have a aprticular favorite though i tend to enjoy RPGs a lot though i like FPS for the multiplayer...
I like playing Racing games and RTS but i am very very bad at them...

I haven't voted as yet, as frankly I'm having a hard time picking.

Roleplaying Games, thought MMO's had pipped them for a while, but after falling in love with Mass Effect and ME2 in the last year, I'm torn.

MMO, have enjoyed everyone I have tried, WoW has had me the longest, although I'm on a break at the mo, I've been playing it since Dec 06. WaR and Everquest 2 where also fun for a while, and I play Champions Online via free trial now and then. (Although I'd rather CoX had a constant free trial if I'm honest, prefer it over Champions.)

Turn based Strategy Games are close to my heart, with games like Civilisation 2, Warsong, Shining Force and Disgaea have all had my attention at some point.

Plus FPS, although this is probably just behind the other three, but when I start one, I'll not put it down till its done. Halo series is my fave at the moment, but I have an silly amount of time put into Doom back during my PS1 days.

Will have to have a think. I think RPG is edging it, but its a close one.

I'm having a tough time choosing. For each genre there's always been a game that has me going 'I'm gonna play only these from now on!' haha

oh yeah.. would you put Fighting games in the same category as Beat em ups? When I think Beat em ups I think of Final Fight and Fighting Force. Are you throwing games like Street Fighter or Soul Calibur in with that mix?

Yeah, sorry, I didn't think to split them up as I never play them as I can't stand fighting or beat 'em up games so I can never tell the difference.

*Cough*ace combat series*Cough* They are considred arcade stye flying i think.

RPGs are imo the best game type ever.

While there are some classics iv probly missed, The Elder Scrolls series and Fable(the 1st one) made me love the RPG genre so much.

Are you considering fighting games such as MK and SF to be "beat em up's?" If so, I'd have to say those were when I was younger, but now it's action RPGs that I love (Final Fantasy can suck it). Borderlands, Champions of Norrath, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, etc. Going back to the "beat em up's," I took those to be platform style 'run forward, hit the enemy and kill him, then keep going' games-like the 90s xmen game, ninja turtles, battletoads, spiderman, simpsons, etc.

You missed of Fighting Games (which is a massive hole to leave).

And shmups but they might fall under TPS since they technically are in a way...

What about puzzle?

RPGs for me by far and away.
Pity good ones are few and far between.

As a skinnerbox game?

I enjoy FPS, RPG and RTS. But I love to play FPS the most.
Aldo, in last few year I play RTS more and more...

I must say RPG. Mass Effect was great(ME 2 wasn´t RPG, at least not in traditional sense). Bioware makes really good RPGs, but DA: Origins was little bit too long( played it over 100hours)

Aye I've gone for RPG's, has to be really, the games that have sucked up most of my time have been RPG's in some form or another. Hell even some of those I listed from other genres, where RPG's in they're own way.

With Skyrim and ME3 due in the next 12 months, I see a lot of time going towards the genre once again.

Ok, I seem to have missed fighter games (due to the fact that I hate them so I forget about them easily), other simulations, puzzle games and casual games. maybe the list isn't as thorough as I thought it was. How the hell did I forget Puzzle games? I love Portal.

Wow comes under MMO's

Don't have a single favourite, I like most thing except forpuzzling and action/adventure stuff.

Horror
Sci-Fi
Fantasy
Historical (many depending on time periods)
Martial Arts
Romance
etc.

This way, we can divide two types of 'genre'. One for gameplay, one for traditional genre.

This means you can have:

Sci-Fi RTS (e.g. Starcraft)
Fantasy RTS (e.g. Warcraft)
Historical RTS (e.g. Age of Empires)
Martial Arts Fighting (e.g. Street Fighter)
Horror Adventure (probably what I would call most 'horror' games; you can get horror games in other gameplay models)

This leaves us open for many different possible types of game to be made! Like a Romance RTS.

Just realised I missed JRPG (Japanese RPG) as well.

You put RPGs in, that's good enough for both.

In fact, they both come from Tabletop ones, and originally were sort of translations of that sort of game to computers at the time.

In Japan, the JRPG was first a translation of that into a form that fits consoles well, but following through the normal Japanese structure. (Compare Japanese and Western shooters at the time, Japanese ones were following through a track travelling on a path while Western ones were more 'arena' based; but both are considered shooters).

TBS games pretty much have it in the bag for me. Despite being years old, I still find myself playing games like:

X-Com
Masters of Orion II
Masters of Magic
Heroes of Might and Magic (the whole series)
Just started in on King's Bounty
Age of Wonders I/II

Ahhhh a Skinner Box, yeah when that new Tier 467 Warlock set gets previewed I start salivating like a Great Dane!

I picked RTS. Mainly because of the hours wasted playing Rise and Fall against my brothers.
