And it wasn't bad. It wasn't exactly "Band of Brothers"--but it was no "Earth 2" either.

This is being advertised on Scfy at the moment in the UK, think it starts July 5th if I remember right.

It's very...generic, I guess is the best word.

It's kind of like "The Roughneck Chronicles" to give the most apt analogy. There's some really dark concepts explored(the "We were only following orders" part, for example, with the Skinnies) but they're couched in a very PG manner.

Got it on the DVR for me and the GF to watch on saturday. I'm pretty much expecting it to be Red Dawn In Space, On Earth: The Series. Really hoping it doesn't suck but I have little faith in hollywood these days :(

It's not that corny, Necros.

But there's very little blood/gore and the subject matter is clearly 'toned down' compared to what Spielberg was touting originally.

What was he touting originally?

That it was going to be the "Saving Private Ryan"/"Band of Brothers" of alien invasion films.

It's fun trying to find the remarks again, because he retracted them shortly after and cited confidentiality reasons for his now in limbo Fox tv show.

Sounds like what Blood and Chrome is supposed to be. Of course, didn't Battlefield LA cover a lot of that?

Yes and no.

I caught the premiere, hoping that it picks up though. The show has potential.

I liked the first 2.

There is a lot of possibility for this setup so heres to hoping!

I liked it a lot, kinda reminded me of a toned-down The Walking Dead, with aliens instead of zombies.

I wasn't overly impressed, the aliens look silly. I'm still upset that V wasn't even good enough to get to the actual invasion phase. Ever since lost people just try to drag everything out, its very annoying. V made it 2 seasons of just hovering above the cities.

Thats why I stopped watching the show. Christ just get to the point already. Shows like that piss me off, I get it, its dramatic, but dramatic wont keep me watching for 2 seasons going "oh yea, you see us up here? Somethings going crazy up here, but you dont get to see what just yet, gotta set the tone, that toney tone, of awesomeness, just to show we are here, and you are down there, wondering, wondering what we're doing, and where we've been, we've been somewhere but you dont know where, we do, but we wont let you know just yet, keepin the suspense on a 9 1/2, maybe a 9 3/4 but not totally a 10 yet"

And yet, when we do have great sci fi, the bastards always screw it up.

Babylon 5 - all that rushed gak at the end of series 4 and the pointlessness of series 5 due to Warner Bros threatening cancellation and the writer having to cram most of what should have been series 5 into the end of series 4 only to be told 'oh yeh, you can have a 5th series after all'.

Farscape - syfy killed it, left series 4 on a cliffhanger. The hallmark miniseries was a godsend but not the series we needed.

Firefly - poor, poor firefly....

Battlestar - I know, it ran it's full course, but the last series was terrible. It was like they rounded up the usual writers and shot them then replaced them with the Lost writers and made the series I had loved into some quasi-mystical bs with lots of unfinished or unsatisfactory endings.

This post makes me cry... for all the series I have watched and for the ones I had hopes of enjoying.

Watched the pilot last night.
Some glaring plot holes at times. Does have a Walking Dead feel to it but its not as dark as WD and outrightly cheesy in places.
Definetly picked up when they and has some potential. I'll stick with it for a while and see how they progress it.

Oooo interesting, hadnt croseed my mind. However when you consider they will be would the writers take that chance for TV?

Anyone been following this? I TIVOed the first few episodes and watched them last weekend. To me it seems like a neat premise with some good ideas, but the writing, plotting, and direction is really weak. So many idiot bits - 300 people and the only one who knows how to cook at all is the criminal they captured and had in a cell? They have a captured alien and kid with the thing removed, and don't have a guard or medical person watching either one? They've got no running water or power, but the visiting doctor always has a freshly dry-cleaned designer shirt? They build up a guy as a character, then he gets killed in an ambush, and not even his buddy cares?

I'm sticking with it since I want to like it, but if they don't get it together I think it's going to get old fast.

I watch the show. I like it. its better than I expected thankfully.

I like that they break the traditional boundaries of who lives and who dies regardless of their importance. the whole superhero portion of main charactors gets kind of old.
