Hello all. A couple of friends and I are opening a new game store in Centerville, south of Dayton, and are planning a tournament on July 30th as part of our grand opening celebrations. It's a 5,800 sq. ft. store with 18 gaming table available, so I'm hoping to get close to 36 players for our first tournament. Although we're a new store, we have tons of terrain so don't worry about any desert planet battles. It's $20 which includes a pizza lunch, and all entry fees will be given out as prizes. The basics are below and I'll post missions shortly. Call us at 937-436-7305 or email me at Toby@epiclootgames.com to register.
Let me know if I missed anything, and I hope to see you July 30.
Epic Loot Grand (opening) Tournament
1850 40k Tournament
July 30th
9130 Dayton-Lebanon Pike
Centerville OH 45458
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Epic-Loot-Games-and-Comics/191255594242997
$20 Entry Fee (Includes pizza lunch). Space for up to 36 players. Swiss pairings will be used and first round will be random except to avoid pairing people who come together.
Minimum prizes as follows (will double if we get at least 20 players):
1st Place $100, 2nd Place $50, Players Choice $50, plus random door prizes
3 rounds
11 AM Check-In, 11:30- 1:30 1st Round, 1:30-2:15 Lunch, 2:30- 4:30 Round 2, 4:45-6:45 Round 3
1st and 2nd place decided only on battle points tallied (Win=6 pts. Draw=3 pts. Loss=1pt) plus any bonus points.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Missions
A massive earthquake at the long overrun squat homeworld has revealed an abandoned munitions depot. In hopes of discovering usable weapons and technology, your forces have been dispatched to lay claim to the area. On approach, you discover enemy forces have detected the seismic activity and are en route as well. Seeking to seize the initiative, your forces deploy quickly to the planet below.
Round 1 Strategic Positioning
The first step to securing the planet is establishing control over strategic positions near the munitions depot. Your forces fan out to secure cover and clear fire lanes before enemy forces can take advantage of them.
Deployment -Spearhead
Victory Conditions- Table quarters. Center 1’ circle counts as a 5th table quarter. Player with the most KP’s in a quarter claims the quarter. Non transport troop units count as 2 KP’s for these purposes. A unit cannot count toward multiple quarters, but the player can choose which quarter a unit straddling multiple quarters occupies.
Bonus Points:
+1 for the player who has scored more kill points
+1 if a player controls 4 or 5 quarters
Round 2 Secret Mission
With the initial skirmishes complete, a choice awaits you and your command. Your forces can either strike the enemy in an attempt to degrade their capabilities before they can establish defensive positions or you can seize and dig in to defensible positions with your own forces.
Deployment –Dawn of War
Victory Conditions- Each player chooses either of the following to be his/her primary mission:
1. Annihilation – Standard kill points as per rulebook
2. Seize Ground- Control more of the 4 objectives
The player’s primary mission is chosen before any rolls are made, and should be written on provided sheets and set to the side.
If a player completes their primary mission and their opponent fails s/he gets a win.
If both players complete their primary mission, it is a draw.
If a player fails to complete their mission they score a loss. It is possible for both players to lose.
+1 for killing all of the enemy HQ’s
+1 for having more units in your enemy’s deployment zone
Round 3 The Depot
With positions established and the munitions depot in sight, all that remains is the final bloody push to control the depot itself. As the forces prepare to move out, your scouts bring a wild eyed bearded squat into your camp. It turns out he is one of a handful of survivors who has somehow managed to scrape out a solitary existence on this planet for years. You initially dismiss his offers to join you in exchange for beer. Until you see the gleaming weapon at his side that is.
Deployment –Pitched Battle
Victory Conditions- Claim the center objective. Player with the most troop units with a model within 6” of the center of the table is victorious.
Special Rules:
Squat Survivor
Each player will be provided a squat model for the game who uses the following profile:
Ws Bs S T Wo I A Ld Sv
4 4 3 4 1 2 1 9 4+
Independent character
He is armed with a close combat weapon and an EMP launcher.
**Clarification for Daemon Armies** Since the squat is not a deamon, he is an exception to the normal daemon rules and does not deepstrike in. He must start on the board or come from reserves as normal.
EMP Launcher
The EMP launcher is Heavy 1, 48” range, large blast. For any vehicle touched by the large blast template, roll a d6 with the following results: 1-No Effect, 2-5- Glancing Hit, 6- Penetrating Hit. No saves of any kind can be taken against this. The weapon has no effect on non vehicle units.
Bonus Points:
+1 if you destroy at least one vehicle with the EMP Launcher
+1 for killing all enemy fast attack units

Alfndrate is about right. With good traffic and some flexibility on speed limits it can be a bit less.
I'm trying to be mindful of the out of towners by getting things wrapped up by seven. Alternatively, there are cheap places to stay nearby and we'll be going out for dinner and drinks afterwards if you do stick around.
You two could even look at splitting a room to stay on the cheap.

Are there any painting/wysiwyg requirements? Because I've got 1750 points of ultramarines and 1850 of Blood Angels, but 100 points of the ultrasmurfs would most likely be non-wysiwyg, and the blood angels are FAR from painted.

Yeah it takes about 4 and a half hours for me to get to my parents in Richmond, IN, but they live right off of I-70, and is right around 300 miles. Centerville, OH I think is about the same, maybe a little closer.
Plus if all things work out right, will be able to play with my parents new Golden Retriever puppy litter while I am home. My mom has determined, only way to get me home is for their dogs to have puppies.

A couple other things for everyone:
1. No hand written lists will be accepted. This is to ensure points are correct and your opponent can easily read what's in your list. We do have several computers at the store with armybuilder and excel. You are welcome to enter your army into one or the other at the store, but please get there a little early if you need to.
2. Since someone asked offline, I'll clarify that you do not tell your opponent which mission you have chosen in round 2 until the game is over.
Alfndrate: Good question. WYSIWIG is required of all armies. Painting is not (although there will be prizes for it).
Threewolves: You should just stick around at your parents for a few days after and head to Gen-Con in Indy. Not as exciting as puppies I agree, but not bad

I may have to pass on this tournament :(
I was looking at my Blood Angels last night while thinking about it, and they're not even wysiwyg... :-/
In an attempt to save money I took the infernus pistols and hand flamers I had left over from the Death Company boxes and used them to represent flamers and meltaguns on my honor guard... :-/

Personally I'd have no problem with hand flamers as flamers and infernus pistols as meltaguns as long as they are standard across the board. They're similar enough to be a usable conversion in my mind.
If that's the only non-WYSIWIG thing in your army I think you'll be fine. If it turns out to be confusing, you're welcome to use a few of my blood angels with meltaguns and flamers.
The main concern is claiming bolter weilding marines have missile launchers or what not.

No, the entire army is built wysiwyg, the only things that someone might question is that I didn't have any Sang priest/apothecary bits, so I tried to convert some (they need some tlc) and my honor guard using hf and ip as flamers and meltas (though like my assault units have actual melta guns) My models in question A member of my honor guard (all honor guard look similar) And my Honor Guard's Sanguinary Novitiate the 'power fist' has a piece hanging below it that I've been trying to figure out how to make it look like the apothecary's needle thingy.

I would have no issue with those, heck since I dont play against Blood Angels a lot, at first glance i would automatically think those were meltaguns and flamers.

The questions on wysiwyg are really the only things that are making this potential tournament a no go for me, and its nothing against the store, its me being cheap lol

I may make my 40k return official at this tournament with my deathwing... since I live in Vandalia, and work in Dayton I am really close. Assuming there are still spots open when you open officially in July (16th according to your website?) then I will pay in person ... need a reason to come check it out...
I am going to link the stores website here, since I can't access FB at work: http://epiclootgames.com/

Great to hear from all of you. We're getting a little nervous now that we're so close to actually opening. We're just about done with everything and completing inspections over the next couple days.
At this point I fully expect to be open the weekend of the 9th even though our "grand opening" will remain the 16th. It'd be great to have folks come and sign up in person for the tourney any time on the 9th or after. If you get a chance come check out the store prior to the 30th. I think you'll be impressed with the layout and the couple thousand square feet of gaming space.

Wow i am very excited about this...will you be open this sunday (7/10)? Automatically Appended Next Post: My only question regarding that last mission, is could it be unfair if your opponent is playing a list without any vehicles? Or an army that simply doesn't have any? Could the emp (despite not making sense fluff wise) affect MC's as well? or bike troops?

We're waiting for the fire inspector right now, so if all goes well we should be open this Friday. I'll update this post once I get final word.
Also, note the clarification on how the squat works with Deamons in the initial post.
Skarousis: The EMP is a hopefully fun way to help keep the center objective from becoming a parking lot. I haven't seen MC's or bikes dominating center objective missions like mass mech can. While not entirely fair to all armies, I don't think it's game breaking and I purposely posted missions well in advance to give people time to adjust.
Hope that makes sense, and look forward to meeting you Sunday.
