Personally, I think this board needs dedicated mods who are involved in the threads that take place here and know how they run, as well as whom are aware of the common issues and problems that often arrive in them.
Whilst I would be more than happy to be a Mod of this board, I think - and many will agree with me - that FITZZ should be the first choice for this position, as he is a very well liked, appreciated and respected member of the roleplaying community here on Dakka, with a fair sense of judgment.

I agree. We need someone who can judge wether a RP will be good enough before it starts, and someone who can stop people creating to many new RPs.
I also agree that FITZZ would be a great choice, I have never played a RP with him, but he looks like a nice enough person from what I have seen of him. Plus, he has run the most sucessful RP on Dakka as far as I know, Blood Moon.

It's similar to the swap shop board - they've got two or three dedicated mods, yet we have none.

To be honest, this really is a yes or no question. You either think we should have dedicated Mods down here or you don't. Simple.

No, I don't think we need anybody moderating this forum. People can choose for themselves whether a game is worthwhile.
However, what I would like to see is: when a GM sees there game is never going to happen, they ask a mod to delete the thread, instead of cluttering up the SG&CF board.

Yes, I can see that but I don't believe that a poll is a good way to plan how we approach moderation. I have myself moderated these threads for some time now, as has Mannahnin. Any of the problems which we've seen, and they are not many to be honest, can be addressed to the satisfaction of the site owners by use of the yellow triangle (mod alert) button Mannahnin mentioned. The complaint can then be easily handled by the current moderation team. To be honest, the Survivor Games subforum does not generate a lot of rules violation and for that the regular patrons of this section of DakkaDakka deserve commendation -- not more stringent moderation.

That's not necessarily a bad attitude, in some respects. You should give some consideration as to your motivation for using the modalert button, of course. Has someone actually violated DakkaDakka rules or have they just annoyed or irritated you? If you feel that someone is breaking the site rules then it is NEVER badgering to use the yellow triangle button . The moderation team will handle it from there.

Agreed, but a lot of problems specific to the actual games often crop up that need someone to sort it out. I know that RZ&LWC had a lot of such issues and is probably the best example.

I support this view entirely. I don't think DakkaDakka really needs more rules. Within the existing site rules, posters may start any RP thread they like. The Bringer wrote:However, what I would like to see is: when a GM sees there game is never going to happen, they ask a mod to delete the thread, instead of cluttering up the SG&CF board.
You can use the yellow triangle button on your own thread (push the one in your OP) to alert a mod to this issue. Simply type into the description part: "No interest, please lock."

Yes, I have seen the kind of issues you're talking about. In those cases, moderators stepped in when the site rules were broken. Otherwise, it is up to the people who are voluntarily playing the game -- and to achieve this end, none of you need to be a moderator. There are two pointers to remember: (1) be responsible for your own mature and polite behavior and (2) when someone else is breaking site rules, use the modalert button.

Stickied threads almost never get viewed. That's actually something that is a bit annoying to us moderators. We put things like rules in stickies and then no one reads them at all. Stickied threads also tend to clutter the front page and we have been trying to get rid of them of late since they simply take up space and provide little to no information because people treat them as if they are invisible. But could you post some links to the threads in question and the moderation team will certainly consider it. I would warn you not to be frustrated when people don't read a thread once it has been stickied, however, if they are eventually stickied. A better solution would be to include a link to the thread you want to refer people to in your signature. In that case, the person that you are referring has immediate access to that thread without having to do anything except look a few millimeters beneath your post.

I agree with some of the points made here that a MOD is not needed, but my overall opinion is that we do need a MOD who is solely dedicated to this forum. Somebody like FITZZ, Darko, silly, Nachos, or myself, who are nearly always on the forum, and always there to check things out. Somebody who is well liked, gets involved in the RP's as well, and somebody who does his job.
That is my opinion.

Nope, not really of the belief that we need a new mod dedicated to the forums, I think having two, as manchu said, is really enough. Every issue that you guys have raised so far has been answered with a high degree of civility. I also don't like the idea of a mod taken from the community due to the general populace being probably too young to take the responsibility (Not knocking anyone in particular, but being a MOD isn't a simple task from what I've seen) or they just wouldn't have enough time what with the busy lifestyles many lead.

First off, Welcome back Manchu. Haven't seen you around for a while.
Second, I feel the need for a Mod in the SG&CF board like I need a hole in my head. Unless the issue is a breach of the Dakka rules, I see no reason why people shouldn't just, you know, eject them from the game? I've seen plenty of GMs do this. For Gods sakes, I was in an RP where this happened mid game!
If the GM can't handle it, just whack the triangle of friendship. That's my .02¢

While I have to admit I'm a bit flattered that people think I'd make a good "RP Mod", I have to say that I honestly think the forum operates fairly well as a self governing collective, that by and large has avoided most of the "problems" one sees in some of the other forums.
I think that the current "Mod Squad" that Dakka has in place is more than capable of handling any "real problems" should they arise.
On that note, I would like to add that, should anyone have any questions/ideas/ thoughts or what have you concerning RPs, I'm sure that if they were to PM myself or Darko we would be more than happy to lend a hand.
