Hey Dakka what is your favorite Call of Duty campaign? My buddies give me a hard time for it but my favorite is easily World at War. So darn epic fighting from Stalingrad to the capture of the Reichstag.

Original CoD ( gota love World War II ) then CoD 5 and then MW 1 & 2 ( I am really getting tired of: "Russians are the bad guys" thing ).

Hey, now though, it's World War III, and guess whose likely to be the bad-guys? Either Russia or China, since Makarov is in the videos, I'd have my money on the Russians. At least Homefront tried to mix things up a little, no matter how badly it fared in reviews.

Band of Brothers, Enemy at the Gates, and A Bridge too Far are probably some of my more liked WWII movies so I guess I have to pick the game that took material from all three.

Frontline was pretty good... wait that was Medal of Honor. I like the Vorkuta level in Black Ops, what other game has you escape from a Russian gulag?

WaW was fun, I can't think of another game that utilized the flamethrower the same way or did the pacific campaign so well. It used Enemy at the Gates as a source, but Enemy at the Gates used history as a source so I guess in the end CoD used history as a source.

I know right, I can imagine playing as the germans raising a bit of a ruckus though. But I would like to see certain parts from the german perspective, the Invasion of Poland should be included because it never is, D-Day from the german perspective would also be interesting because you know that you're fighting a losing battle.

Personally I want to see a game that includes every part of the war, even some stuff with the French resistance would be nice. Too bad nobody would want to take the flak for making a WW2 game from the german or japanese perspective. It would be rather easy to keep out the whole concentration camp part because its not like every single member of the wehrmacht worked in one.

Actually I think it would have to do more with gunning down allied soldiers. It would raise a stink in England, Canada, and the United States.

I've been wanting a German WWII FPS for years. Would be nice to see one. From the powerful rise of the Reich in the Battle of France to the peak of its power in Barborossa and then to the forlorn hope of 1945.

It would raise a stink in many more countries than just those three. The whole of the UK maybe, and not just England.

Germany would probably be a little sour. They have some serious issues as a country when it comes to WWII so I hear.

I would like to see 'cinematic' levels similar to ones like the 'numbers' mission in black ops, all you did was walk around but you had interaction and it told part of the story.

The D-Day level should be one with you starting out running ammo to the gunners and then later taking up the gun when a stray round manages to plug the gunner. The bunker takes a hit and smoke and debris fills the machine gun room, your character scrambles to leave and as he reaches a door another german opens it and flames fill the room.

That would be a good transition level, make it about 4 or so minutes long and then transition to another character. Before hand I would enjoy seeing victorious battles for the germans, like Dunkirk, etc, etc and after the D-Day level maybe play as the americans, or whatever.

I would propose:

The Battle of France as a member of 7th Panzer
The Invasion of Crete as Fallschirmjager
Siege of Tobruk as a member of the Afrika Korp
Operation Barbarossa
El Alemein
Stalingrad
Krusk (maybe Prokhorovka as 2nd SSPD or a tank mission)
Battle of Kassarine Pass
Normany Landings
Battle of Saint Lo
Operation Watch on the Rhine (Ardennes Offensive)
Siege of Budapest (again as 2nd SSPD)

You could play the whole game as members of 7th Panzer, 2nd SSPD, and the Afrika Korps with some Fallschirmjager thrown in. Would be a fresh take on WWII games and an excellent way to explore the German side of the war which so often gets boiled down to "Nazi's bad."

I would also like to see a level where you play as a member of the Italian... wait a second I had to let out a laugh.

I would agree with you, as far as having Normandy and Stalingrad though I am not too sure because they were both huge turning points in the war. Stalingrad would have to be a two part mission I think, one near the start of the Battle of Stalingrad and the other one near the end when the germans were surrounded and well, lost.

CoD2 was epic beyond belief, better than even original and thats saying something.

A german campaign in a CoD style game following an elite unit of german soldiers through some of the toughest battles of the war. As company of heroes proved you can have german protagonists and have them sympathetic enough. The game would end with a bolivian army ending defending some nameless building in Berlin. The level would basically go on until you get killed or run out of ammo and then the game would just fade to black. It would have emotional impact not seen in CoD style games.

We're watching you... scum.

best CoD mission was the aircraft defence mission in united offensive. a great piece of story right there. plus i love those types of missions.

for people who don't know of any CoDs before 4, the best mission out of those was probably the post-EMP mission in MW2. it just felt spooky.

Wise man say "if they don't take their hits, you can keep shooting them. if they still dont take their hits, they must not feel pain. ergo, they are a zombie and live rounds are authorised

Love almost all the CoDs 4 onwards. Blops was fun but got boring REALY fast. I watched my older Brother play the other CoDs but never got hold of the campaign... I love WaW but all my friends seem to hate it for some odd reason. MW2 I still play and still LOVE the campaign. Love the Nuke in CoD4 BOOM!

My favorite so far has either been the British campaign in CoD2, or the Soviet campaign in World at War. Treyarch did a great job making the US campaign in WaW feel authentic, in that each level was grueling and largely unenjoyable.

I would very much like to see a WWII shooter with a German campaign involved. You wouldn't have to paint them in a heroic light or even wash away the fact that they were, all in all, not very likable fellows (heck, in WaW you have chances to gun down unarmed German prisoners as the Soviets, why would the reverse be forbidden?). Just keep the game play on the battlefield and handle any narratively vital bits of torture or genocide through film clips, cutscenes or other spectator only moments in the game. As for the United States having trouble with a game letting you kill American Soldiers...I can already do that in just about every modern FPS that hits the market these days, and usually in ways that are eerily close to the actual combat operations going on in the Middle East.

Not so much, gunning down US soldiers is a multiplayer only perview right now. Making it a mandatory campaign level is different for the same reason calling OpFor the Taliban isn't acceptable even though they only changed the name.

Actually that reminds me of the MoH game guide, they had the enemy factions and how to speak in their language(nam means yes in arabic for example) but my favorite was how to say "He was only two days from retirement." in chechen or whatever language they speak.

With respect, I disagree. Call of Duty is played more as a multi-player experience than a single player experience at this point, and the campaigns are almost ancillary content to the game's online offerings. Beyond that, you actually contradicted yourself a bit there. The uproar over playing as "Taliban" was a response to Medal of Honor's online multi-player mode. If people are paying enough mind to online multi-player to respond to the idea of playing as "Taliban," how can they not be paying enough attention to notice that players gun down tens of thousands of virtual US Marines every single day?

The scene where you are in the fountain in WAW is pretty much exactly like a scene from Enemy at the Gates.

The thing is that the people got into an uproar over playing as the 'Taliban', the CoD series uses OpFor which just stands for Opposing Force, its a generic term so it was accepted. The enemies are called Al-Qaeda and Taliban in the single player, but as soon as you play the multiplayer its OpFor because playing as the Taliban is a bad thing.

People also raised a stink about the No Russian level in MW2 even though it could be skipped. Do you gun down marines, yes but only in multiplayer and as some generic enemy. In WaW can you play as the germans, yes but then again its only the multiplayer so its not necessary to gun down marines because you can be the marines.

Now if you make a game that forces someone to gun down marines storming up the beach its a bit different from multiplayer where you can sometimes change teams. People raise stinks about so many things that don't really matter or are superficial so even if you have a CoD game where you play as the Germans you would have to demonize them in some way so headlines like 'New CoD game sympathizes with Nazi Regime' because trust me it would happen.

I've only played about half of COD4:MW's campaign and thought it was pretty cool. I played maybe a third of COD:MW2's campaign and thought it was cool too. I'm actually interested in trying out WaW now from what I'm reading here. I used to have CoD2 and probably would have enjoyed that but I traded it off after barely even playing the campaign. I think I was trying to get some other game.

WaW is pretty generic, and as others have stated if you've seen any WW2 movie or played any WW2 game you've seen it before. Although instead of D-Day you invade an island.

One of the reasons to play it is for the bit of back story for Black Ops.
