Subject: The destroyed Titan Project COMPLETED on pg.3
|
 |
Thunderhawk Pilot Dropping From Orbit
|
Hello Today I was watching my little Bro play some Spore. While he was in the Civilization period he made a walker that looked a lot like one of the 40K titans. He assaulted an enemy city while doing soo he zoomed on one of his walker as it got hit by a laser. I watched it fall land on some little critters on the ground then I got the IDEA!
Using a Tutorial that I found on this Forum page http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/381775.page (thank you GODETH!) I decided too make not a Titan but a destroyed titan that has lost its leg and fallen on a building with some Chaos Marines Terminators inside or some other hell bound unit that I dislike.
I don't want the Titan too look like it just walked out off the factory new paint glistening in the Sun Light. I want the Titan too look like and thousand armies it has stepped over and ten thousand have seen it in horror, but it got hit in the right foot, higher part of the left leg and both guns are no more so I want it to look like it just walked out of hell and just could not take another step. So when I said destroyed I meant ruined like what remains of the Roman Empire. The left foot will be still in one piece but from the ankle up will be gone.
I shall keep this Forum updated with recant pics of the Titan as soon as they come.

Good start, mind telling us what class of Titan it's going to be or are you not working to any specific type?

Don't spray paint it black. it'll melt
i'm not sure whether its possible to remove the texture through painting alone

You could try to 'seal' it by painting it with PVA (white) glue. This would probably get rid of a lot of the texture and allows you to spray paint.

pva, in my experience, won't be enough. You should be able to use texture paint on it, spackle etc. I hate making things out polystyrene because of problems with priming and varnishing. Personally I would recommend remaking the whole thing with mdf.

MDF is Medium Density Fiberboard it does not warp easily and is nice to make gaming boards on.

Use a number of thin layers of Gesso on the styrofoam and it will help make it smoother, paintable and sandable.

what advise can you give me on Texturing on the Polystyrene, cause maybe on another Titan I will use MDF but for this one it was a learning Experience, I know how to texture paint but what other techniques could you give to me?

looks good dude. I would just get a large housepaint brush and then apply a cheap black acrlyic paint liberally by hand.

i'm just worried that the Titan was to small... half way I looked at a FW Titan and it looked so much bigger. Is it around the correct hight?

what you can do, is glue on some tissue paper to the foam and that will make it so you can spray paint it. its obviously going to be thin, but its paintable at that point.
I REALLY like this piece, very nice job. I might have to copy this idea for my own table! kudos!

That looks about right for the warlord titan, man. The forgeworld model stands 10.5 inches high. Eyeballing yours, I'd say it would have been a foot tall. No worries.

How about a layer of plasticard on the outside of the titan? It would fix the texture and spray paint problems.

I like what your doing. Ive thought about using polystirine for myt model. How are you planning on painting it, and getting a smooth finish as most paints will eat there way through.
