so i got the thought from when my friend said if he had his own country the people would fear him. i instantly disagreed with his methods and we got into a long discussion. but it got me thinking and so i also wondered how you guys would.
id run it kinda close to america. only the president would be elected for 8 years and then he wouldn't be allowed to be re-elected. id also have less restriction on guns,but people who had a violent past or had been to jail would outright not be allowed to own any weapons. spending on goods from other countries besides food and some other stuff would be heavily taxed or just not allowed.
im sure if i think alot more id come up with more,but my brain needs some rest from staring at this screen for the past 3 hours....
only serious answers!

The Chinese make the hats, obviously. They grow them on Hat trees that are abundant in the country side. It's a very cheap system

You know, heavily taxing all imports, will likely mean other countries either refusing to export to you, or you know, reciprocating in kind, ultimately wrecking your economy?
Me, I'd set up a socialist state. Healthcare for all, state education. I would make all elected officials live in their constituences, with parliament rather than being a building somewhere, be online via video conferncing, this being the 21st Century and all.
All major decisions, such as in or out of Europe etc would be decided by a popular referendum.
Oh, and all votes would be by proportional representation. None of this first past the post nonsense in my country! Oh no!

Running a country is tricky, with a dictatorship people will feel oppressed but things will get done if you know how to run an economy well, if not see Africa. With a democracy you need to have more than 2 political parties, see America. In the past having a large army was necessary, now its a matter of not pissing off the US/UN.

hmmm... about 500,000-2,000,000. various terrain. surrounding countries not really hostile,but not stupid either. i dunno,thats the best i can come up eith on a whim. oh,and you do have resources such as raw materials,wood,and oil.

So essentially, as a foriegn producer, I can set up my company in your country, at least on the face of it, and dodge your taxes? Surely for protectionism you would apply a HIGHER tax to domestic companies usiing foreign manufacturers. After all, THEY YOOR JURBZ!

A) its late at night,ive been staring at this screen awhile so im not fully 100% but not tired enough to sleep.
B) true...although now ive thought up that if you are founded in my country and the creator(s) a citizen,you get some lowered tax. now if they want to do that all of them have to move to my country and pay citizenship taxes and re found there business with paper work saying its from are country. im sure there are flaws here but ill keep patching it til theres not.

Try playing a game that simulates running a country, there are a bunch of them out there. Tropico, any of the simcity games, Supreme Ruler series, I think there are a few web games that also simulate countries.

ive played some. nation states the best ive played. i always end up becoming some dictator or military country...or a moralistic democracy. they seem to change between those 3 constantly.....

I'd just apply a blanket tax to full on imports. Outsourced stuff? Whack the tax up until it is no longer economically cheaper to do said outsourcing.
Going on your method of course. Neither of the above are particularly my bag.
Though working in the Customer Service industry, I would make it illegal to outsource said work to a country where your native tongue is not their native tongue. So much aggravation!

yeah... id make it illegal to fire a bunch of people/force them to move to keep job just to make running that branch cost less...also the accents are annoying...  they have to make all other country employees take language classes on the company's expense by this point im making it just not worth it for them.

Language classes are on thing. I deal with Indian call centres on a daily basis (well, apart from the weekends which tend to be spent watching TV in my pants, then heading up the Pub fully dressed).
Now if you can penetrate the something heavy accents, their english is often better than many colleagues. However, they work from a script. Working with the complexities of Car Insurance, this is simply not satisfactory. I could bore you all senseless right now explaining how I can hold you RTA, so you have to pay out for an otherwise uninusred driver. But a foreign call centre cannot script this, which means communications frequently breakdown, causing claims to go on far longer than they need to, and all because someone wants to cut costs. It's irritating, and it's unnecessary.
