decided it was time to take a break from the Oblits so I don't burn myself out, but I still need a side project so I don't burn myself out on my friend's terminators either! Well, the arrival of a bits order yesterday as well as some creative use of bits I already had led to some new additions that I think my army will benefit from...
Here's 4 of the 5 plannes Chosen team. I'm running them as a champ w/ Lightning claws, one fellow with an icon of Chaos Glory and a meltagun, and the others with meltaguns as well. They're for hunting big targets (Land raider, Leman russes, carnifexes, Destroyers, etc.), while the ability to assault coupled wiht the lightning claws gives them more flexibility should prime targets not make themselves available. May pass out a few meltbombs for wound allocation shenanigans.
Standard Melta Chosen:
Champ w/ lightning claws:
Meltagunner w/ icon:
And a group shot as they stand now:
I've also decided to convert a squad of standard CSMs I had into a Havos team with four misisle launchers. However, I don't have four marine-mounted missile launchers, all the bits sites are out, and I can't uy things off of ebay right now. So, after coming across a Missile Pod from a Sentinel, I had an idea...
The launcher here will count as one marine itself, and it'll have three crewmen-one spotter, one controller/technician, and one reloader. Each of them (as well as the launcher itself) will count as four missile launcher marines, and as each of them is killed over the course of the game, one less shot is fired due to the others having to pick up the missing guy's slack down until the misisle launcher itself is firing missiles off one at a time on it's limited AI. I'm going to simply re-use the previous Aspiring Champion for them, adn they'll have an icon of Chaos Glory so their asses stay in place.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
last dude's assembled!
The whole squad will likely get more spikey bits before primer, but as of now they're playable!

Decided that I didn't like the lightning claw on my oblit, so I made him some something better:
Should the mechadendrite stay or go? What about the chest-mounted plasma cannon (which I'd build up a new chest around)
Also made the rest of the missile launcher counts-as dudes. The controller/technician will get a servo arm replacing an exhaust arm on his backpack and the spotter will get a pointing arm once the bits come out of the purple power.
And dudes from the CSM squad they came from whom will now help fill out the Havoc squad!

Things have been slow on my end lately for a number of reasons, but with some fresh bits and inspiration in hand, I decided to throw you guys a little something...
No hazard stripes or complex trim colors, keeping it simple; white primer, coat of Boltgun, trim painted with Tin Bitz, wash of Badab Black, goblin green drybrush around the eyes, scorpion green in the eyes themselves, highlight/repaint base metals on the raised/upper surfaces. Base was Scorched brown, khemri brown drybrush, devlan mud wash, khemri again, black trim, and a little static grass. Only eight colors, easy to replicate, and allows for subtle variations while still keeping them in a uniform scheme.

Thanks to my dad (who decided to be cool for once! ), I won the auction for the Marauder Destroyer, and I should have it within a week or two! In the meantime, I'm using the good mood/excitement to try and paint a figure a day in preperation for the upcoming project! The figure for today is one of my personal favorites so far (even with the misalignment of the mold for the legs, which I was able to minimize), the Aspiring Champion for the regular CSM squad. I agree with the idea of Chainaxes just feeling more preheresy/chaos-y than chainswords, so I figured that it-along with the Forgeworld parts and special helmet-would help to better mark him as the Champion.
He has yet to be sealed (REALLY bad weather outside and too many people inside), but otherwise he's finished; here's a side-by-side shot of him with the other currently completed squadmate:
Also, I've decided to use the "Rust Rats of Skey-Fenn" title for an allied traitor guard force I plan to make in the future, so I'm open to suggestions for new names for this warband!

Thanks to a good suggestion from Tapeworm over on Papanurgle, I decided to add a Japanese-style back banner to the Champion to try and further push the Imperial Japan feel. I plan on getting some Katanas from Paulson Games in the near future for Chosen, certain champions, etc. to help even further.
Here he is with the other two finished squadmates, all of them sealed now!
Some side shots of the banner. My sister was kind enough to give me some rough guidlines wiht a mechanical pencil, which helped me a GREAT deal!
And some progress shots of other squad members:
I really like how this guys' "snub" pistols came out, so I decided to give him one of my Mark 5 helmets.
Yes, the icon's over-the-top. Look at it this way: there will be NO mistaking my Champion as the icon-bearer with THIS in the squad! : lol:
And the rest of the squad, whom need shoulderpads and powerplants. :(

Subject: Iron Suns (9/12): Marauder Destroyer "Hakai" inbound!

Purposeful Hammerhead Pilot

This morning, the moment I had been waiting for finally came to pass...and then I had to go out of town and screw around all day trying to convince my great grandma to settle on a damn gas stove.
Anyways...sore and tired, the first thing I did when I got home was start work on what I hope to be the first of many large-scale fliers in the Iron Suns arsenal: the modified Marauder Destroyer Hakai!
Seriously, LOOK AT THAT THING! It's fragging HUGE! If not for the stand, I could place up to four Land Raiders under it's shadow!
Being the conversionist that I am-and seeing that this craft now belongs to the Iron Suns-I've begun planning ways to start up-gunning this beauty.
Wingtip-mounted lascannons are almost guaranteed, and I may rip out the pilots and close up the cockpits-though I may leave them, or replace the main pilot with a Chaos Marine if possible. There was some damage tot he cowling and support for the tail twin-linked assault cannons, so they'll be getting some conversion work; I may replace them, though, if anyone has any suggestions for good replacements. I'm also going over a few ideas for what to replace the turret heavy-bolters with...
Any suggestions there? I'm thinking Twin-linked Lascannons or maybe Autocannons-definitely with an AA mount, seeing as that makes the most sense for a turret in that position. Thoughts?

Nice work. I like the Havok team idea in particular. The leg armour looks really good on the Chosen, but the soft boots look a bit funny in my view. Any way you could give them something a bit chunkier on their feet?

The Heavy Bolter turret is for defense against fighters above you. I don't think plasma would be effective here, maybe autocannons or lascannons. But in Dan Abnett's novel Double Eagle, the Thunderbolt pilots speak of the autocannons in the Thunderbolts only being much good at close range. The Marauder Destroyer is meant to be a close infantry support craft, so I would keep the top turret as bolters. Also, the fluff is specific about the deliberate separation of Navy and Guard (and Astartes for that matter) being put into place after the Horus Heresy to eliminate the possibility of heresy on that scale ever happening again. However despite the command structure, I have built my Marauder Destroyer as fitting in with my catachans, supposing that due to the Guard And Navy's close working relationship that the Navy would recruit from the same planets as the guard...I dunno
..
On the hobby side, I see your wings didn't seperate from their thick resin "sprue" any cleaner than mine! lol a little Squadron green putty fixed mine up tho. If you haven't already, I'd suggest drilling and pinning at least the wings into the thick intake part of the fuselage. When you are painting this, you'll find that you pick it up and rotate it by the wings by necessity, and as heavy duty as they are with the solid engines on, the wings have some scary bend to them once you get past the stability offered by the engines.
..
And HOW did you mount the plastic flying stand?? If possible, can I see a shot of where you mounted it for best balance? My Hellstrike missles haven't yet arrived from FW, so I am waiting on them to complete the belly of my Marauder Destroyer

Here's the requested belly shot:
Luckily, it had a pre-cut slot for the flying base, so I simply glued it in at the angle that supported the weight the best. I plan to yank it out soon and try to find a good "peg to put in there so I can take it off the base, though I'm likely going to remove the landing gear struts and then have said gear retracted due to the damage done in-transit.
Peregrine was right about the wingtip-mounted lascannons (though Tapeworm's idea of wingtip-mounte dplasma cannons might make it in! XD), so I started thinking of what to do with them. Then I had a look at the Marauder's little brother-the Thunderbolt (another model I really like!)-and came up with this:
Aside from a few misaligned spots I need to file/ GS and thw wicked bend in the starboard wing, it's nearly ready for primer! As for the tail-mounted weapon, Tapeworm suggested multi-meltas-and I had considered them, so that or a pair of plasma cannons may make it as the new tail-mounted guns...

Alright everyone, it's been a week since the post on Shogun, so I figured I'd drop by and fill you all in on my other currently-active projects!
First up, we have a possible candidate for a combi-plasma Champion should I build another full Chaos Marine squad; may exchange it for a combi-melta or combi-flamer though.
Next up, we have a Warsmith I've been restoring to use as either a champion, chosen, or cheap Chaos Lord. We also have a pair of WIP Missile Launcher Marines; the loader and contorller marines will remain in the Havoc squad, but they will no longer be proxying as Missile Launcher-wielding Marines on the tabletop once these two join.
Third on the list is a WIP Hammer that will serves as the DCCW (Dreadnought Close-COmbat Weapon) for an upcoming project-a Warsmith Contemptor-Pattern Dreadnought!
Finally is more of a fun project for myself, a WIP True-scale Warsmith! The "claw" on the servo-arm came out defective, but when I tried to think of ways to save it, I rememebred an Iron Warriors dreadnought I had seen on Dakkadakka that had a large hydrualic pike/ram for a DCCW. Coupled with my love of Chrome Hounds (which had the hydraulic pikes at well), I took one of the spikes from one of the prows in the Chaos Vehicle Accessories kit and affixed it as such.

After roughly a month in the mail, the parts for the beginning of my Contemptor Dreadnought have arrived! The project is still in it's infancy, but if the bits/ideas keep coming, this fella should be finished and fully painted before too long! The Warsmith Contemptor will be delayed as a future project; I want to save that for when I've had more experience working with these things! Given the status that Contemptors hold amongst Loyalists and Renegades alike, he has been gifted with the name "Tojo" - and yes, that is a direct reference to WW2 Japan (The actual Warsmith will be named "Hirohito"!). I need to remove and rotate the body more, and possibly replace the back foot with a standing-flat foot. I may also attempt to extend the thighs a little. Right now I'm looking at arming him with a Butcher Cannon (twice the shots and one higher strength of an Autocannon), DCCW w/ Plasma Blaster (Maybe Heavy Flamer instead), and possibly a Havoc Launcher as well as Mark fo Nurgle (-1 to all damage rolls-VERY Iron Warriors-ish!).

Started adding bits last night, and since the left shoulder was TERRIBLY miscasted, I decided to build the Havoc Launcher into the shoulder. Not totally happy wiht it yet, but gonna do some GS work on it first before I make any decisions. Could definitely use some suggestions there! I've also begun bulking out the "collar", which will get some cool detailing if my sister will help me. Also, should I cut the exhaust stacks shorter? And does anyone else have the base of the Defiler's "flail" arm? I've turned my room inside-out and can't find the other half, and I need it to make the Butcher Cannon conversion I have in mind. :( Suggestions for an ammo hopper would be nice, too!

Been doing more work on Tojo here, used plenty of liquid GS to smooth out the "collar". I tried to get my Contemptor into a game earlier in the evening, but due to time constraints (and the high point cost of what I had originally planned) I didn't have time to do a lot of mathhammering. After I got hom and had dinner, though, I started re-workign my list to allow me to use both Hell Blades and my Contemptor-though with modified gear. I decided that a Havoc Launcher was just too much, so I ripped it out of the shoulder and slimmed it down. After my third unsuccessful search for the other half of that Defiler flail arm that I wanted to make into a Butcher Cannon (might make a good Soul Burner though!), I started tinkering with other interesting bits I found-which included part of my other dreadnought's former hip, a pair of sentinel autocannons still on the sprue, the Heavy Bolters I took off my Marauder Destroyer, and a fan from a Drop Pod. After a little cutting, pinning, and gluing, I came up with this...
Now THAT is looking like a proper Contemptor arm! As for the slightly more "blocky" look, I can simply say that it's a new arm, that the old one was destroyed and that the Warsmith in charge at the time decided to build him a new one. I may add some curved armor panels to it and possibly might move the ammo drums up a bit more, but otherwise I think the assembly's done. GOnna try to add some trim to the shoulder, so the GS work, then get it painted!
As for the build I'm going to run with him...
-Butcher Cannon (Two autocannons with one more point of strength and a foot shorter range)
-Heavy Flamer
-Extra Armor
-Heavy Flamer (Replacing the TL bolter in the DCCW, may build it into the hammer)
All of that added up quickly, clocking in at a hefty 265 points! Hopefully the resiliency and the raw firepower it can put out will justify the cost! XD I hope to try it against my buddy's Nids soon!
