So, I recently got this video link from a friend of mine with this new Pepsi commercial.

I was then told that this video is "stereotyping at its best" because since polar bears can't tan in real life, clearly the tan polar bear is an attempt at blackface, with the accent backing it up.

Personally I think she's being an idiot, and that such an interpretation is completely unsupported and invalid.

I'd like to ask a wider community what they think. Is this commercial an offensive reminder of blackface vaudevilles, is it just a commercial, or is it something else?

Yes, I take offense to this. Polar bears don't get darker in the sunlight! [/sarcasm]

Please, who ever deemed this offensive needs to be exiled to a desert island, so as to never be offended by anything... ever...

Remember that time someone got offended by something?

This does allow the opportunity to highlight something important however. Pepsi sucks, and Coke is one of the best sodas to use as a mixer.

Jolly good for cleaning the crapper too by all accounts.
Best pouring it straight down the toilet.
That has the added bonus of not having to drink the ghastly belchmakingteethitchinggakktasting cola.

It doesn't remind me of Blackface vaudeville, however it does remind me of the Coke advert with the polar bears.

Yeah, I don't see the "Blackface" connection either...
Just comes across as Pepsi's (Failed) attempt to show how much more "Hip, with it and active" their customers are than the "plain" polar bears who lay around drinking Coke.

Indeed. It's not really "Hip, with and active" anyway, which is the most offensive part of it. I wouldn't have even noticed a racial component were it to go unmentioned. It reminds me of what some middling-aged accountant desperately trying to remain culturally 'cool' might think his kids would think would think is awesome, or whatever expression the kids use nowadays to confound old-timers. Boss, or rad, or something. Cool beans?

The commercial was not really ace material and who cares if it's offensive to some people?
Being offended is still subjective and nothing really happens if you get offended, so why take the time and energy to whine about it.

Tight?..meh some crap like that..

But yes, the commercial is a perfect example of corporate advertisers trying to put their finger on the "pulse of young people" and in the process jamming said finger up their own backsides.

And the cans/bottles don't even look like they're done that well. They almost look slapped in after the fact. Compare that with how well done the Coke commercials usually are, it's pretty pathetic.

Fan boys gotta fan

I read a few of the comments about this ad. Apparently Cresta had to change the formula due to the carcinogenic gakk that made it so frothy and pink. New formula was not frothy man!

As for it being a medicine, that appellation goes to coke cola
The clue, as you prolly already know, is in the name.
