I can just see it now, we will all be looking back fondly on the days when the Dungeons and Dragons movies were considered to be the ultimate crime against Geekdom. I don't even play the game anymore and this really grinds my gears.

Magic: The Gathering makes perfect sense as an adaptation. You have a collection of very filmable imagery and settings, and duelling wizards who summon monsters is a really straight forward movie concept.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

No doubt. I'm just kind of skeptical of the quality of adaptations.

The Last Chancer Who Survived

I had a friend of a friend of a friend who wrote a script for a MTG movie. He thought he was going to film it himself and get all kinds of pro wrestlers to be in it. I read the first 3 pages and stopped.. something like a bunch of goth kids hanging out in a cemetary and they run into a guy named sengir who sends them back in time and turns them into wizards.
but then I guess that's not too far off from the old D&D cartoon...

The script should be based on the Homelands setting. That will get the people in the theaters!

Thank GOD! I like knowing that Dungeons and Dragons is a guilty pleasure. There is only so much room for movies like that. I mean, why else would a simple thief be able to slay an UBER Anti Paladin type?

Yes, that's exactly what was wrong with that movie, and ruined what had been a really enjoyable experience up until that point.

That movie is still pretty cool for many other reasons, but mainly because thats the BEST "Devil" ever caught on film. Hands down.
