Space marines will win. On warhammer fantasy battle side, WoC will reign superior.

Well, going by fluff, individually CSM are superior to most loyalists both physically and due to experience, but they are worse tactically, dude to their individualisum. In addition warp powers seem far more readily available to CSMs, due to the warp gifts, making exceptional individuals even more powerful, but the loyalist superior equipment and technology more than makes up for it in larger scale conflicts.

So I would guess that in a small scraps or duels, CSM generally win, but in big scale battles SM win due to superior morale, tactics and technology.

Chaos, of course. As a fellow disciple of the Dark Prince, I think you would agree that those Imperials, they're boring, boring, BORING! No fun, no fun at all! We enjoy what we do, that makes us different. You can't fight Chaos because to fight us is to give us strength.

I would have to 2nd what the man above me has said. On a one on one or small scale conflict I would give it to to the chaos marines..but on a much more larger battle is more up in the air. Loyal marines wold have alot more gear at hand but the chaos marines would have alot more tricks so its a bit harder to say.

Also, what kind of Chaos Marines? Iron Warriors? Death Guard Plague Marines? Aspiring Sorcerers? Very important to consider I'd think

My money always goes on the loyalists in a straight up and down fight. Chaos only wins if it attacks with double numbers, or using some kind of underhanded tactic. I also think, however, that the original Legions are the best of the Marines on either side, so non-Legion Marines vs former Legion Marines is going to weigh against the lesser soldiers.

Long term campaign, loyalists. They've got better organization, whereas CSM tend to act like Orks in terms of leadership. That said, the initial battles will be CSM sided, until the loyalists draw their near infinite, albeit slow, resources.

There's more loyalists so I see them winning if we were to actually follow this ridiculous topic.

Well if all of the forces of chaos united then i would say that chaos would win without a doubt. mainly because the chaos space marines would of had time to develop and mutate within the eye of terror

Equally skilled and equally equipped, but their are more loyalists. So unless those demon Primarch's get off their asses I tip my hat to the loyalists.

Do loyalists get Gray Knights and Custodes if so I take back my previous statement

Grey Knights are a Space Marine Chapter, last I checked. Source: Dark Heresy Core Rulebook.

Clearly Chaos, after watching this, just imagine what a few Daemon Princes could accomplish! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBopjeR60UM

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

No, no, no. CSM are outnumbered handily by the loyalist marines.

Sure, their thralls may be considered part of CSM and the fact that they can, on occasion, summon demons from the warp. They think outside the box/codex, and are willing to let the end justify the means.

Still, add it all together, every gun, claw and chaos zealot, and you still don't even come close to enough force. The CSMs rely on raids and surgical strikes to get anything done, until Abaddon wants to start up his 295th failed crusade that ends on the first planet it starts on. And it's like that for a reason: their recruitment practices are virtually nonexistent, and therefore their numbers are small and getting smaller. They have no ability to replace lost armor or weapons without stealing them from loyalist marines, and can only rely on their slaves unlike the loyalists who can deal and use the resources of the entire Imperium.

The ONLY way I could see the CSM winning is if the "versus mode" isn't the entire situation, but a toe-to-toe battle in equal numbers with loyalists and CSMs, in which case their chaos powers would likely give them a tremendous edge.

Whoever is the protagonist ("good guy") of the story will win. 98% of the time, this'll be the loyalist Marine.

Whichever one I am playing in that game.

Unless it's against one of a couple/few dozen top players (number increases if you're counting outside the US); then the odds are closer to 50/50.

It wouldn't be me, because I just lost the game.

Now that I got that out of my system:

If it was EVERY Space marine against EVERY Chaos Marine, I would say Space Marines. IIRC, there is Around 1,000,000 Space Marines. Dunno how many Chaos Marines there are, but if I had to put money on it, would prolly bet less than 1,000,000 Chaos Marines. Maybe 500,000.

I would say it depends on the source really

some sources show single loyalist marines cutting down swathes of CSM

realistically, they should be about equal with CSM having Warp powers and loyalists having better equipment
