I know I'm not the only one who has experienced this problem; basic searching on The Honour Guard has revealed that. Literally, the game just crashes to desktop during the startup logos. Ugh, that's no good. Seemed to work fine on my PC, just make sure you update your video drivers and such.
Or play it on console

Not really enough information to determine. What's your system specs? My first guess is that it's RAM. But processor, graphics card, random PC silliness could all be issues.

My RAM isn't amazing, just like the rest of the PC, but it handles the Dawn of War 2 series of games well enough and should be able to eat up a demo like this with ease in my experience. I have plans to build a new quad core, but I don't want to wait until early next year before being able to play the game.
Can't really give you specs.. it's a Pentium 4 with hyperthreading, 1G of RAM.. more or less a single core pushed to the limit. I'm running steam off an extension drive, which I know isn't an optimal idea, but it actually resulted in faster perfomance as I had no space left on my main drive. I see no reason for that to cause an issue.
Grundz wrote:update video drivers is the most common issue.
I've tried. No genius, but I believe mine is Nvidia. However, when attempting to do the auto-scan and update of my software it fails to do whatever it's supposed to do.

This is one of the reasons I do most of my gaming on console nowadays; hate dealing with this sort of stuff.

1G of Ram might not be enough. I'm surprised that can run DoW2 to be honest.

I have done my utmost over there to get the answers I need. Tried many suggestions that I found, nothing worked so far.
LordofHats wrote:1G of Ram might not be enough. I'm surprised that can run DoW2 to be honest.
Oh, this ol' beauty has been kicking ass for 8 years of gaming. I've yet to find a game it can't run, Fire Warrior being the exception with its outdated directx and whatnot. It's the hyperthreading that lets it do all those. No real idea what it is, but it's about as good as single cores get.

Holy gak, 1 gig? Are you running vista?
You'd seriously have like, 250meg of memory for everything else once Vista is done eating it up. Maybe your comp is just not up to snuff!

Pff, who runs vista these days? XP all the way!
It isn't a problem with what I've got set up, that's utterly established on The Honour Guard forum.

No wonder he gets so annoyed on Dakka, it must take forever to load each damn page!
The only point of vista is to give you a discount on Windows 7. Honestly.. I can't even began to try and understand why they built that damn thing.
2000 is the best for just normal everyday usage.
XP is the best all round, and the best for gaming (old games, you see), but it's showing its age.
7.. heard bad things about it. It's all nice and shiny.. but I prefer what I know.
Anyway, enough of that. I'm pretty sure RAM isn't the problem guys. All it does is make everything take a lot longer to load, and cause varying levels of lag on multiplayer, depending on the game.

First go to this site and run any game: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ copy your specs here so we can give proper advice. Second you could run the demo in windowed mode while having task manager open. This way you can know your memory usage during the crash. How to get windowed mode: go to->steam->library->right click smurf game->properties-> set launch options-> type -windowed if that doesn't work then try alt+enter or ramming windows button or ctrl alt del. If you can't get windowed mode well gak happens.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in. |

Only people who haven't actually played either of the games say things like this. Space Marine is a copy of Gears of War like Duke Nukem Forever is a copy of Call of Duty. IE, they aren't, they're just in the same genre (3rd Person Shooter for the former and 1st Person Shooter in the latter) so ignorant people say they're similar because they, much like you, don't know any better.

Really? Last I checked GoW didn't have space marines in it, or Orks.
When your opinion is clearly wrong, it's not valid.
That's like saying Dawn of War and Starcraft are the same, because you build buildings and units in it.
So perhaps instead of acting childish and talking about enraging fanboys, you can educate yourself instead of posting ignorant non sense.
