1) You didn't type your title in all caps. Good job.
2) No. The Ultramarines movie was a giant steaming pile of turds.

And what, specifically, is the difference between a film and a movie?

I would also not enjoy a 40k movie franchise.

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable.

This is a start. The Ultramarines movie is like a beta. They test and see what the fan bases thought. Most did not like the film. Others thought is was the greatest thing since sliced bread. And then there are people like me who see a bigger picture. I look at the film like the Black Library's Audio Drama's, it is such a vast universe that things happen all of the time... I want to hear those stories. Next time though there need the design team from dawn of war 2 to do the film... not the guys making who made Bionicles...

So you differentiate a film, being an art form, from a movie, a type of entertainment that is more base, when both seek to captivate and enthrall? Just going about with different measures of course.

Regardless, I want them to botch a Necron vs. whatever before they stop. I will have Necron screen time, damnit!

Definitely agree thatthis is like a beta....seeing how it was released on dvd and not in the theatre... I agree the universe is sooo vast and sooo many stories out there... I would like to see more films... maybe another n the 40k universe, or one in the earlier horus heresy days..... OR i would like to see a movie like the book TALES OF HERESY...which is a collection of stories.... Maybe make a movi shaped like crreepshow or the British tales from the crypt movie...meaning several short movies in one movie

IRT short stories; Agreed! Like in the spirit of "Heavy Metal" the movie from the 80's. Good call.

I don't even know if you're being serious about calling the Ultramarines movie 'artlike' and above being made just for consumption...

The movie was entertaining in that it amused me for an hour and some odd minutes, but the cgi wasn't fantastic, the voice acting wasn't terrible but not good either, and the plot was weak.

If there is ever to be another feature length 40k movie, it better well not be made by GW, or at least not solely.

Stay on topic.
The Movie should of been more like the video game graphics wise. It took Relic 2 years to make it. Codex spent 2 years as well. Space marine already has a brilliant story. Ultramarine did not.

The main thing that killed the movie for me was how stupid the characters where. Seeing as how a space marine has to be a veteran of many battles just to become a battle brother it's hard to watch a whole tactical squad stumble around with no idea what to do.

Being a detail nerd I was also bothered by a lot of little things such as power armor not being able to stop a single attack (not even a throwing axe!), the lack of understanding how a crozius works (it's a death ray now?), and the plot holes (risking their lives jumping across the supports of a ruined bridge when they have a fully operational land speeder at their disposal). I also wish the marines didn't bounce around with such cat-like grace and nimble footing. I've always thought of a space marine as a lumbering juggernaught with heavy, purposful footfalls.

Over all it wasn't a bad popcorn movie.

nah Space marines are very agile in the armor. They aren't as graceful as the Eldar. But they can still do normal things that our Military do. but no ninja skills. PLus jumping isn't really nimble feet. Only thing that bothered me was they walked onto a wooden bridge. and the door is locked "Damn we need to go around." How about just break it open?

Yeah i agree on some of your details... but i think they also were making the film not just for warhammer 40k players and fans... i saw it advertised on comic sites, and model making sites... so i guess they cant appease just the 40k fans...

The Crozius death ray greatly annoyed me, the deccicated corpses in power armor annoyed me, the cowardly Apothecary annoyed me, The Chaos Space Marines dying like bitches annoyed me, the constant smoke machine annoyed me, I liked the movie because Im a ravenous 40k fan, it mostly sucked.

I honestly thought it was really poor. I felt like most of the movie was wasted as we see these Marines trudging through the desert. The story could have been told in 30 minutes and probably would have been better overall. The animation was alright, but I've really been partial to CG animated movies.

Compared to cutscenes you see in the video games, the movie really din't meet the expectations it should have.

Honestly? It was crap. Not because the graphics, or the rather stale plot, or even the shallow characters. No, it was crap because it was more SPESS MUHREENS. As if we already don't get enough of those shoved down our throats.

It amazes me that people like you bother to play 40k. It's like read Superman Comics and complaining about the plot centering around SHUUPHER MEEHN.

I... I had problems with the movie, which was unfortunate cause I was really looking forward to it before it was released.
The only graphical problem I had was that their arms didn't even reach past their torso, which made them all look like they had stumpy arms. Most of my problems lay in the plot, somewhere around the - OH LOOK THE LANDSPEEDER'S NOT RESPONDING, LET'S SEND THE CAPTAIN INTO THE OBVIOUSLY NOT AN AMBUSH ZONE, to the Chaplain with instant death energy waves was and finishing with the fact that flamers seem to explode with the force of a large bomb was where I gave up on it.

I'll give it this, the final stand against the Black Legion was friggen amazing, but if 5-6 'newly' appointed space marines, an Apothecary, a Chaplain, and a book brearer can slaughter their way through dozens of hardened and mutated chaos marines then one chapter would have probably purged the Eye of Terror by now...

A generally bad story line, out of character space marines and a poor, uninteresting setting are just some of the reasons I agree with Coolyo. It was a cheap attempt to break into a new franchise, with seemingly very little effort involved.

I know it was a low budget film, but it looked like it was made in the late 90s/early noughties.

I watched the first five minutes of this "movie".. then I was disgusted by the utter sillyness and stopped. I think GW should sue the people who made.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.
