Subject: Update!! - Why is my August '11 Electrical Bill over $600.00??? - Dynowatt: "G.W. Bush, that's why!"
|
 |

|
Ugh... so I just got my latest electric bill from Dynowatt Energy. Now look I know that rates are going up and you have to expect that in a state like Texas, but I just got my bill and they raised my rate by almost 150%!!
My bill is $620.00!! For an apartment! Suffice it to say that I have already switched to a REP with a much lower rate. Has anyone else experienced this?
I have already filed a complaint with the PUCT (Public Utility Council of Texas,) and ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) and I am going to refuse to pay this bill.
Has anyone every had a situation like this? My understanding is that, because I have switched, DynoSUCK cannot shut off my power because I have a different REP. (Retail Electric Provider)
Any info you can give is appreciated.

Electric bills always go up during the Summer, particularly in the South...but holy hell...that's just insane.
...My power bill averages about $160-$180 a month during the Summer for a three bedroom apartment.

Yeah, I have a nice apartment, but I was paying about $150 dollars a month in Electric for a 3 bedroom house. I just came off of a fixed rate plan ay 9.7 cents. and was walloped with this bill that is almost TRIPLE what I have been paying. I can understand a rate hike, but to go from 9.7 cents to 24.6 cents in one month. I pay attention to the costs of Electricity and the median rate is 16.9 cents. Which is about what I expected, but you can't lock in rates in the summer when the bill is high, you'll lose money, so I waited to see what the rates would look like in the winter. I ain't giving DynoSUCK a dime. They can kiss my rosey red exhaust vent.

Definitely call, there have been several instances where power companies make "billing mistakes" that only get corrected when it's brought to their attention.

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity...... |

It might also be an estimated bill, including next months usage, but it sounds like not.
It might also be that that rate is just some punitive bs for letting the contract expire without re upping with them. Like a month to month deal instead of a year. See if you can sign up for a new plan at the same rate as before, or similar.
OR, the exhaust port method works too. Let it go to collections, wait a year, dispute it on your credit report. Odds are dynowho is a dummy Corp that won't have its crap together enough to deal with it.

No it is an honest to goodness bill. No mistakes, just a massive increase in the pKWH rate. Tripiling my bill.
I just looked online for complaints and there are literally HUNDREDS of posts about people fuming over this.
So It is not just me. Oh well, fug'em.
I aint paying them a dime. I dont have any credit so this might actually improve my credit.
TXU didn't require me to pay a deposit when I signed up, so I am feeling good about the switch, but not so good about owning 620 bucks to a bunch of "excrement evacuation ports."

Yup. Give em the ol tyranid juice right in the eye. I've personally gotten out of four such WTF bills. Let it go to collections, send them the note, send all mail they send you back to sender. It's gone in 60 days unless they serve you. And it sounds like they're already busy.

I remember once, I opened an energy bill during the fall, and it said I owed them just a hair over 1k bucks. After a few minutes on the phone, she realized the tech must of punched in the wrong number
But I have had the local company shut off my power during the winter, when my son was only 1ish, and saying they could because it wasnt on record that I had a baby in the house. Which is total BS, and in order for me to get it back on they wanted some huge reconnect fee. Bastards.

The Texas Energy Grid is giving my plant all kinds of hell.
We've taken to just shutting down from 1 PM to 7 PM to avoid an additional 50k-100k per day peak price penalty.
Next year, the plant will not be using such a crappy contract. Fortunately, my home rate is locked, so I don't have to worry about peak pricing.
There are three major electricity "grids" are divided into East, West, and Texas.
The issue in Texas, for those that don't know, is record heat this year coupled with some major power plants going offline due to mechanical and other problems. Deregulation 8 years ago is also contributing.
For home owners (and anyone, really), getting a locked rate instead of a variable one is a must these days. Kind of like a locked interest rate on your home.
Sorry about your situation, Connor McKane. I have no idea what options are available to you. If your contract allows variable or "Peak Pricing", you might be boned. Switching providers was an excellent choice. Make sure you're getting a locked in rate.

I know its different here but that is incredibly high. I just had my electricity bill for the QUARTER in a 2 bed flat with tv or laptop on most of the day, and that came to a mere £90 which I think is around $146.

I don't know if you get the same in the US, but in the UK energy suppliers like to send out estimated bills, normally highly overestimated.
The good news here is that when your meters are rsd once a year or so and you have a measured billing rather than an estimated billing then you can end up with a reduced fourth quarterly bill.
From my experience you have two choices with estimated billing. Phone up with a costomer reading and pay the ammended amount, or pay the bill and buy the units of energy at todays prices rather than tomorrows, which are in all likelihood higher.
Energy suppliers might try to refactor high prices back later, for units already paid for but as far as you are concerned you have already paid for the units of energy and can usually successfully argue same.

You have to sign annual contracts for electricity in Texas???
That's crazy! It's all month-by-month here in Illinois. And, they have to get the state's approval to adjust prices.
Also, what is with this "estimated" bill? Don't they come out and read your meter monthly? (It's all wireless these days, the van drives by and they get all the info they need.)

You sign a contract if you want to get locked into a good rate.
You can do month by month, but generally the rate is higher or "variable". That's when you get boned.

Dude that totally sucks and fight the man. Contact the media, anyone who will listen. Give them a bad rep. Though to be honest, I expect this type of stuff in TX since a lot of TX politicians use the pay to play and love their giant corporations. Energy being ran pretty much by a huge corporation. I think MGE, the energy company where I live is actually owned by a parent company down south, and if I recall, they are also TX based. Maybe AR based, but I think TX.

The bummer with those locked in low rate contracts here in Texas is you do have to be very careful because usually in that contract it states in very fine print what the rate could go up to if you do not lock in to another contract rate. Legally speaking...they may have you by the balls mate.

It's no misread gentlmen and ladies... they raised the rate over 100%
Yeah I use alot of electricity, primarily I like my house to be in the high 60's.
I normally pay 200 to 300 per month in electricity (my apt is a large 3 bedroom with a front wall of windows that faces the pool) I know that is high... but 620? C'mon, screw them I have already swqitched and they can suck on my heat seeking moisture missle if they think they are getting a dime.
Seriously they had one of thier lackeys go onto pissedconsumer.com and claim that they are victims just like the consumers and then go onto blame George Bush.
Holy crap, what a craphole of a company!
See the below post:

I am a enrollment rep for Dynowatt and Accent energy. First thing you need to know is we don't make the energy. Dynowatt and Accent is an ESCO (electric service company) we buy it just like you do. Dynowatt only offered a varible previously because this is how we kept the prices down for our customers. When the price went down for us it in turn went down for you. Fair right. This was true for many years. The energy market in all aspects changes based on many factors, However mainly by the evil hands that control it. Trust me, It is not Dynowatt doing this to you.
Little as you want to believe it, you can blame this on Texas's favorite son. With HIS war effort and hidden goals. He is the figure head for the manipulative elite. Big bussiness, energy tycoons, and banking cartels. Years ago his father said we will be moving torwards a new world order. Now we are starting to see it. The price of gas and energy is just a small part of it. Thier old Grand Daddy had been dealing in the energy bussiness for decades building strong ties to the Rockerfellers, Melons
and the Powers. In fact Rockerfellers' lamp oil monopoly was the first company to every be deregulated. Which was only a scam, power broken over five companies owned by the same man. Prescott Bush was also the first to establish a bussiness relationship with the Bin Laden family, How do you think he beat Exxon in a bid for the off shore oil rig. Look it up smarty pants. You can use the internet to complain, why don't you use it to learn something.
Do you know how many Relient customers called to lock into Dynowatt's fixed rates because the varible rate they were on sky rocketed. How many CP&L, how many Stream and so on. Everyone on a varible rate with any company was affected.
Now many people who switched are calling to come back. "Reliant is charging me fees i never saw with you guys. My taxes alone are twenty dollars more." Welcome back to Dynowatt.
Second: Texas state regulations say that a move in is to be held at priority over a product switch. That is why a new customer can be enrolled in a shorter ammount of time. Any connect fees are charged by the Utility, ie. Centerpoint, Oncor, AEP not by us.
Third: We sent emails to all Dynowatt customers with valid emails letting them know about the increase and and that we are now offering fixed rates. Many of the emails were spammed because the head said Accent energy and not Dynowatt. You can be the judge of where the fualt lies there, but an attempt was made. Now we revamped the paper bills to let our customers know about the fixed rate.
Fourth: The Dynowatt call center has only thirty reps. Fifteen customer service. Ten enrollment reps and five email and IM. The week this blew up we had no idea this was going to happen. The call flow was so huge we can only fit forty people in our back lines. That lets you know how prepaired we were for this.
Fifth: Every Texas electric customer should Be happy for what Accent and Dynowatt has done for them. Twenty Five years ago we pioneered deregulation in Texas. So now instead of one company charging you whatever they want and getting super duper rich. Many companies can compete for your bussiness. This actually keeps prices low and most of all gives you choice. Isn't that what makes the consumer number one. I want you to choose us. Oh, we now offer fixed green energy plans 100% Texas wind baby..!. do your part|.
Lastly|. I appriciate every last one our customers?. I don't think you can understand how hard it was to tell them there is nothing I can do;. Elderly women crying, pissed men cursing my family, mothers asking me how they are going to pay rent and feed thier kids". They certainly don't pay me enough for that|.
