While my grammar is not perfect, and neither is my spelling, I like to think that I do a decent job of both. But since coming to this forum I have noticed so many people who do not understand the concepts of sentences, punctuation, capitalization etc.
I honestly don't understand how some can type like this when 40k involves so much reading. Most of the people I'm talking about don't even seem to be young kids, which would be understandable. They are adults with real lives but they don't know how to use a period.
Am I the only one who has noticed this?

I've noticed it and put up with it mostly if I can understand them. My grammar is by no means perfect, so why should I expect that of everyone.
There are some cases where it gets a little annoying though.

Working in Further Education I am forced to endure it most of the time.
Being told not to mark down on spelling etc, so long as "I can understand what they meant or are getting at". Did not make me happy when I was first told it, but I got used to it as hey, we all make some mistakes.

To be fair, a lot of those same people to which you refer who are engaging in 40k can't get the rules right BECAUSE they can't handle reading either.

I'm pretty big on typing too fast, and messing up my your, you're, were, where, and all that mess.
I've got a friend who never misses a chance to tell me that I'm pronouncing something wrong or saying something wrong. I eventually got pissed off one day and told him that I'm sick of him wasting my time. He knows what I'm trying to say yet he still wants to back step and delay. It has nothing to do with him trying to help me, I very sure it's all about him wanting to be in the you're wrong and I'm right mindset.

Yeah! String up the thickies!
I'm sympathetic to those that do their best but make the ocassional spelling mistake or grammatical blunder. We're none of us innocent of that. There are two things that really bug me though.
1) lack of any punctuation or sentence structure or capitalisation so that the sentence becomes damn near unreadable and then compounding the issue by using lol as a form of punctuation lol
2) People who respond to well-intentioned corrections with hostility; arguing that, as long as they are understood, they should be free to write in whichever manner they please. This, to me, is disrespectful to others on the forum.

Ugh, yeah, I agree wholeheartedly. "Versing" and using an ellipsis instead of a period to separate thoughts really gets to me also. There's a time and a place where that's appropriate, but if you're trying to use it, you're probably doing it wrong.

Ha! That's actually pretty good. Apparently "versing", beyond being obviously the creation of verses, is also some bizarre thing the kids do these days when they pit one 40k army against another. If I had to guess, I'd say it was some semi-illiterate attempt at turning 'versus' into a verb and then conjugating it like it's not Latin. Might be an Americanism.

Pit one 40K army against another? Isn't that just playing the game?
I think I understand what you mean, but I've never heard the term before. I'd always just written it off as the basic nerd impulse to put things in order. A kind of reflex action, like the forum equivalent of Tourettes.

Perhaps. I've even see it used on the forum before, but in person it's more cringe worthy. I think the first time I heard it was something along the lines of, "So I versed my friend's Black Templar with my Orks the other day..."

There is not a problem with 40k players and their grammar.
Do you notice a problem with the grammar of 40k players at your gaming store? I have been to multiple game stores over the years and have never noticed a problem with the grammar of people who frequent a game stores.
Do you notice a problem with the grammar of 40k players at tournaments? I have been to multiple tournaments over the years and have never noticed a problem with the grammar of people who frequent tournaments.
Do you notice a problem with the grammar of people on internet forums? The case is now closed.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

FWIW, I see better grammar on /tg/, which is part of the cesspool of the internet.

I have to confess that some of my posts are littered with errors. I'm either typing from an iPhone or using my work laptop that has the dual advantages of having no spell checker and limits personal web time to 10 minute bits thus necessitating turbo typing.
That said there are far too many grammar nazis both here and IRL.
